    [cite]Posted By: Valley_McMoist[/cite]Cheeks - Deptford
Kentish Drovers - OKR (Not strictly a nightclub but open 'til 2am)
Henry Cooper - OKR (As above)
    Dr Jims - Croydon

    To name but a few...

Back in the late 70's and early 80's there was a lot of violence at night clubs. Cheeks was owned by Harry Starbuck and there was a murder there one night so I topped going there after that. Knew the brother of the fella who got murdered coz he used to attend Charlton matches in those days.

Stopped going to the Kentish Drovers when a gang of eight blokes turned up with Baseball bats and proceeded to bash seven shades out of the owner and doormen.

Stopped going to the Henry Cooper when I witnessed the doormen beating seven shades out of this poor fella who accidently knocked into one of them on the way into the place. Not very pleasant. The ironic thing is I knew one of the doormen in question and when he was away from that environment, he was a really nice fella.

I knew those brothers too. They were decent boxers.

Someone who would know told me that the Old Bill knew who did it but there was never a conviction for some reason.

Langtry's in Beckenham, I was a regular there from about 15 to 18! Such a sh!thole but when I look back I'd love it to be open for one last hoorah now!
Venue New Cross like many others
    Walkabout Croydon
    Amadeus

As an aside I think the snow in Venue usually starts in December so i'll be alright on the 1st but you might miss out on Friday Suze as its technically still November! However after midnight they might crack on!

only place i knew like that was up the west end - The telephone exchange.

Anyone ever go to that dodgy bar on the old kent road near to where Toys r us is now?

Used to get in there at 3/4 am and was probably the scariest place on earth with every south london villain drinking in there and normally carrying a gun or a knife!!

[cite]Posted By: Sco[/cite]Laserdrome in Peckham. An edgy mix of danger and excitement - just what you love as a young man.

Brilliant, i didn't think anyone would mention the Laserdrome!

I had some of the best nights of my life in there in the late 90's, before it started getting really scary.

hmmm... the smell of mutton curry wafting across the dance floor..

...and being twatted and trying to negotiate the sloping walkways without slipping over!

    great fun.

Yep didn't change till they shut it down apart from closing the upstairs off for about a year before finally closing it by all accounts. Its a big swanky over 25's called the Bridge Bar now so obviously I haven't seen how it looks (being 21) but the people who have been have said its quite nice.

Love reading this stuff. Reminds me of my own memorable haunts, though obviously no one would know them. Some of the more popular names ring a bell, but The Venue (and the other New Cross establishments, like the Tavern and Inn) is the only one I know, having spent so long at Goldsmiths.

Sarf London nightclubs I can't really comment on other than Zen's and Deja's (Kent surely??) Camden Palace was good for a while though('99-'01)

Amadeus, Casino rooms in Rochester and Strood, The Zone, The Avenue or Bar Rio, Big Hand Moes (now that was a scary place) and Excaliburs gillingham, The Loft, Pikon and Atomics in Maidstone.

Quite possibly the worst place I have ever been and a club it isn't but a pub it really ain't either was on of my first DJ residencies at the Kemsley Arms in Sittingbourne. Some stories to tell about that place I tell thee!!

Speaking of forty's, what about the Thames Barrier Arms (now a vets)?
Used to hold a regular function at the Delta sports ground (Ferrier estate). Used to be called the 999 do apparently. All the emergency services party. Got very friendly with a particular female after convincing her that i was a Fireman. As the night progressed felt it appropriate to tell her that i actually wasn't a Fireman at all. She then told me to F off. I set fire to the tablecloth covering the table we were sat at and wished her good luck in finding one.

    Excellent thread!!!
Loads of places that I'd forgotten about.
How about The Library, upstairs from Zens, Dartford or Jazzmine's in Bromley (more of a late licence pub) before it moved.
