Landmark research comes as Racing Victoria tables proposal to phase out the whip, saying rules on its use ‘no longer appropriate’There is no significant difference in the way humans and horses experience the pain of being struck by a whip, according to a landmark study that researchers say should end the argument on the continued use of the whip in horse racing.
It comes as Racing Victoria reaffirmed its commitment to reforming whip rules, after it formally tabled a proposal to phase out the whip at a board meeting of Racing Australia on Wednesday.
Racing Victoria said it would not discuss the meeting but that it maintained its belief that “the current national whip rules are no longer appropriate and that whip reform is vital for the future of our sport”.

I’m biased because I work there, but the 3 day August festival at Brighton is a great day/s out. Stunning views over the coast & South Downs & such a cool city for a night out.....palarsehater said:Once we’re back to some sort of normality want to visit a lot more racecourses.
the tingle creek and the festival are my 2 usual trips for the year.1 -

"The dermis of the horse – the layer of tissue below the epidermis, or outer layer of skin – is significantly thicker than that of humans. But this research, led by veterinary pathologist Dr Lydia Tong of the Taronga Conservation Society, said that while that thicker dermis may offer some resilience against trauma, “it is not considered protective from external cutaneous pain”."
I'm not a dermatologist but I'd have thought there might be significance in that. After all, having been hit by a modern race horse whip myself, it's not hurt. What this study appears to determine is that human skin and horse skin has the same sensitivity on the outer layers, and not much further else.2 -

Hi guys just got off the phone to my brother and he has told me that his horse Rakhine state is running at Cheltenham 1.15 tomorrow, he is currently 16/1 on paddy power so definitely worth a e/W bet, the trainer has said he has never seen the horse this “READY” for a race might be worth a shot for you guys

2.25 - wouldn't have a dart in a race like this, but at the prices, Mossy Fen
3.00 - this will be Easysland by a long way. Tentative pick of Little Bruce to fill a place, maybe.
3.35 - Grand Mogul
4.05 - The Bees Knees (hardly imaginative but Fergal is in fantastic form. His other shot has come in to 17/2 from 11s though so one to note). Percy's Word and Seaborn are ones I'll be noting given their potential/lack of exposition.0 -
