Some of the comments from the end of the match thread are brilliant. It really wasn’t dogshit or horrendous.

We lost 3-1 in the championship. The 3rd goal was as we pushed in the final stages - always a risk.

we clearly need some attention focussed on attacking threat but if Leaburn hits that under the bar in the first half it’s a different game.

We’ll lose a lot more this season, but we’ll win some as well.

Some balance and perspective will definitely help some cope with a Saturday afternoons football.
We need to win at least 13 plus some draws to stay up. Where from.
That's just over half our home games that we need to win then, seeing we've already got a win at home as well - Reckon that's "manageable" given how strong we are at the Valley.

Start with 2 proper, out and out strikers in the next game.

I want TC to do well but he just isnt doing it. Yes he set up the Apter goal but until then he done nothing. A darting run without end product is worth sod all.
Against Millwall I would drop Carey and put Apter in his position. Drop Campbell and play Kelman alongside Leaburn. Play Ramsay as a right wing back and put Burke in the right side of a back three. Millwall are a big and aggressive team. Playing Burke will give us more of a physical presence.
So go back to the setup we had at the start of the L1 season with no effective width where we couldn't create anything at all and remove the tactical changes that took us to promotion. Cool.

We look toothless upfront, Leaburn needs support up there and I don’t get why Jones took off Carey before Docherty.

Knibbs needs a start now, these little cameos aren’t doing anything - I have my doubts about Kelman but the same goes for him, play 2 up top and when Godden comes back, we’ve got competition for places.
Really like Apter, Campbell is inconsistent but did well today

I hope our season isn’t a case of played well but lost by the odd goal each week.
Neither TC nor Apter are RWBs. Neither have the defensive nous. Apter was the wrong side of Smyth when he scored and TC has never looked comfortable in that position which is why NJ moved him up front. We need the equivalent of Edwards on the right.
However, unless NJ works out how our front 3 can score goals we will really struggle even if we become more solid in defence
Not blaming Apter at all for their 1st goal. His job is further up field......as shown by his goal. I said when we signed Apter that I hoped we werent going to expect him to defend.

Just watched the 1st half of the Millwall game if we don’t step up they will tear through us like a knife through butter. Fortunately they don’t seem to be able to score from the build up play they create

Don't worry mate, we always up our game against the spanners.
    When was that
  • A disappointing afternoon, we didn't play our best and yet could have won. At 1-1, TC should have gone down for a penalty and we would have likely won it.  At 1-1 TC should have played a simple ball to Leaburn but went down instead and they scored.  It wasn't all TCs fault but they were big points in the game.
Onwards we go, remember, staying up this season will be a good result then build again next summer.
  • Shite for first 20, fairly even after that, couldn't take what chances we had. That added to some bad individual displays and it's a 3-1 loss.

Crying out for some proper wingback depth, Jones needs to work the subs and player combinations/ partnerships.

Great opportunity to get a win and 3 points before the break went begging.
  • NJ if you are doing long throws put a player in front of first defender !

  • Very fair analysis from NJ I feel. Different from some of the sarcastic predictions that were made at full time. Touches on the ref but acknowledges that it was our worst performance of the season so far. Praises QPR for changing their style of play and going more physical compared to the way they’ve played previous

Also refs association (or whoever) apologising for missing the foul in the buildup to the Leicester goal. Clearly has no effect now but many of us called that last week. We have to take our chances or will be rueing more crap ref decisions costing us games.

Agree, I think he’s spot on in his analysis of this one.
  • Starting XI needs a shake up

we've become a bit too predictable especially the long throws and corner routine to the back post

Not looking forward to the Millwall game on that showing

Spot on Golfie, it's not a balance at the moment, Edwards was covering Bell at every opportunity, that wasn't the same for Ramsay and I think that's why he struggled in the first twenty minutes. I get the worries about losing Lloyd Jones but that right wing back situation needs sorting, even if we return Ramsay to that position and play Reece Burke in the back three.

They aren't looking too great themselves right now tbh

  • I saw mothing in the game to encourage me. Their players were more skillful than ours. We hardly ever won a break down ball, we rarely were able to win a ball off any of their players, are passing even short let alone long was woeful. The headers were uncontrolled so just as likely to end up with a QPR player, they did better at that than us.
We had a lot of possession but how much was in our third of the pitch.
  • I have to say it now — it would be absolute stupidity not to bring in a couple of Premier League loans. My niggling doubts have turned into real alarm bells about our survival chances, because I just don’t think we’ve got enough going forward. I don’t know exactly who we could bring in, but there must be players out there who’d give us an edge in these types of games. Ignoring the loan market would be a massive mistake.

    2-0 down now

I see resting the team for Cambridge was a good plan then. 😉

Is the strategy just to make the Millwall game a must win perhaps?

In my view TC was a substitution we should have made - no idea why he didn’t switch wings more.

    Kaminski continues to under whelm.

What happened at the Den to give them 20 minutes added time (with only 7 indicated)? Looks like the Wrexham keeper got subbed very late

JRS loan would be a big lift…that player who can do something special
This. We need to push the boat out to add sime attacking threat
Carlton Morris & Keiffer Moore were both available in the summer. Both experienced strikers. Both scored again today & have 3 (?) each for the season si far.We went for youth & inexperience instead.
  • Not too down, early days. I do think Jones needs to try some different combinations to find the right set up. Would like Knibbs and Olafe starting, I worry we really don’t play to Kelmans strengths, we played a lot of long balls today. The game changed when they brought Saito on, he had that real bit of quality they needed. I’m not sure we have anyone that can do that in our squad. Not a criticism but not sure Jones generally goes for those types of players.

What formation are you going to play if you start with 2 proper out & out strikers......because NJ isn't suddenly going to go 442.

3-5-2, like what we're playing now, just one of those Strikers wont be drifting wide.
