Obviously have to take a lot of what he says with a pinch of salt but if that £450k figure is correct it's very impressive as Ramsay, Gillesphey and Godden all commanded a fee. I don't believe that's all down to Scott as Methven is suggesting but it's certainly shrewd business from the club
Ramsay was 100k, Godden 200k so Gilly around 150k I presume.

Saw someone say Godden 250k which would make Gillesphey 100k which seems more likely. Those two have limited resale value I think but Ramsay for 100k is phenomenal really as he could easily go for 7 figures now

Massively... Ramsay and Coventry have got to be worth about 10 times that now between them alone

What about what we paid for Ahadme though?

Point being you can’t cherry pick. It’s got to be the whole you assess and also know to what extent he alone identified them.

Plus the load of absolute shite he also signed, so bad I can't even remember the names, apart from Matt Penney, Alan Campbell & Dan Potts.

You mean the same Potts and Campbell that very obviously came from the link-up to Nathan Jones?

If he's going to include obvious link ups Ramsay and Small then yes.

There's always a danger with transfers of crediting the person you like for the good ones, and blaming the bogey man (Scott, Driesen) for the bad ones...

Remind me what the "obvious link" is between Jones and Ramsay?

Ramsey and small were both at Southampton when he was there I think

Jones knew of Ramsay through his Southampton connections.
3 days prior to Jones being appointed manager, Ramsay signed.
    Small signed 2 days prior.
It was suggested that Jones had already been appointed, but not announced.

Ramsay left Southampton in August, a full 3 months before Jones was appointed at Southampton, a role that he barely held for 3 months, a tenuous link at best, and one where I doubt Ramsay's name came up once whilst he was there.

And again you can't cherry pick the best for one person and the worst for the other it's not how it works

It was Methven cherry picking, I agree he shouldn't have.

If you think Ramsay (and a day later Small) signing, when it was common knowledge that Jones was about to be appointed, was a coincidence then that's fine with me.

They thought Holden was coming back for his 5 games he needed

Very selective rewriting of history there. For Sunderland and us. I see Charlie as a professional handbrake. If Scott and Methven were so successful then they wouldn’t have been asked to leave.

At no point have I mentioned Small, you are using him to somehow prove that Ramsay was also all Jones. Scott and the club even said we had Ramsay watched beforehand. Ramsay and Jones didn't cross paths before he signed in January, though most people would have you believe they had.

Well we got promoted so I don my cap to Charlie. He wasn't as bad as the Sunderland TV character it seems so do wonder if that was for TV. If the 450K figure is true then that was good business.

There was no ‘is he good or bad’ dynamic to Charlie in Sunderland Til I Die. He was just a bit of a prat, as most in that industry are. And he proved to be a bit of a prat here too.

If I was Andy Scott and I had taken that amount of flak from Charlton fans I would've stated in mitigation that I was behind Ramsey, Small, Coventry, Gillesphey, Docherty and Godden.
That's why its hard not to be skeptical reading the words of Charlie Methven.

We all read the words verbatim of Scott's praise for Appleton at his interview so it will always be difficult for him to erase those words from our memory !

Scott's remit at Forest was to bring in a whole new squad despite the promotion to the Premier.
The very good, some bad and some ugly followed !

I always thought this said more about when we appointed Jones tbh.  Ramsay signed on deadline day (when the vast majority of all transfers seem to be completed), and Small the day afterwards, when his contract with Southampton was terminated (presumably because they couldn't find anyone willing to stump up a fee).

As others have said, the connection between Jones and Small was pretty tenuous, and with Ramsay it was non-existent.  Jones was even asked about it directly at the time and said something like "I was aware it was happening, and could've stopped it if I wanted to", which given how much responsibility he took for the Potts, Hylton, Berry, LuaLua deals, suggests he wasn't that involved.

Zero coincidence that recruitment drastically improved as soon as Jones came in. Let’s not rewrite history, Scott was awful.

Telling surely neither (to my knowledge) Scott or CM were at Wembley or mentioned in dispatches if their roles were so valuable.

This is Methven’s modus operandi. It’s why he is such a weak leader.

You have to love our fans.  Our bad signings were all Scott and our best Jones.  It is clearly not that linear.  Both Jones and Scott had a hand in both our good and bad signings.  In the end Scott wasn’t the right fit for the club but the need for our fans to demonize everyone who doesn’t work out (both management and players) is really bizarre

Why would they be at Wembley, neither of them work for the club anymore.

I don't turn up to my past company's Christmas party just because I worked for them previously.

    That's what I'm seeing too.

Credit should go where it's due, and whilst I don't know for sure where that is, it strikes me as highly unlikely his record was 100% failure for signings.

We changed our recruitment policy, which wasn't working well, and I don't doubt he was a week link in it, hence his removal, but  those trying to discredit him for any good signings are the ones attempting to rewrite history imo.
