.The wettest 18 months on record for the UK will result in shortages of home grown food and crops this year. Fields are all so wet, many crops have failed and still too wet to sow for this year. Prices are likely to rise as a result.

One has to free oneself from the illusion that climate policies are environmental policies anymore. We redistribute the world’s wealth via climate policy.
Climate Change is a $1tn a year industry and is set to double that figure in the next 5-10 years.

It’s not climate change that’s the problem, it’s man made climate relocation that we should probably be more concerned about.

Pretty sure French nuclear reactors are gradually being taken off line , and we are sending them electricity. The reactors are aging and need replacing. I'm no expert but I remember hearing this as the energy crisis hit. As NJ says they are 2 years nearer(in this case) to going out of service (rather than getting fit)0

I see Scotland are reneging on their 2030 climate targets. Not good news and I suspect they won't be the last. No-one's taking this seriously enough.4

To be fair to them I think they are trapped in a situation they don't have control over and I think their criticisms of the Westminster Government are perfectly valid, but I suspect we'll see as the date gets nearer lots of other countries that signed up to COP targets will be reprioritising other things and ultimately Copping out.0 -

https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-clean-energy-was-top-driver-of-chinas-economic-growth-in-2023/
Clean energy contributed a record 11.4tn yuan ($1.6tn) to China’s economy in 2023, accounting for all of the growth in investment and a larger share of economic growth than any other sector.
Whilst we kick the can down the road, China is forging ahead with clean energy, and we risk being left behind.1 -

As much as I am passionate about leaving this world as clean and unpolluted as I possibly can for future generations and do all that is within my power to respect creation. I do think the cleaning up of one's soul is of a far greater urgency. Man-made aswell!0

There isn't a recycling thread, but when you want to do the right thing and have to put yourself out to, it's so annoying. I'm trying to get rid of stuff and want to recycle old VHS tapes and CD's, but unless I drive over 100 miles to Cheltenham, or pay through the nose for a recycling specialist to collect them, I have loads of pre recorded and blanks destined for landfill. The hard plastic casings are just as bad 😡
Edit -I use old CD's as coasters, but we could never host that many guests 😉0 -

Not quite as bad but a slightly annoying thing for me is we recently had a big clear out and had a load of stuff to get rid of. Sorted it all into categories and wanted to take it all to our local recycling centre which is 5 mins away in Sidcup but we are unable to as that is run by Bexley council and we live barely across the boarder in Greenwich. The nearest Greenwich one is half an hour away. Just unnecessary and inefficient.1 -

Our one has ANPR so they know where the vehicle is registered. You also have to book a slot online and will turn you away if you haven't done done it in advance. It's like they are actively trying to discourage visitors. No wonder there is so much fly tipping. I think landfill tax needs to be seriously re-thought, too many unintended consequences.2

It's annoying for those who live nearer another local authority's tip to take their landfill rubbish to one further away, but the fact is it's factored into your council tax. Why should the residents of one area pick up the bill for those in another in its simplist terms? Especially when you have commercial businesses taking the mickey and dumping for free if they can get away with it.
The days when councils could take a pragmatic view and turn a blind eye to out of area residents using their facilities are behind us through necessity.
It really doesn't impact largely on fly tipping either tbh. If you're a fly tipper, you're a fly tipper, whether you have to prove where you live or not.2 -
I'm trying to become minimalist and buying seconds/recycled where possible, but just take a look at the cost of recycled garden furniture!!!!! Just bought bird feeders made of recycled materials. Cheap but destroyed by squirrels within minutes 😟 False economy. Got rid of my old NAD amp earlier, bike earlier in week, LP's up next followed by Charlton related stuff, books, programmes and VHS tapes. What a load of old Sh*t 😉
