Jones really has put his stall out by saying 'People will look at the squad and say it's stronger' with this decision. Even if he did manage to convince Cornick to take a cut, I'm not convinced as a like for like in for May our squad is stronger. Praying for a week of good activity cause all we want is to feel optimistic about the coming season and management are surely not dense enough to understand that this is likely to be unwelcome announcement to most Addicks.

Call this cope or whatever but May is not a 'guaranteed' 20-goal striker. Three seasons running doesn't 'guarantee' a fourth. Also, he just isn't our best player (Leaburn probably is)
    I'd rather call it crap

Fair play to Alfie. Can't dispute his record, but if a young striker with potential comes in then I can kind of understand cashing in. I think some of us are being very short sighted here to be honest.
Personally i'd rather keep the striker who guarantees you 20+ goals than sign a young striker with potential.
All this cashing in stuff. When we signed Mendonca did we think about selling on and cashing in? No but he fired us to promotion and paid his way.
Jones wants to cash in and do it his own way I thought most fans would respect that.

page 214.  Summary - A manager that has failed in his his last 2 jobs, with a record of W4, L2, D10 deserves unwavering 100% support…A team that finished 16th have lost their Captain and Top Scorer. May is not a guaranteed 20 goal a season striker, doing it 3x doesn’t guarantee a 4th.  Anyone who is concerned about the above is a bedwetter or suicidal or frenzied hair on fire alarmists who don’t see the bigger picture.  Meanwhile, reality check, to settle the nerves we have actually signed a reserve GK, a reserve LB, a CH and a 31 year old Midfielder.  With the expectation of another 5/6 signings it doesn’t matter how many “twist yourself into a pretzel” classes I attend, I still have some serious reservations about where we are and what the final picture will look like, but as at today, given where we are, I don't see that the team we could put out now is any better than the one that finished last season, is very short of goals and is certainly not in danger of top half.  Let’s hope the plan comes together, Jones works miracles, we get goals and talent through the door, HMS piss the league is in full sail, with the wind, the valley is buzzing and we are set for Championship football…..but forgive me for my cautious pessimism, but as always time will tell and is often the pudding in which the proof is found. None of us can stand much more of this cringeworthy mediocrity marooned in the dark depths of the football ladder.
Very dramatic summary of what is a (good) League One player being sold to another League One club.

Very distorted version of our manager’s career record.

Very dismissive of the signings that have been made before they’ve kicked a ball.

Apart from that, totally reasonable post.

May choosing Brum over Huddersfield could have a massive impact on their current 37484 game unbeaten run coming to an end
I remember that game that ended their unbeaten run. 2-0 at The Valley I think it was. How many games unbeaten were they again? 38 or something.

I remember some nasty Charlton fans singing about where Hudds could stick their record
Lee Clark wasn't happy, there again I've never seen Lee Clark happy.

Jones says we have been bold and aggressive in this transfer window.  Dobson and May gone. A reserve keeper, reserve LB, a CB and a midfielder signed.

Imagine if we were not bold and aggressive!
I hope the window gets better and quick because so far, it is as crap as usual.
But we've got to trust Jones...or something

Isn't this the kind of model that Peterborough do when it comes to strikers? not saying I have faith in the club to replace May with a younger version scoring 20+ goals next season while making a profit and personally think it's madness to sell to a promotion rival but I just hope we don't sell before we have his replacement in first.
When his replace comes in he will be someone who is not on the radar and also no one has mentioned on here.

Youngster from Europe or European connections.

He’s almost certainly mentioned somewhere on the thread, but talking to some Derby fans at the weekend - James Collins has turned down a contract at Derby, another with the obvious link.

Why would a Championship team want Godden and not May?
Because Godden a better option he a better all round player .. not just goalscoring but his assists as well , May never played higher them mid table league one think people see him
as a risk … given age and price
To be far to May he can't do the assists and score! He's the only one that can score, so might as well be the one in the middle. Being out wide is nuts, but then we had nobody who could put in a decent cross for him (after our other half decent crosser was sold to a rival). Hmm a theme developing!!??
That’s why you need to strikers both scoring .. not relying on just one
    Or even two, Ronnie.
After the day we've had as Charlton fans, the last thing we need right now are 2 f**k*ng Ronnie's OK.

