Has anyone seen Andy Scott this season? - Gone (p2)

Fill your boots if you must but I am reluctant to simply scapegoat anyone. People rarely if ever operate in isolation from those around them. The responsibility for Scott’s performance sits with the entire SMT.
The January 2023 transfer dalliance hardly spoke of anyone being authorised to operate with a functioning budget. Kane, Hector, Penny, Kilkenny and Bonne almost read as Sandgaard’s revenge for seeing his lad sidelined.
To then return to the fray just weeks before the end of the Summer Transfer window to trade for what was still available would have been a notable challenge. Until the SE7 paperwork was signed he had no authority to speak to anyone on behalf of the club.
So he came with a title and likely a pay cheque to match to position his role as rebuilding a functioning football operation (after years of chaos/ neglect) based on incremental change. As a middle manager “just doing things better” has merit but it is very hard to move the results dial in the short term with such a limited remit.
I cannot speak to his personal skills but the Dobson issue was poorly managed. Yet do really think the contract budgets sat solely within his authority? Methven’s Teflon nature and Rodwell cellophane traits maybe position the SMT culture better than anything else.
Based on the football philosophy evidenced the appointment of Jones could hardly have been more challenging. The Dobson retention certainly confused the pecking order to expose 2 men largely working from 2 very different scripts.
Maybe Carter lanced “the boil” but Rodwell’s realignment of duties in June was surely the writing on the wall. Registering as a demotion for both today acknowledged a repositioning of duties for the Summer of 2025. If we are genuinely to continue with recipe of just 14 senior names then 3 cooks in the kitchen is palpably a luxury too far.17 -
He got fired from Notts Forest
He got fired from Charlton
Both sides are doing better / will do better without him

We have quite a few on CL who are ITK so what's the answer ?
We know Scott was behind some duds and Michael Appleton was one of his worse decisions.
If I remember correctly, I think Lloyd Jones signed before the takeover, so would have been Holden’s signing
Coventry is pretty much the only Andy Scott success story in terms of recruitment. Outside of that, bringing in Will Abbott another of his few successes
Jones became Southampton manager in November 2022.2 -

But he selected all our targets, someone on here told me so.........a lot.0

Bye!!!

Such a weird awkward character the few times i saw him up close
the dobson saga was the final nail in the coffin for me really glad he is gone and hopefully going in a better direction !2 -
Loaded us with dross. Should never have been appointed after his stint at Forest. More to go, but this is a good start.5

No surprise to see him go. Too many players brought in who've underperformed during his time with us, but I don't hold him solely responsible for that as the coaching of them wasn't down to him. How he spent the player budget did prove his ultimate downfall though IMO.

Replace Rodwell now and appoint a proper , well respected Director of Football / whatever you want to call it - someone Jones has faith in - the Gallen to his Bowyer , if you will . There must be some good people out there .2

I’m interested by some of the comments suggesting there will be more to follow Scott. Who and why ?1

The owners have been happy to invest in Jones and Dr Will Abbott who won't have come cheap - time to go and get a DoF/Technical Director of a similar calibre.1 -

But We'd also do well to remember he single handedly cast Holden upon us.
A bizarre choice who's obvious lack of experience shone through once the nice bloke, new manager bounce wore off.8 -
I'm disappointed that he never did come out hold his hands up. But I suppose he's done the next best thing.

Being responsible for Dobson going as well.

It is interesting that on the one hand fans were told that people don’t tend to have expertise on both the business side and football side, yet at the same time he moved from one to the other at Charlton.
Despite his playing background, Rodwell’s experience is on the business side. The reasons he was shuffled across were about presentation and accountability, I believe.
As for why there might be more change, the club is/will be a long way short of the claims made about the business, despite some benefits from actually having management. These will tell in the end.

If Curbs was made Director of Football, I'd be soaring through the clouds3

A year too late but finally gone. Part of the problem why we had one of our worst seasons in the club’s history.4

Maybe he can go and cut off a potential signing at a service station in Essex before they make their way up to Ipswich.2 -

You'd not think so given his 'goodbye' to us.
