January Transfer Window (rumours + actuals)

  • Keeping hold of Jones and Leaburn depends on their contractual arrangements surely. They might have buy out clauses, a big club interest clause, failure to make the play offs clause and so on.
All I am reading again like every window what players we are going to sell and every window these players are still with us at the end... and the same will happen this year Jones and Leaburn will be playing for us in February.……. Leaburn up to a vastly better performance v Wycombe has been pretty average to poor on his return, and Jones may be outstanding for us this season but he is injury prone and last season fans were saying not good enough and should have gone in the summer... so they will be going anywhere

    Make your mind up Ronnie.

NJ seemed to imply in the SLP yesterday that right back was the only priority as Ramsay and Watson are injured.

    https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/sport/nathan-jones-intent-on-streamlining-charlton-athletic-squad-in-january-transfer-window/

"Charlton have had their right-sided options depleted with Ramsay and Tennai Watson both injured.

“It is one position that we have had injuries in, the one position we haven’t had cover in and the one position we have been compromised in,” said Jones. “It’s glaringly obvious."

That’s why I think we’ll get the rb from palace whose currently on loan at Bromley

I don’t think Leaburn or Jones will be sold this window - I think we’ll offload as many non contributors as we can and if we add 2 or 3 in the places we all seem to agree on, we can have a real crack at the playoffs - if we get it right, our competition is nothing to fear
Hope you are right, but we have a long history of selling [or giving away] our best players at the worst possible time.

If Mile’s head is turned, they will take the cash in January.

I also think Taylor and Kanu might go in this new window.

Question is - will we get better players in?
I don’t think this ownership can be accused of giving anyone away . The only players of note I can think of sold under their ownership CBT and May both wanted out so you get what you can for them.

Seriously doubt we’ll be making cash bids for anyone. Three or four out and two loans in. Unless we’ve accepted bids for our players when we might look to replace with permanent ins.

First, Ronnie Moore's don't count, silly made up rumour of the window.

1/10 for effort. Losses points for "help avoid relegation" and "addicts"

It's never truly a transfer window until this particular Twitter account springs up with utter nonsense.
  • That is the type of midfielder we should be targeting though!

Exeter do have a few tidy / technical midfielders that would improve us.

We should be all over the best players playing at Reading, Crawley, Exeter, Orient, Cambridge etc

For how long though? Without the window we would have signed one in November, but will either or both of the injured pair be back by say February, making a 3rd RB a bit of a luxury then?

Unless Watson is out for the season I don't especially understand the RB move if Ramsey is back in 2 weeks. I'd be more than happy with Small covering and REG at a push.

As things stand Small should keep his place as first choice. Being more attacking and left footed means although Ramsay is the better player, playing Ramsay won’t definitely improve us.

REG is too defensive to do that role in the system we’re playing now, you’d have to switch it round with a much more attacking LWB.

I guess much depends on budget.

If true trading Crowley for Edun. seems sensible as it would lessen any fee.

Personally I think we should be looking at loans as many players are getting released from their initial loan and might be more open to a L1 move if a Championship loan hasn't worked out or maybe they have exceeded expectations in L2.

    *annual transfer window reminder*

Player trades rarely happen. It’s not to say they don’t, but on the whole if I ever see them I take it with a massive pinch of salt.

and the clubs need the actual fees to balance the books. players may go both ways but both teams will pay a fee, they won’t be swapped

Yeah the last thing I'd want is Kayne thrown straight back in and gets injured again. Edwards came with a decent assists record from Scotland but I'd say he's more of a defend first and use his monster long throws as a weapon. I can't see us loaning someone like Imray from Palace because I don't think he'd play enough for their liking.

Unless we're thinking of shifting Watson for a very small sum before his contract expires in the summer?

Where did the Alfie May money go? Many don't seem to believe we spent a lot on Ahadme. We certainly didn't spend a lot on a 33-year-old Godden. That only leaves Mitchell who had told Millwall he wasn't going to sign a new contract.

Should be loads of May's fee left. (Unless it was spent on Ahadme.)

Yeh but he's going via Bromley, stopping off for a bacon sarnie at Wycombe then catching a bus to Charlton.

Yeah supposedly. Not sure how long their first choice RB is out for , Grimmer who played against us isn't their regular starter.
