31 December 2023, Lincoln were 12th with 32 points and we were 13th with 29 points (we had two games in hand).

Lincoln now has 58 points and only 3 points off the playoffs!

Not too shabby for us tonight, just a shame Wigan couldn't drum up an equaliser at Wycombe

Lincoln settle for 6. Wycombe win, Burton lose.
  • Reading beaten. Just the Bolton - Oxford game still going. All in all a good night for us.

Not L1, but another win for Forest Green and they are out of the relegation places. They've played 2 more games than Colchester, but a great job by Steve Cotterill, showing how much difference a proper manager makes.

We have to play them both. Wouldn't surprise me if we finished above both of them.

Very good night for us apart from the Wigan game could’ve done with a draw

Giving us yet another tearjerking Ryan Inniss redemption arc, hopefully.

Also seems like Garner might not have been the problem at Colchester

good night for Cheltenham... just a shame for them their next two are Barnsley away and Peterboro at home - they really need to win one of those, especially with lots of the bottom 8/9 playing each other this Saturday.

Northampton are definitely catchable as well. They are going through a rough patch, although they do have some favourable games remaining.

Exeter - Burton and Reading - Cambridge are the 2 that could be very interesting from Saturday's games.

Shrewsbury at home to Carlisle, they need to win that. The only remaining games against teams in the bottom half afterwards are against us and Wycombe. Could be in massive trouble by the time they play us.

I dont know if it's our recent wins or the fact the bottom 6 cant string a run of results between them but I'm feeling rather confident atm.

Not like me to say it but we arent going down this season.
Teams are at the bottom for a reason - because they can’t buy a win.

Even if we were still winless we’d still not have been cut adrift yet.

Wycombe taking points off Wigan was better than a Wigan win. Now both teams are catchable with both still to play.

Top half finish is still within our sights. 👍

A Wigan win would’ve made that harder.

Happy with the results, even the Wycombe win so we can battle it out for 13th spot!

Under Appleton (final 10 games - no wins, 3 draws and 7 defeats) we would have still had the two defeats in our current last six games but the wins probably would have been draws - or worse. That 8 points is the platform for staying up and confidence that Jones has generated.

This is no longer the table we should be looking at (I know given the title of the conversation it is relevant) but top half is genuinely achievable and the target we should be setting. Bristol Rovers and Northampton both looking abject at the moment and they are only 6 points ahead of us.

It won't be easy but I think it will definitely send the right message to prospective players for next season if we can get ourselves above that half way point. Given Lincoln's results, it can definitely be done in this sub-standard league 1.

Please, don't use that word in anything associated with Charlton, me feel dirty.

Didn't help their cause when a certain striker got a silly red card.

Only Fleetwood showing some signs of form out of the bottom 4, so they may well survive.

If Fleetwood stay up this season, that is the most damning indictment this league could possibly have
  • Updated strength of schedule remaining:

    Charlton: 14.00
    Exeter: 14.25
    Shrewsbury: 10.75
    Reading: 10.62
    Burton: 14.56
    Cambridge United: 11.88
    Cheltenham: 12.60
    Fleetwood: 12.12
    Port Vale: 12.10

Higher the number, easier the remaining schedule.

It's a very scary time for Fleetwood. Their owner has to divest his shares since being done for fraud but he still hasn't done that. He is literally the only thing keeping them even remotely competitive. They're on a peninsula in the Northwest and have a population of 25,000. It's insane that they've got as far as they have and it's all off the back of one man's investment (a fair bit of it via cash he stole from his customers). Eventually the FL will force him out and unless Fleetwood get taken over by the Fisherman's Friend manufacturers there's no-one else waiting in the wings to keep Fleetwood's budgets at this level. Considering they were able to take Stockley off us and loan Kilkenny for an amount Bournemouth were happy with their budget is going to drop so massively they'll keel over completely. They really are fighting for their lives at this point
