I have 565 points stuck in the middle of phase 4 and 5.
I am stuck in the middle with you!
  • They are charging £45 per adult and £30 per kid to some Midlands clubs fans, who are boycotting because of it.  Their prices against us are better but still a piss take. I hope we charge them the same for The Valley.

They are treating the London clubs the same (if you are asking from our POV). £32 for us is pretty resonable (considering QPR was £39).

The reverse is a New Year's Fixture (the game at the Valley), and our Cat 1 is £30 (but as Coventry are treating this is a cat 2 I reckon we'd do the same).

Will come back to this comment when we play the £42ers (from down the road) at the other end of January!

For how well both clubs are doing this season, they appear to have a decent ground and no doubt it'll be a good away day, I'm really looking forward to this fixture  ... the result however, not so much...

As usual, those of us who go to every single game and have Valley Gold are rewarded with being able to  pick from the worst seats.

Another one where I will be waiting until more tickets are sold...
  • Trains are 56 minutes past the hour to Coventry Arena station, and 50 minutes past the hour on the way back.
I do not know if there are more trains laid on for a matchday but if so it takes away a lot of hassle of using the bus.
I've used that train service for a non-Charlton game. The trains are tiny and they weren't running any extra ones. It was OK on the way there, for which I got the train before the obvious one for the kickoff time and got on a couple of stops before Coventry because I was travelling from Swindon. On the way back it looked like it was going to be impossible so I gave up and walked back to the main Coventry station. There were quite a lot of local buses and if I was starting from London I'd probably get the train to Coventry and then the bus. If they announced in advance that there would be extra trains that might change my mind but I wouldn't want to trust to the service as it was last season.

To add to what I said earlier, if you want the train to Coventry Arena, the route via Nuneaton is the way to go. You'd probably get a seat and definitely get on the train. Trying to join at Coventry, not so much.

I think we'll ask for the extra 800 tickets that seem to be available with other clubs allocations.

My former next door neighbour is a Coventry fan and we'll be meeting before the game. His advice is to take the shuttle bus to the ground from Coventry main station rather than the train, which tends to be ok on the way but the return is jammed.

Me and CAFC mate are staying up there for two nights, and plan to visit the nearby brewery for a small shandy pre-match. And possibly post match.

The trains from Nuneaton go at xx:37 and leave Arena at xx:04. The 17:04 after the game might just be doable if you get onto the platform quickly, as the away end is fairly near the station, but crowd control measure make may make this unlikely.

Leaving the Stadium Please note that after the game, crowd control measures will be in place to segregate home and away supporters. This means that away fans will be unable to turn left outside of the away end and go through the barriers towards the Arena Shopping Park. You will be advised to exit across Car Park B, where the away supporter coaches are, and then left at the exit gate to be able to access the shopping park and train station.

I’m sure that the club sells the tickets in the order it is asked to do so by the opposition, but I think in his case the caution is unnecessary. Coventry won’t care about that, however.

Yes, the decision to sell them block by block is made by the home teams.

The logical reasons for this being that:

    1. If we don't sell enough tickets, they could potentially sell the block to home fans.
    2. If we only sell tickets in the central block, there's a bigger gap between us and the home fans, meaning they can spend less on stewards and block off the seats, placing opposing sets of fans further away from each other.

However, I've seen several situations this season where neither of the above could apply, but the seats were still sold to us block by block.

A lot of people are still sitting wherever they want anyway, which is absolutely fine as the seat selection system is largely pointless. But this does cause issues in stadiums such as Pride Park and The Racecourse Ground, where you don't have as much freedom to sit where you want as there are separate entrances for different parts of the away end and you can't walk between them once inside. Every game where this has been the case has seen our loudest fans split into different areas and we've obviously been much quieter as a result. Perhaps this could be seen as a third reason for the clubs to do it?

On people sitting where they like, regardless of fans now being able to 'choose' their seat, the only issues I'm seeing is when people choose to turn up two minutes before kick-off, find the area they wanted to stand in is completely full (even though there is plenty of space in the area where their actual seat is), so decide to stand on the stairs and spend half the game arguing with the stewards. It's the same people doing this every game. Either get to the ground earlier, or accept that you aren't going to get your pick of the seats if you turn up at the last minute.

The worst instance of the above was last season when a group of around 20 people turned up 3-4 minutes before kick-off at Huddersfield and began kicking off when there weren't enough empty seats anywhere for them to all stand together, asking those of us around them to relocate so they could all be together. For clarity, they did not have tickets for those seats, or even together anywhere else. I have no idea what they were expecting to happen when they arrived so late.

We were in Coleshill recently and used uber...very reasonable not sure how they work in Coventry but maybe of use for getting from Coventry town center to the ground....or enjoy the hour and half walk.

It’s still better than last year where you would have been  assigned a seat at random from the same selection of blocks. At least you know what you’re getting now

  • I presume this means block 8 has not been put on sale yet ? Also, block 6 is not accessible. Only block 7 looks available at present.

The other related issue is groups of people arriving and just going where they like, so that when other people arrive afterwards they can't then use the seats they've chosen.

If you're going to allow people to choose their seats, then it seems pointless unless it's enforced. It creates more problems than just letting people sit where they like.

If you let people sit where they like, then you can enforce it so that in the first 4 rows say, you HAVE to sit. If you want to stand go elsewhere.

That's correct. Blocks 6&7 are the safe standing blocks, while block 8 is seats (not that we'll actually be sitting there).

I don't know if we'll be selling block 6 or block 8 next (or if they'll both be done together). But, either way, it's block 7 only until the Valley Gold day trippers can buy their tickets at 14:00 today.

    Edit:

The ticket office will be selling block 6 next, so anybody wanting block 8 will need to wait until enough fans have bought tickets in blocks 6 and 7.
