My big piece of advice is that the sleep you get on saturday night won't influence how well you run but that Friday night's will. So if possible try to have an early night and of course lay off the beer.
I was going to do this tomorrow but while it is fresh in my head and I have a few spare minutes just thought I’d drop a couple of notes regarding the morning of the race.
The News Shopper, East Kent Gazette and CAFC have all expressed an interest in covering our race efforts in one form or another and as such we thought it would great to get everyone together pre race for a few photos for the media as well as to wish each other good luck, split into running groups if you wish and so forth.
What we propose is that we meet inside the o2 by the Gaucho Grill (on the right hand side). If we could all meet there at 8.45 then we will be able to get some photos done (with a Charlton flag of course) and still have enough time to check in any gear we have and to get into our race positions.
All those that are making their way to The Anchor after the race there of course will be the opportunity for some before and after shots (which could be interesting!).
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped out to make this all come together – I will do a proper write up after the event but just like to say thank you now as well.
If there is anything else then please give me a shout and I’ll help out if I can, I’ve attached the timetable of the morning below if anybody needs it. Good luck with the last minute training!
Cheers

[cite]Posted By: Curb_It[/cite]i gave up after 4 ks today. my leg was hurting. was trying to figure out whether it was in my mind. But thats it no more now until the day.
Defo in your mind, i seemed to analize every step i took yesterday.
Are there race orders? as in F1 :-) am I doing the blocking off to give the faster ones amongst us a clear run, mind you then I'd have to be towards the front, seriously though, are we running together as a team? if not I'll bring some music to try and keep me going.
Okay guys, I won't get a chance before the weekend to wish you all good luck for Sunday. I'll admit to being envious of you all at the moment. I've done a lot of races over the years and the best ones are always the biggest ones IMO so just enjoy the day as much as you can and soak up the atmosphere. Everyone's different of course but I think the advise from Low Ears (I could do a marathon on two hours sleep the night before but you really need to get your head down 48hr's before) and kigelia is pretty sound. My tip is that if you haven't trained with energy drinks, etc before steer well clear of them on the day or you'll be seeing a lot more of the portaloos than you'd like...
Have a great day people, hope the weather's kind and look forward to hearing all about it on here.
god a dodge pain in the my lower shin. Worrying. but mind over matter.
Anyway i've ordered a nice spread of food for the Anchor for 2ish so any friends and family or Charlton Lifers are welcome to come down and share a sausage roll with us.
Indeed, would be great to see a few others for a beer afterwards, so if you are at a loose end, come down and have a pint and a sandwich with us.
I too have had a pain in my shin / calf for about 4 days now. Its not something when i put pressure on, it happens even when i wave the leg in the air (more like a nerve thing). I've also got a cold and a sore chest, but i'm sure it will clear up for Sunday. I'm running it no matter.
Possibly a bit of a cold on the way.
A strange random pain in my leg/foot but I don't get it when I wave it in the air like AFKA
A distinct uncomfortable feeling that I haven't QUITE trained enough.
A sudden nervousness about hills that I might have to run up.
But NEVER MIND I'm just going to enjoy the day, try to run as far and as best I can, have a laugh with whoever I'm running with, and just make sure I don't overdo it and that I can still walk sufficiently to be able to make it to the bar
Having not run since last Saturday, I'm absolutely petrified that I'm going to pick up an injury now. I've even been taking extra special care getting on and off the train so as to not twist an ankle. I just want to wrap myself in cotton wool until Sunday. Unfortunately, I dont think I'll be able to get away without having a few beers tonight as its my brother's 30th birthday drinks but I'm going to make sure I get a good nights sleep tonight and have a bit of a lie in tomorrow morning.
I might just go for a gentle jog tonight/tomorrow morning just to shift the cobwebs again.
I have a groin niggle that has not gone away for several weeks now.
I have had a slight Hamstring niggle for the last fortnight. Other than that feel pretty good have decided to rest up completely since Monday & feel better for it. Roll on Sunday although I have been told it's gonna p*ss down all morning!
Friday lunchtime, and the cod and chips has been replaced by baked haddock and steamed potatoes. I also went home from the pub last night after just two beers, unheard of.
Don't people recognise the sacrifices we have made !!!! :-)

At ten this morning I had a breakfast baggette, 2 sausage, 2 bacon, 2 eggs, mushrooms!!!!!!!!!!
cooked in low fat content oil and a large coffee, fecking gorgous!! but then I knew the the good lady was out bulk buying pasta for the rest of my weekend diet so I had to store some proper food before I got home ;-)
Some of the guy's running sunday might want to look at the "run to the beat" website it looks like there's been a almighty cock up with race numbers in relation to the colour, Red (my colour) is apparently for the lower numbers :ie the speed merchants!!! thats an easy mistake to make ;-) So unless of course Mr Ketman requires "a pacemaker" then I have been advised to move towards the back. Are we slower guys and girls running together or is just me all alone at the back :-(
[cite]Posted By: Curb_It[/cite]and when does your time start - will be it be further down - never done a run before. will we whave to walk the first bit as it will be crowded?
because you have a chip to weare on your shoe you will get two times.
1. official race time - this will be the time from when the gun goes to when you cross the finish line
2. actual time - this will be from when you cross the start line to when you cross the finish line.
with 12,000 runners registered (bank on around 2000 not turning up - that is about the normal churn rate) the liklihood is that at the start it will be a little bit congested especially with the cockups on the start pens. I also imagine it might get a big congested at the left turn just past the leisure centre in woolwich as that looks quite tight and being fairly early in the race (3miles) the runners will still be bunched up in the middle of the pack.
this is quite handy for the road closures. will be able to get a bus/cab back after the race as all the lower road will be back open by the time we are coming out.

Certainly looked like it on saturday in the liberal club, and that was before kick off ;-)
