Craig MacGillivray signs from Pompey - 2 year deal

Compilation videos for central defenders and goalkeepers really are a waste of time though aren't they? With these positions, it would be more pertinent to show a compilation of the times they have screwed up, but really as Gallen says in his interview above, its all about being boringly consistent which doesn't make for a very good highlights video.1

I've only got a limited version of Wyscout to work with but had a look. Generally, MacGillivray was the better shot-stopper, especially when dealing with shots from distance (no surprise), however Amos was better with the ball at his feet and dealing with crosses. It pretty much confirms what Portsmouth fans have already been saying about him.jonno said:
It would be be interesting to see the stats for Amos to compare themCallumcafc said:
Looks like a very solid goalkeeper. May have some struggles with the ball at his feet in tight situations but his long distribution actually appears to be excellent - one of his strengths last season. Plenty of balls delivered onto the head of Jayden Stockley I expect.

Remember thinking that a million pounds seemed a lot to pay for the relatively unknown Dean Kiely at the time.
But, my god what an inspired signing that proved to be, the payback came in bucket loads with the points he saved us. An 'extra special' keeper is worth his weight in gold and the difference he can make over a 'decent' keeper is the difference between promotion or not.
Kiely went to Portsmouth when he left us and was apparently instrumental in their escape from relegation. Hopefully this guy can reciprocate and be equally effective for us ... albeit at the other end of the table.

Size isn’t importantBraziliance said:
According to the Portsmouth site Craig is 6'2 or just under, Amos is most definitely 6'4 or just under. I'd say there's a 2 inch height difference either wayScoham said:
Wouldn't rely on Wikipedia for player heights. A Google search on Amos suggests he could be anything from 5 ft 11 to 6 ft 3 and McGillivray between 5 ft 11 and 6 ft 2.LargeAddick said:
According to wiki, Amos 5’ 11’’ and MacGillivray 6’ 2’’Braziliance said:Some very good saves in that montage, seems a bit short so I can't imagine him coming to claim as confidently as Amos did, also doesn't seem as commanding but he definitely looks like a pure shot stopper and agile.

Looks like we need a man on MacGillivray's right post!1 -
Some intresting comments in there, what different attributes do they want?ForeverAddickted said:

Or maybe the accusation was lazy and wrong in the first place?Chunes said:

Described by Pompey fans as an excellent shot stopper but only capable of "hoofing it deep" when with the ball. Sounds like an older, somewhat lesser version of Dillon. Seems like at least Amos' equal. At least we can check this position off the list. Next!

A goal kick to Stockley will suit me rather than that awful passing along the back line we tried against Burton and AFC.NapaAddick said:Described by Pompey fans as an excellent shot stopper but only capable of "hoofing it deep" when with the ball. Playing out from the back is great if you have the right players to do it and can consistently beat the opposition press. If you can't you will concede a lot of silly goals.mendonca said:

Has he injured his top lip too? Could be dirt, but definitely something a bit suspect looking going on there…0

Pompey lads at work last night told me he is a great shot stopper but not great at crosses, they were sorry to see him go, but they reckon their top pay is 5.5k a week, perhaps we offered more.0

Here is a bit of context from The Portsmouth News, the distribution goes as far as my village in West Sussex.Looks like Cowley wanted a player who was better with the ball at his feet. The paper certainly rates him.

I don't get the Cowley love. They're another team's manager in our league, with no affiliation to us, and personally, they seem like a right pair of melons. I hope they don't do well.0 -
Good to see Adkins using his experience and also doubling up as keeping coach. That must free enough money to bring at least one more player in1