I believe you and I have been here before, and I can’t tell you how absolutely devastated I am to receive such a well informed and detailed review from a self appointed luminary and font of all wisdom.  I am absolutely floored and will try much, much harder not to disappoint you going forward and, however difficult, will endeavour to reach the high levels of bullshittery and outright bollocks you constantly set.  Keep up the good work.

Sounds like a good offer from Brum...if true...🤷‍♂️
Once we'd accepted an offer from him his mind was made up to leave so it was clearly then going to be about money.  Short career and all that.  If he can pick up half a million a year for a couple of years he goes a long way towards securing his future I guess.
Accepted an offer from him, or for him?

One letter (then rearranged) can make quite a difference here!
We received an offer For him.  My mistake.
Give us some good news @Swisdom we need some good signings in now , you must know something.
All I know is I'm going to have a new neighbour.

Deathly silent on the rumour front.  The club have worked hard to keep everything under wraps.  I know we were keen on Etete, Ahadme, Davies.  We did look at Lolos formerly of Crawley but we went off him fairly quickly.
There's a trialist over from Mount Pleasant apparently but no idea who that is
And one other mystery player who has a lot of rave reviews but who is very raw at the moment.  I'm sworn to secrecy on him so as not to jeopardise anything but I wouldn't think he's necessarily lined up as a starter just yet anyway.
Call me cynical, but that is the most Charlton transfer rumour mill possible.

I am going to assume, we went off him because Bolton were interested and he would rather have gone there? That's usually what happens unless it's outside football reasons I.e. they want to live nearer family.

A trialist from Mount Pleasant, who let's be honest, likely won't be good enough to make an immediate impact, and then a mystery player that won't start, when we already have talented players that shouldn't quite be starting anyway, along with selling our best player.

    Just have to laugh sometimes.
The signings so far have all come from nowhere so nothing to say there aren’t a few more up the sleeve.

the “other player” - if he joins -  might settle really quickly and go straight into the team.  He’s an unknown quantity at this time but I’ve heard good stuff about him so he could be a real coup

No they haven't? We'd known about Mannion, Mitchell and Edwards for weeks before they were announced officially.

You then contradict yourself in your second paragraph, because you've heard good things about the unknown quantity, who would also be a real coup to sign. Which one is it? 😂

Trialist from Mount Pleasant, who is that then? Devonte Campbell we already had on trial and didn't take it further. Trivante Stewart is on loan to a Serbian side where he has scored zero goals. Not sure this Jamaican club has any more strikers to feed us.

Dont worry, give it until January and we'll probably find out.

We'll probably be in mid-table, we'll start seeing posts on here saying that Jones should go, which'll eventually be echoed from the stands.

He'll get sacked, and then we'll be right back here again in the summer, because failing to back the Manager the last 4-years has worked so well - Rinse and repeat. Wont ever be the fans fault though, even though the actions behind sacking the Manager will be as a result of the fans voting with their feet.

Exactly, we need 5/6 top quality signings or this season will be the same as the last few. A new spine of the team and most of that is needed in the next week or so…

I'm so glad we have owners with money & serious ambitions....so much so we dont have to sell our best players & can recruit meaningfully and with purpose.
We do if the manager would prefer alternative players and probably use the cash, raised by Mays sale, to buy who he wants. We shall see.
    We will indeed.

But we've already slipped past Nathan Jones "ideal" situation of having the bulk of the squad in by the start of pre-season. If this is "backing the manager" then I hate to see when he's not.

Big week ahead. 4 days then we play our first pre-season game. Then they are off to their training camp.

We need to have brought in at least another 5 players by then - one being a replacement striker for May. A proven striker who has shown can score 15- 20 goals per season. And also some creative midfielders who can also score goals themselves.

As of today the squad couldn't score in a brothel.
