Can they just let us know who they're trying to sign now please?
I dont care if it doesnt go ahead or not... I mean it doesnt matter if its not a secret, as no other club can sneak in and sign him
I honestly doubt we have much competition for the players we are in for.
Unless their recruitment team also have a fetish for crocked and bit part players.
Let's face it, we can't compete with championship clubs or top end league one clubs for money or status. With league one we are probably top 6 on choice. Let's face it, we cleared out some of our unwanted players, and we signed 2 unwanted players for a couple of months.
January window has been more about not selling our jewels. Is that showing ambition?
Mate, we have a top4 budget by their own admission. We have also been told of their wealth and their ambition to get this club promoted.
I don't believe hanging on to players is ambitious, as they're under contract. Signing Lloyd Jones was a massive positive, fair play. But respectfully, as a Charlton fan, I have much higher hopes than us competing with Wycombe for the signature of a player already on our books.
I don't care about any players that left, they're all pants (excluding Terry Taylor), fair play for managing to get rid. That still doesn't change the fact those are all signings sanctioned by the same board.
Let's see who this last player is anyway, could change the field.
They do have money
They wouldn't be losing £9m a year if they didn't have money.
Difference between us and other clubs like Wycombe for example is Wycombe don't have an academy, so they can spend a bit extra on players because they don't have to worry about running an academy.
Birmingham and Wrexham are completely different because they are anomalies in League 1, never again will you get a team spending the money they are spending on wages/fees in league 1.
We also need to remember we have spent 8 of the last 10 years in league 1 so that affects how the outside world sees us, yes we have a big stadium, former premier League team, but in reality we are a league 1 team operating on a league 1 budget
Personally I'm glad the owners are not being stupid and throwing money at it because it's not necessarily guaranteed to get you promoted, if they go steady enough and we get top 10 this year that's an achievement on last year then we can aim for promotion next year when Birmingham and likely Wrexham or Huddersfield will be gone, if we happen to get play offs this season that's a massive added bonus
I'm not as slit my wrists as usual as the two coming in do appear to be better than what we've got rid of but neither shout immediate game changers to our season.

Not suggesting that it shows ambition, merely posing the question. When the window opened, many were concerned that we would weaken the team by letting one of the 'stars' go. That was a big fear and hasn't happened. That is a small win.
As for ambition, I don't see it. We are arguably the second biggest club in League One behind Brum. The money men had the opportunity to spend before the big caps come in next year and didn't. A clear message that the losses are either being capped at £8m or reduced.
Ok my bad, well I guess I answered it for myself then. It's a positive I'll say that much, but it was the bare minimum for me.
I think they're hoping all the big spenders leave and next season the restrictions will give us an advantage, or, they're hoping we do it this year which would be mission accomplished. Would be fortunate but I wouldn't complain.
No doubt we’ll hear in the morning how lucky we are to hang onto so a number of the squad. So disappointing and as much as I hope Gilbert and McIntyre are great, this feels like a massive book balancing exercise, with 6 players fewer in the squad and two hopeful punts, rather than the clear quality additions that were being touted.
The verbal gymnastics in the statement from the club about NJ being ecstatic with the window will be a fun read tomorrow.
Appreciate the reasons for wanting to trim the squad down and all the outs are either positive or irrelevant. But surely with a genuine promotion push on the cards and more glaring gaps in the squad, we could have brought in at least one more player having shipped out 8?
I doubt there was any money available which reduces our options but I do think Jones genuinely rates this squad as being good enough. Praying the two new signings can prove to be top League One players rather than more of the usual January squad filler dross.
It’s been a decent window unblocking the squad with players that simply were not playing for the team and bringing in players that will be playing … also gives one or two young players a chance to move forward
Too many of the young players aren't good enough for a promotion push. And I doubt whether Gilbert is going to be a consistent starter. If McIntyre is any good then he should oust Gillesphey but I dont see the changes happening from day 1.
I'll be seriously fucked off of NJ or Scott come out with the age old lines, "We really tried to do the business, but couldn't quite get the deals over the line!"
I actually believe that our dealings have gone exactly as planned. If so, is NJ happy and simply doing his job as instructed?
Who’s excited to read Andy Scott’s transfer summary in the morning about how we streamlined the squad, boosted a promotional rivals squad depth and failed to bring in a much needed winger
I can see why 'Boro were happy to let Gilbert leave......the signed Iheanacho.
Now he's someone that I have always expected more from. He's 28 now and has only started 95 career league games with another 135 appearances as sub and just 47 goals. He had one really good season back in 2020/21 but in the four years since then, including a season in the Championship, he has managed just 14 league goals.
That's piss poor then, the cover we desperately needed for Small/Campbell wasn't brought in
Watson/Dixon
Just trying to imagine that.
Small’s spent 70 minutes running up and down the right wing, taking on players using his pace, strength and tricks.
Then when we need a goal we sub him off to let Watson have a go at doing the same.
More likely to bring on Mitchell and move Ramsay to RWB. (He's not hugely attacking, but probably more of a threat than Watson)
Watson isn't bad as an attacking full back, I seem to remember a few decent runs with the ball last season. Ramsay is much better defensively though, so they could be a reasonable combination.
Small clearly is much more of an attacking threat than either of course.

we are always the most boring club for transfer deadline day but the lack of ambition this window is crazy
if we dont at least make the playoffs this ownership/SMT need to go !!!!
I'm confused
Unbeaten in 4 games and level points with 6th place.
Think saying our season is over is a bit OTT because we didn't sign someone
I've got you a Lynx Africa set and a tub of celebrations for the occasion

Interesting that one of the two we brought in was a defender, as that wasn't a position that was mentioned as one we'd be looking to strengthen in.
