Edge of the playoffs and not pushing the boat out for some real difference makers feels like a missed opportunity. The Sunderland lad that didn't get completed stats wise just looks like another Dixon so was clearly a last minute flyer on who could be available.
Would have liked cover for Coventry and a winger/forward because I'm worried that style wise if we lost Cov or TC for any amount of time the current style of play wouldn't work as well.
I could understand when we first shipped him as I was under the impression we would replace him. Now we haven't it leaves a massive question mark. We have no natural successor for Docherty or Coventry if they can't play.
Terry Taylor could play a role and showed he had something to offer with his minimal opportunities.
I look forward to reading their bullshit summary on how it all went down. I don't believe for one second Nathan Jones is happy with this transfer window. Comes across like a case of not biting the hand that feeds.15 -
I don’t really have a strong opinion on what’s happened this window.
Im happy that we didn’t lose Small, Jones or Leaburn, and we addressed the ‘number 10’ and LCB positions - but am slightly worried about the depth and what a couple of injuries might do.
I really really really don’t see the point in having a strong view on the two players who have come in. Plenty of times we as a fan base have either overestimated or underestimated a player.
The major theme on this forum is that we are not a ‘play off squad’ - and this may ultimately prove to be correct - but at the moment at the end of our next two home games, over half way through the season I wouldn’t be shocked to find us tucked in the Top 6.
For me I’ve started to enjoy watching Charlton a lot more since I’ve stop engaging so much with everything online and just tried to ‘take each game at a time’.20 -
Frustrating to see we missed out on a wide player. The squad feels too light, but I get why they’ve got rid of squad players when the chance came up. Big pressure on u21s who need to step up if we suffer from injuries.
So was anyone potentially decent released as Small was this time last year?5 -
We were told before the window 1or 2 coming in and more out to trim the squad. It’s exactly what happened. Regarding quality, we just don’t know so judging that will have to wait until we have something tangible to go off.
What we do know and is out there, the two new boys are versatile positionally. Gilbert is a 10 who can sit if needed or play LW. McIntyre is a LCB who can play in DM.Maybe NJ knows what he’s doing…Stevenage, Barnsley, Orient & Stockport within the next 7 games…your questions will answered come 5pm March 8th.3 -

I was fine with TT going and playing regularly at Northampton because I wrongly assumed that , yeah TT goes and gets games and we'll bring someone else in that is maybe a better fit for what NJ wants. Instead we're left with a concern that when Coventry inevitably gets suspended or gets a knock that whole midfield shape just won't work.
Madness to assume that him and Doc are going to get through the rest of the season unscathed.2 -
332 posts since 11pm last night..🤔
think I’ll just check out the OS…3 -
Why trim the squad when you’re going for promotion?
Makes sense to keep Taylor and Reg at least, particularly if you’re not going to spend any money on new recruits.

Wasn't expecting many in other than Gilbert and we didn't. REG out was a surprise but replaced with a left sided version of him, we'll see what they're like, not expecting either to walk straight into the side. We've got a lot of versatile players so Jones can keep all the same faces around and in the side at least.
Edit: The Taylor loan seems dumber and dumber, but, Jones either likes you or not and thats it.
Edit Edit: Shame we didnt/ couldnt get Torvide in, sounded like one of those Peterborough type signings (as well as cover/ alt for a position we needed...)0 -
I thought that we were losing Small and Leaburn so I'm not that unhappy. Playoffs would be a massive bonus, but not expected.1

Well, we have got in a player with decent pedigree on loan from Middlesbrough but hasn’t played much football and failed to bring in any other attacking player. We lack pace with TC and Small and that was so clear to see.
They’ll say about streamlining the squad etc but we lack quality in depth. An injury to the wrong player and we risk our season being derailed.
They’ve let us down in my opinion. They had all month to sign someone for that. They failed to do so.10 -

Very average window, could have done more, but ok I suppose, strange getting shot of both Reg and Zach…🤦0

I think this window gives us more of an insight into what is going on. Charlie has obviously sold to the owners a budget that will get us promoted and it doesn't look like it's going to change IMO. Fingers crossed it works...4 - Sponsored links:

Couple of league one clubs with strong deadline day signings;
Stockport - Cosgrove & Moxon
Wigan - Dale & Darcy
Would have been very happy with any of those signings.
its going to be a difficult rest of the season….when our board refuse to spend money & are hoping to do it on the cheap.13 -
I'm sure someone far cleverer than me will be able to explain this , but wasn't this the last window clubs could seriously spend before the new SCMP rules come in next season that affects how much clubs can spend even more???? I know Charlie was very much a proponent of them but I can't remember what the exact changes were?0

No matter which way you cut it, we haven't added pace or attacking threat, something that's been missing since the first game of the season. We continue to be solely reliant on TC and Small.

The days of getting excited over a transfer window are long gone for me, if they ever existed at all. We were pretty much told what was going on and that pretty much happened, not a lot. We are a league1side with aspirations of the play offs and as such sign the players we do so we can tread water in mid-table mediocrity for another year.

Has @DubaiCAFC got that bucket on his head this morning?7
