A one -off and a niche, but it really upset me and there's also a Charlton-ESI interest here.
BBC4 in its Storyville series last week ran "Collective - Unravelling a Scandal". Maybe you remember the deadly fire in the Bucharest night club in 2019, but the scandal is not just the fire itself but the aftermath in Romanian hospitals. Its a fly on the wall doc financed by HBO and up for numerous awards, and features the team of investigative journalists who piece by piece blew the whistle.
But here's the connection. The Head of Dossiers wrote me "you have to see this" because the newspaper concerned was actually Gazeta Sporturilor - a sport newspaper that extensively covered Nimer in Bucharest and the whole ESI saga. And I had been a bit sniffy about them as a "sport" paper. Turns out that it was the only newspaper still trusted in Romania because the editor had gone after corruption in football without favouring one club or another, whereas all the main papers are seen to be politically 'captured'. So they could run this stuff on the inside pages surrounded by the football. Weird, but the editor's a hero, and I owe him an apology. Tagging @swords_alive and @idealworld who were tracking the Romanian angle last year.5 -

I’m always happy to watch anything with a western theme, but have never heard of this show, will add to my watchlist.Jack O’Connell is an astonishing actor.2 -

Watched all of unforgotten last week. Enjoyable and an emotional watch. Personally I don't see the need for a new character. I'd rather they promoted from within and gave us more time exploring the lives of the existing team.2

Too close
On ITV this week. First episode was tonight / last night (depending on when you read this). Thriller staring Samantha Morton. Rather interesting first episode0 -
I don't believe Samantha Morton is in it.
Emily Watson (The Book Thief, Apple Tree Yard) takes the lead role of Dr. Emma Robertson, while Denise Gough (Paula) plays the manipulative Connie Mortensen.
Thalissa Teixeira, whose recent credits include Two Weeks to Live and the BBC Two love story Trigonometry, plays Connie’s so-called best friend, Ness Jones.
Other cast members include James Sives, Risteárd Cooper, Chizzy Akudolu, Karl Johnson, Eileen Davies, Nina Wadia and Paul Chahidi.

I’m just catching up with the Julie Walters series on train journeys throughout UK.
Its really very good and right up our street.
I do love her 😊0 -
There's a very complimentary mention of SCP in this interview with some of the Ted Lasso cast.

Jack O'Connell, as always, is excellent, as is Jeff Daniels, Michelle Dockery and Merrit Wever.
Hadn't realised that the writer/director also wrote and directed The Queens Gambit, as well as doing the screenplay for Logan, Minority Report and many others. Talented guy!
There is a 2nd series planned for November this year.3 -

Wholeheartedly recommend The Tunnel (French/UK) version. Thanks to those that championed it. Spent my week of lockdown bingeing it. Now on season three. Excellent.3

Dipping in and out am currently in the middle of series five of Schitts Creek.
There is the advantage that each episode is only about 20 minutes long.
I didn’t think I would like it, but the standard of acting is very good indeed, it is diverting and amusing, and it deals with ‘issues’ very well, with genuine heart as opposed to a box ticking approach.
There is a kind of Detectorists (which I think is better) approach that looks at people in a rounded way warts and all, but with respect and affection.
Reccomended.0 -
We've been watching Bob's Burgers on Disney+, very funny.1

I wanted a new gangstery type series and tried the first episodes of Sons of Anarchy and Narcos Mexico. Preferred Narcos I think though the acting in Anarchy was pretty good. Anyone seen both and have a view.0

I agree with @bolloxbolder Narcos is better than Narcos Mexico.
If you like Gangster TV series try
Suburra , Gomorrah or El Chapo .
Another really good series is Fauda which is about the Israel Defence Forces .

Yeah I love Sons, recently rewatched it all. Is a bit silly at times but also a bit different to your typical gangster series. Think Carter is spot on that as long as you dont hate the first two series stick through it as it gets better and better.0

Friday Night Dinner
Peep Show
Spaced
Inbetweeners
They are all slightly different though
I've watched the first couple of series of Peep Show. I like it but haven't found it bingeworthy though there a few laugh out loud moments. I'll finish it but over a period of time. Meantime I've started watching Green Wing and after ten minutes I wasn't sure but I'm hooked now. Dr Statham's recorder scene is one of the funniest things I've seen on TV in years! Also, to whoever suggested Fresh Meat, thanks. Great characters and some very funny bits.

Watched The Morning Show last week and was really impressed, a lot better than I thought it was going to be.
Now watching Defending Jacob which is also on Apple TV+ (making the most of my trial), 2 episodes in and really enjoying it. It seems quite similar to Your Honor but without the mob boss element.
Nice to have a break from subtitles, Gomorrah dragged for me and we only just made it to the end of series 3.1 -
Know a few people have mentioned it on here but really enjoyed watching Bosch so far on Prime. Just started series 4. Like the fact it doesn't going into that loose cannon parody of the hard bitten detective

40 mins into Viewpoint on ITV and the ‘unrealistic’ vibes are through the roof.
You’ve got surveillance officer that doesn’t carry a charger, then a nosy neighbour that didn’t pick up the other camera she’d already been using or think about taking pictures on her high resolution smart phone.3 -
New series of Inside No.9 coming soon on BBC2.6
