The way our keeper situation is progressing, I could see us starting the season with Harry and AMB...🙄5

I don't think we will, but if we do at least they'd be second and third choiceeastterrace6168 said:The way our keeper situation is progressing, I could see us starting the season with Harry and AMB...🙄

Seems a bit premature to be saying that given Doherty went from "rumoured" to completed in the same day. Its technically possible yes but I personally would be very surprised indeed if that happened.eastterrace6168 said:The way our keeper situation is progressing, I could see us starting the season with Harry and AMB...🙄0 -
Think we can do better than Watson for the back up, if Ramsay gets injured again. Watson is not up to it.DDOUBLEE said:Expecting Isted, Asiimwe, Fraser, Ness and Henry to move on, wouldn't be shocked if Edun did as well. Could honestly get 3 decent loan signings in for the GK, CB and CM if needed.

Not sure if shared and how credible?
But Dobson to Wrexham as suggested before0 -
Says the bloke who said he wouldn’t support Charlton anymore if we sold May.golfaddick said:
Reasonably happy, although we've yet to see any of them play. I remember last January loads of people telling me that Coventry was the dogs bollox & that Ladapo played for a team that walked this League the season before.sam3110 said:To those asking a few days ago about not having the players in before the start of pre season and not spending any money, how do you feel now? Still feel like it's not enough, or are some of your concerns eased by the latest 3 incomings?
Let's give it 10 games before we all wet ourselves....ok ?11 -

When someone starts up about how Conor Coventry isn't good enough before seeing how he goes in a fully Jones-selected side, I'm sure I'll do some moaningeastterrace6168 said:

The other late addition might Fred Onyedimna as a utility forward/ midfield/ wing back, and possibly Cameron McGeehan, midfielder from Colchester who has a bit of a tangential career with 3yrs in Belgium
Just gone to Northampton too.2 -

The player you are describing is Dobson under NJ. Some of his assists, attacking play and the goal in his final home game were excellent.Garrymanilow said:I'm actually not devastated to not be getting Dobson back. He's a good player, very good at what he does and Jones helped him show that he can be more than just a tackling ruiner. However, I wasn't super excited about a midfield of Coventry, Berry and Dobson. A little bit too samey, not enough spark and pace in there. Assuming Berry is playing as the most advanced midfielder I'd rather have a quick, dynamic and creative midfielder behind him who is happy to put his foot in than a player who is defensive first and plays after that. It's not an anti-Dobson thing, it's about balance. We need two midfielders and whoever we get in that spot might end up being one of the most important pieces of the puzzle
I really hope Coventry does not prove to be a lightweight passenger. Billed as being a set piece Guru to controlling the midfield. We didn't see much of either in his 17 appearances.0 -
Is he already your 'One' this season then Leuth? Not even going to wait to see if we have an erratic defender who plays some lovely passes?Leuth said:

Coventry averaged over 2 successful tackles a game playing for us last season, at 2.2Southbank said:

Dobson averaged 2.9 tackles a game, and was the main "enforcer" of the side
That puts Coventry in the top 10% of midfielders in League 1 last season for successful tackles per 90 mins.
Yes, he's not Dobson, but yes, he can tackle14 -
We are ahead of where we would be most seasons on the eve of the first friendly which is fantastic to see.
The only really major piece of the puzzle left is the goalkeeper. Get that sorted and we’d be more than ready to start the season next weekend.
Still want three to round out the squad (GK, CB, CM) and then start work on finding new clubs for unwanted players but otherwise things are looking very good.28 -
Coventry also is in the right place a lot more than Dobson is, and makes more interceptions. Hopefully next season he can start to show more of his quality on the ball and then we will have the better all-round player we were hoping forsam3110 said:

Coventry is still in his honeymoon period and getting some very kind reviews. That's actually a good thing, not criticising. Hopefully it gives him space to improve. I hope he's an excellent player for us next season because we need him to be. At the same time, we all have to agree that the excuses will run out fairly quickly and it's important he starts the first quarter well.

Yes, very much agree with all of that....... just wondering ........... if Miles isn't back until October....... and then takes a while to get match fit...... I'd like to see us cover the risk of Chuks doing a Chuks and leaving us with 3 strikers for potentially several months.......Callumcafc said:We are ahead of where we would be most seasons on the eve of the first friendly which is fantastic to see.

We can use the loan market for an emergency, rather than our main marquee signings.WrightCharlie said:

I think Campbell is going to be used as the 10 a lot this year, don't see where else he fits in so would expect him to move inside as he's not built to be a wingback

I think Watson is fine for cover, he was arguably the most improved player from the Nathan Jones effect. I mean if he wanted to go or an offer comes in then by all means accept and move him on but think he showed enough under Jones end of last season to do a job as cover.robroy said:

Not convinced, think Jones wants to keep him as a winger option if he wanted to change the shape of the team.Marriott110 said:I think Campbell is going to be used as the 10 a lot this year, don't see where else he fits in so would expect him to move inside as he's not built to be a wingback
The 10 role really needs fresh blood we've had Fraser and Morgan not up to it in recent seasons while Anderson showed some potential under Jones, we need someone who's just come off the back of a good season playing there, unless any of our current signings are intended to play there. I feel if the answer was in the squad in Campbell we'd have played him there instead of Anderson and the kind of thing we'd have done if Sandgaard was still here.0 -

Loans definitely a decent option but not sure how much quality we'd get at short notice? Say we went for another quality striker now...... it would give us good cover until Miles was up to speed and perhaps we wouldn't miss Miles so much when he (inevitably) gets sold and/or Chuks does a Chuks?mendonca said:

Without knowing any of the relevant info to make such a decision I think I'd go for a good GK, someone at CB and another good striker and rely on squad cover for midfield .........like Campbell, Edun, Z Mitchell, one of the wingbacks.......?
If there's enough 'outs' and budget room it'd be great to see 4 coming in to strengthen the whole spine?
So far though, this is the best window I can remember in a long time ........let's keep 'em coming!0 -
Could be used as a striker option or wing back. That’s the positions where Jones used him last yearMarriott110 said:I think Campbell is going to be used as the 10 a lot this year, don't see where else he fits in so would expect him to move inside as he's not built to be a wingback
I’d use him as an attacking wing back option, probably not going to start many games but if we are chasing a game it’s a good option. Also if we had Edwards at LCB it would work well as it could just shift to a back 4 and allow Campbell to freedom to attack. I don’t think Campbell is a central player, it takes away his biggest strength which is 1v1 dribbling0
