Anything other than promotion is a failure for Charlton in League One, but throughout our terrible run I've been of the opinion that if we could see clear building blocks and an attempt to play in a certain way, it would be a lot easier to accept a disappointing league position. There have been signs of that over the last 4 games and if we maintain this style of play for the rest of the season I think most people would be confident of our chances next year. I do think we've left ourselves a bit too much to do this season though.1

I didn’t want Jones sacked mainly because we can’t continue to sack managers every six months. What does concern me though is there seems to be an opinion that it took Jones a while for his methods to click. That’s demonstrably not true. His tactics for the first half of the season haven’t “clicked”. They’ve been abandoned for something completely different. Was that a realisation by him and concern about losing his job or was he told in no uncertain terms to change ? Either way I’m not particularly interested in praising Jones too much for this turn around. He’s been dragged kicking and screaming to it. Jury still out for me.16

Only have to go back to the first few months of the season to find posts about the style of play not being right for this squad. While he was reluctant to change the style, he does deserve credit for doing so. Many managers we’ve had refused to. Just a shame we weren’t playing this way in preseason and signed a couple more players for TC and Small’s roles.4 -
How much have injuries affected the decisions Jones has had to make?It seems to me the addition of just a couple of players to the squad have had a very positive effect.0

I would say the big changes have been the return of Jones and playing TC and Small in wide positions. Both possess power and pace. Teams before this change found it too easy to defend against us and the template of always having bodies behind the ball and breaking invariably worked. It isn't so easy now. I agree he was 'cruising to unemployment', and took it as read that Gavin Carter had something to do with the uptick in form. Anyway at the time, only a few weeks ago, someone seems to have had a word with someone and suddenly we are playing with width and have become easier to watch (enjoyable even, lately!). I think Jones is sulking still about this. He has not partaken in aftermatch applause of fans like he did before.ShootersHillGuru said:

Some supposition there i grant you, but since no-one else has said it so far (as far i could see) i wanted to mention the Gavin Carter effect. It's just possible that that man gets you anything you wish for (within his orbit of influence- e.g not a pay-rise or a new spouse).0 -

Wrexham, Birmingham, Bolton, Reading, Huddersfield could all equally say they are as big if not bigger than us as a club. Ultimately you finish where you belong.4 -

But I look at it this way.
I believe our natural position in the football league would be mid table in the championship.
So the 4 seasons in the top tier under Lawrence and the 8 seasons under Curbs we were definitely punching above our weight.
But every season we are playing in the 3rd division we are underachieving.
This past 10 or 15 seasons we have sustained our longest period in the 3rd division including our lowest league position for 98 years.
So I think it's understandable that fans get frustrated with the way the club is being run and show their frustration on here.17 -

Tricky one, a few weeks ago I'd have loved Luton to come in for him, now, I'm not sure.
Is Jones fortunate that Lloyd Jones and Miles have shown form, and any manager would be getting these results, or, has he changed us tactically.
I think it's somewhere in between, I think he's massively benefited from having our good players available, just like a lot of old Charlton managers would have been.
I am still very confident a different manager wouldn't have overseen so many disappointing performances we witnessed in the last 2-3 months, but it's hard to deny the last 5 or so games have been very decent performances to watch.7
