    Phone in sick
Yeah, just don't go. It's not a crime. This is England v Germany. Who are these people that expect normal people to do other stuff?

Hopefully Philips will be allowed to push forward more to support like he did in the Croatia game. Think he’s much better winning the ball and making stuff happen in their half.
Yeah he is actually better when the other team have the ball and he can press. Against Scotland it was all a bit sideways. He’s dangerous when he wins the ball back in the other teams 3rd.

Just attack them, i’d rather lose than win playing negative football.

I don’t care who plays, the formation, or the performance as long as we win.

Know a lot of so called Englishmen who want us to lose and would love to be able to shut them up.

I am no fan of Southgate, I could forgive the penalty miss but not the profiteering through the adverts after and the fact he’s Palace

At the end of the day he’s trying to get England to a major final and I feel we are better equipped under him than anyone since El Tel in 96 to do so.

    What? A lot?

So you would rather lose 5-4 than win 1-0 in a backs to the wall performance and progress to the quarter finals?

I still can’t understand this as a thought. I’d gladly take a dull 1-0 win tonight.

Really not sure where this notion that this is a really poor German team and we have the better players comes from. From what I’ve seen they looked pretty good to me.

Their results and consistency since before the 2018 WC has been mostly mediocre to say the least.

How may knock games have we won in 90 minutes period?  None in 1990.

    Sweden 2018
    Ecuador 2006
    Denmark 2002
    Paraguay 1986
    Argentina 1966
    Portugal 1966

    Is that it?
  • l think we have a talented bunch who should feel confident that they have enough about them to win this game and progress.
I'd like to think they are not affected by any historic legacy of fear, or "beaten before we kick a ball" mentality that infests some older English football fans.
They are not playing history, they are playing in this game in the here and now.
That said, the German's seem to have a knack of finding a way to win, even when not playing particularly well or when not blessed with an array of star talent.
It is going to be tough, but I hope the players can step up to the plate and as Gareth said, make their own history.
Just please, don't go to penalties

Its the one bit of hope I have with Southgate

Putting a team like Panama to the sword, when we've failed in the past
    Winning penalty shootouts
    Beating Sweden even

Just feels like we've been breaking down curses under him, hopefully tonight will be another

Indeed - and the Home Championship - honestly people on here need to brush up on the success of the England football team since 1966

I'm always confused by the people who get upset about the idea of playing Rice and Henderson together as if they're the same kind of player. Rice is the deep defensive midfielder who can take the ball forward when needed and Henderson is there to sit deep and recycle the ball, much like how it works at Liverpool, but in place of Rice Fabinho is there to break up play. Liverpool actually play with three midfielders who are comfortable sitting deeper, and they rely a lot on their talented wide players and exceptional full backs. A lot like England in fact. Rice and Henderson in a 4-3-3 is fine, and as long as we're pushing the wing backs forwards a lot and utilising the two men playing off Kane intelligently it will be fine in a 3-4-3 or similar

When I say a lot it’s mainly people on a whats app group I play football with. They have been backing against England from the start and doing nothing but moaning and willing us to lose.

I have bitten my tongue so far but if we lose and they start gloating I may be looking for a new team as I am not a good loser( not a good trait for a Charlton fan).

They seriously lack pace in defence and midfield. A team like England should punish that.
