Ikpeazu is under contract until end of the season so some sort of deal would need to be done assuming Vale who themselves could get dragged into the relegation scrap would let him go. Still money talks.ForeverAddickted said:Sounds like the Paul Hayes type Striker... We've already got BWP1 -
I hope we have a replacement lined up.robroy said:CBT gone apparently.1 -
Where abouts and is that in the public domain? I'm tracking all the gossip news etcrobroy said:CBT gone apparently.0 -
Depends on the deal I guess. Could be 6 months just to get us through this season. Even if it’s 18 months he’s useful given Aneke’s fitness issues and the fact Leaburn will be coming back from a second major injury and will need to be protected.Pelling1993 said:
Very true. Just seem to be dipping in quality with each linked striker. Which is to be expected I supposefenaddick said:
can be useful to have someone who is a fairly solid, cheap backup who won’t kick up a fuss about being on the benchPelling1993 said:

If we do sign him I’d imagine we go after someone else in the summer of higher quality1 -
I’m not sure this is a brilliant recommendation but our defence made that Port Vale striker look like Didier Drogba the other week. He was unplayable ( at least by us) - If he is relatively cheap I’d do the deal because we just need someone to hold the ball up front for now. We could try to upgrade in the summer2

Ikpeazu had a good game at their place, but not very mobile and didn't press.
He was very good at disrupting/battling our defenders, and winning free kicks on the halfway line just by being big and awkward.1 -
Was a real handful against us. And he scored of course. 👆Callumcafc said:Charlton & Wycombe interested in Uche Ikpeazu from Port Vale

Wouldn’t think he’d be near the top of our shopping list, but he’d do a job for the rest of the season.0 -
Ikpeazu stats are nothing to write home about. If true, it looks like a panic signing. I think i'd prefer us to look at the short term loan market for a number 9 and then re-assess in the summer.

Not strictly all down to our defence that day the midfield gave little protection for a change and ours looked better than Vale’s defence who made our front three look like Best, Law and Charlton, all managing to score.alburyaddick said:I’m not sure this is a brilliant recommendation but our defence made that Port Vale striker look like Didier Drogba the other week. Got to he honest, I'd be a bit underwhelmed by this. Stockton at least has a history of a decent strike rate, Goodwin has potential and JCH is an absolute bagsman that's also a physical presence.
Uche is just a bit of a handful, poor strike rate.9 -
It won’t be a panic but more a case of need if only short term.charlton_hero said:Ikpeazu stats are nothing to write home about. If true, it looks like a panic signing. I think i'd prefer us to look at the short term loan market for a number 9 and then re-assess in the summer.1 -

Have to disagree, thought he looked very mobile for his size. Remember him using his pace to burn past Hector & Jones at one point.Ben18 said:Ikpeazu had a good game at their place, but not very mobile and didn't press.

He gave them both a torrid time and has a decent pedigree having played in the Scottish Prem and Championship. Obviously not a goalscorer but apparently we need someone primarily for May to play off.

Appreciate that there are players who are more the hold up type striker etc, but it's not that encouraging.2 -

Would expect that now gets announced this afternoon.3 -
Unfortunately where we are not every signing can be for the long term. We need to make sure we’re not relegated and then finish the season as well as possible, it’ll help attract players in the summer.Pelling1993 said:

He’s nearly 29 and shown enough to spend about 4 years of his career playing in the SPL and Championship until more recently the Turkish top flight and L1.
From looking him up he’s big, strong, quick and hard working but not great on the ball. It doesn’t tell us how he’d do for us but we need a physical striker or two. He looks like the sort of signing who if he doesn’t perform could become back up next season. If we can’t get someone more long term until the summer we still need a big striker to do a job in the short term. At his age he might be reaching his peak and surprise us, if not he could give us cover next season.13 -
Can he play up front?Reading Addick said:Been told by director at Aylesbury FC we have put in a bid for James Callan a 19 year old keeper2 -
Very amused to see Ikpeazu scored his first and only goal of the season against us. I don't know enough about him but if we're playing a striker up front with May then it's less about their goalscoring rate and more about the space they open up and the problems they cause for defenders to aid in May's goals. Paul Hayes only got 3 goals for us in 11/12 and Yann 12 but they brought so much more than just goals and created so much opportunity for BWP. I reckon some of our best performances that season were with Hayes alongside BWP. We're clearly getting down our list now but we need someone in that spot and a big lump who can hold the ball up and pull defenders away to leave gaps for Alfie is fine. We need something to make the ball stick up front or we're never going to win again12

May alone won’t score nearly enough to get us promoted. Our midfield doesn’t have enough goals in, if we are moving to wing backs then neither do they, and our centre backs have zero goals this season.Chunes said:

Hopefully Ikpeazu is just a stop-gap and we bring in a proper goalscoring big man in the summer1 -
Didn't realise Ikpeazu had been at Wycombe before , that might make it a bit of a tricky one to make happen. They've only got Vokes, Dale Taylor on loan from Forest and Brandon Hanlan as strikers so can see the fit there for them too.1
-
I think he'd definitely be a stopgap but tbf we have only scored 2 less goals than Pompey who are top of the table.NabySarr said:

People are getting really obsessed by strike rates. Our biggest problem currently is that when it’s going to our strikers it’s not staying there. We have a goal scorer, we need someone to complement him and get us playing higher up the pitch.I thought Ikpeazu was the stand out player from that game and as a squad option would be an excellent addition.15

Think the lack of the ball sticking is part of why we don’t have many midfield goals. If the ball can stick at his feet it should encourage forward runs. The new midfield signings seemed more likely to make those runs on SaturdayRC_CAFC said:People are getting really obsessed by strike rates.
