If Fleetwood stay up this season, that is the most damning indictment this league could possibly have
It's a very scary time for Fleetwood. Their owner has to divest his shares since being done for fraud but he still hasn't done that. He is literally the only thing keeping them even remotely competitive. They're on a peninsula in the Northwest and have a population of 25,000. It's insane that they've got as far as they have and it's all off the back of one man's investment (a fair bit of it via cash he stole from his customers). Eventually the FL will force him out and unless Fleetwood get taken over by the Fisherman's Friend manufacturers there's no-one else waiting in the wings to keep Fleetwood's budgets at this level. Considering they were able to take Stockley off us and loan Kilkenny for an amount Bournemouth were happy with their budget is going to drop so massively they'll keel over completely. They really are fighting for their lives at this point
Yeah, when he was jailed I assumed that was it and that they'd implode, like to a 'not being able to play their fixtures and ceasing to exist' level, so the fact they've not only played but won a few games has been startling

He's still clinging on at the moment. He's dragging out being disentangled from the club and he's put his children on the board in his place. I think one of them is 19 and the other one was briefly subject to a football banning order that was overturned. They're just placeholders to allow him to keep bankrolling the place. As long as he's holding on they'll be ok but once he finally gets forced to give up his shares they're in a whole heap of trouble and it'll only be worse if the income is reduced through relegation. The implosion is coming, just remains to be seen how massive (on a scale of very to very very very)

I have to say, this is one club implosion I'm feeling fairly relaxed about. You shot your shot fellas
  • The Fleetwood situation reminds me of Rushden & Diamonds. Based in a tiny location, bankrolled by the bloke who owned Dr Martens, and eventually it all went horribly wrong and they went out of business very quickly after he left if I remember correctly.
  • The sensible thing for the club to do, assuming he's going to stop funding them as soon as he loses control, would be to apply to the FA to drop more than one level at the end of the season. Get down to a level where income might match costs, or alternatively to a level that doesn't have an owners & directors test so the same bloke could keep  funding them. But nothing about the bloke's actions to date suggest any sort of consideration for that. So they'll end up playing in League 2 with a budget suited to the Isthmian League and more than likely that will be the end of them.
  • Wasn’t the Fleetwood chairman just going to pass it on to his kids and then keep funding them anyway?

Never mind them, we are going to win so Stevenage, Blackpool, Oxford and Lincoln are the ones we want to lose or drop points. 😁

Not sure how that affects the relegation zone of this league.

But feel free to go back into the play-offs thread if you want to discuss that.

Went to see them today,. They lost 0-4 and are in terminal decline.

  • Chelts, Fleetwood and Burton all still have to play each other - (Vale have Burton and Cambridge to play too) 5 games there that I think will probably decide it.

I can see them all taking points off each other and the total points for safety being relatively low - in fact we might even have enough now.

Obviously we should still be aiming for a top half finish and i'll feel way more comfortable when we hit 50 points so works not done yet.
  • The bottom 6 have between them TWO wins in the last 5 matches. The only side any sort of form is Fleetwood, who might scrape enough points to catch one of Cambridge or Burton.

  • I think we are probably just safe now with today’s point. I think come end of the season 45 points and the goal difference will be enough after 46 games.
  • I still think Cheltenham will get out of it and Cambridge who are in free fall will go down. In their last 10 games, Cambridge have 7 goals and 4 points, and most of those came in a 4-0 win v Carlisle.

Cheltenham's next game is Fleetwood away which is a must win for Fleetwood given they've played 39, and a must not lose for Cheltenham. Then after that Cheltenham have 3 winnable home games out of 4, Exeter home, Orient away, Carlisle home, Bristol Rovers home.
  • We can be backed at 250/1 to go down.
  • Burton v Port Vale should be interesting today

0-0 would be good I suppose...🙄, although we should have enough already to be looking up the table rather than down...

  • Didn't think Poor Vale could keep losing and in a funny way it means Burton are still in the mire. Everyone below us has matches against each other or the top 6.

We just need to get 4 points soon as.

Not sure it matters, we’re safe, but it’s nothing to be proud of. Need to crack on and finish as high as possible in the division. I actually wish we’d been playing this weekend, we’re unbeaten in 8 and I think momentum matters in this league.

Agree, I thought that when writing that its hardly a badge of honour in this dreadful league. Just hope we turn up on Friday as we've never performed well with these damn breaks. Just looked at the table and can't believe Orient are on the cusp of play offs.... Talk about depressing!

Lets face it we have the top marksman and a reasonably fit squad, unbeaten in 8 and showing some form so the only way is up

Terrible result for Stevenage against Carlisle.

I'd love to see Taylor and Bonne relegated but Cambridge is an easy match to get to for next season so wouldn't mind keeping them in our league
