*** Harvey Knibbs signs - 4 year deal ***

Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Harvey Knibbs from Reading for an undisclosed fee.
The 26-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal with the Addicks following an outstanding two-year spell with the Royals, where he scored 32 goals and provided 12 assists.
He becomes the club’s ninth signing of a busy summer following the arrivals of Sonny Carey, Thomas Kaminski, Tanto Olaofe, Amari’i Bell, Reece Burke, Joe Rankin-Costello, Rob Apter and Charlie Kelman.
After completing his move, Knibbs said: “I’m pleased to be here and glad it’s all done. The gaffer convinced me straight away - you can tell how passionate he is about what he’s doing, the team and the plans that he’s got for me. I’m excited to test myself at Championship level and I can’t wait for the season to start now.”
Manager Nathan Jones added: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to get the signing of Harvey over the line. We wanted to add goals to us over the summer and Harvey is a key player we earmarked a long time ago. He’s a goalscoring midfielder who is a consistent performer. He has good pedigree, he’s athletic, he scores goals and he’s young enough that he will continue to improve.”
The Bristol-born midfielder began his professional career at Aston Villa, where he signed his first contract in the summer of 2017.
Knibbs completed a permanent move to Cambridge United ahead of the 2019/20 campaign and finished his debut term with the U’s as their top scorer, before earning promotion to Sky Bet League One during the following season.
Having starred for Cambridge, he joined Reading in July 2023 and went on to feature 100 times for the Berkshire side, finished as the club’s top scorer in both seasons.

Reading FC First Team Manager, Noel Hunt, said:
“Harvey has been a joy to work with — a player who gives you everything, every day. His versatility across the front positions has been a real asset to us, whether he’s playing out wide or in midfield. He’s scored important goals, created chances, and always put the team first. More than that, he’s a great character around the dressing room and a fantastic professional.
We didn’t want to see him leave, but after speaking to Harvey on a number of occasions, he made his ambitions clear. He’s earned this move, and we wish him nothing but success at Charlton.”
We thank Harvey for his commitment and contribution over the past two seasons and wish him every success as he takes the next step in his career with Charlton Athletic.
Good luck, Knibbsy!

Total speculation on my part, but my guess would be Reading tried to up the price last minute (perhaps in light of the rumoured fee for Kelman - which would fit with NJ's don't believe all you read" comment the other night), we called their bluff and said "N'ah thanks! Fuck it then, if that's your game" and Reading backed down and we either settled back on the original deal or a smaller increase.
He sounds like a good player who fits the NJ mould. Welcome Harvey, may the Valley be a fruitful Garden for you.5 -

They then realised they'd end up with a f**ked off Knibbs for the rest of the season and no pay day at all.3 -

Great signing! Also, why I tend to keep quiet on this forum and get the bucket of popcorn out for!0

He is the perfect Jones player5

So glad we’re signing young up and coming players, gonna be an exciting season. Much prefer these type of players than Connor Coady type signings.5

Well that's a relief, I was really hoping we'd get this one done. As far as I can see it just looks like Reading have slightly made dicks of themselves claiming the deal was off etc. I guess they're not used to actually being able to reject actual cash bids and they've gone a bit mad, it happens. A goalscoring midfielder who can press like a demon, what more can you ask in a Nathan Jones side?7

Great signing.Getting more and more excited everyday. Can’t wait for Watford game.0

Can't wait for his knee to explode 5 minutes into the Watford game and we never see him again
(Well someone had to be first)16 -
Could Knibbs turn out to be the best signing of the nine so far? I wouldn't be surprised!2

At last. Work near reading and fans views today were, great player when things going well but hides when it isn't. Will give it all but can show boat. Will create goals and works hard for the team.
Waste of money glad he's gone and another said 1.8 milion we will take it.
Over to you Harvey prove yourself and welcome.4
