I also doubt he would be up against the same quality of opposition this season....soapboxsam said:Cafc43v3r said:
I would say a RB is now way down that list. Oshilaja can do a job there as cover. Despite the stick he gets he is good enough to be a back up right back in league 1 isn't he?jacob_CAFC said:So who do we need now2 x striker1 x RB1 x CBIn order of importance
As long as Oshilaja never plays at LB again.
To play 3 times in that position during the mini League 9 matches was just wrong. Ok against Hull they had a left footed guy on the right wing but he can't tackle with his left foot so why did he play there again ? Hopefully Bowyer won't have to play square pegs in round holes this season.
We will improve after this window and the next one. The quality of the two new strikers will determine if we finish in the top 6.
Agree, at RB or CB, depending on injuries or form but a lively Right winger, right wing back or right midfielder will expose him even in League 1 if he is ever a LB again.

If the user name fits!grumpyaddick said:Sorry but fail to see how Gunter is a 'great signing'.
Matthews was probably our best player for the last few games of last season and our best defender for most of it.
It looks like we have failed to to retain his services despite the new ownership buzz which seems to have fizzled out before it even started.
Our squad still looks painfully weak even for this league. When people start fondly remembering Magennis who despite his great effort, had the turning circle of a large container ship with one engine broken, you know there is a major problem.Gunter has played 400 odd games at a standard above where we are. If another league one side signed him we would be moaning that that’s the sort of player we should be getting.18 -
I read the situation that originally Matthews wanted to go elsewhere but has since realised it might be better to stay put (due to the takeover). But we have moved on, he is no longer training with us as we have sorted his position now.grumpyaddick said:Sorry but fail to see how Gunter is a 'great signing'.

Who was the guy Roland vetoed us signing after we sold KAG and went to Plymouth (I think) instead? What's he up to these days?

As the previous poster has responded Gunter is ahead of Matthews for Wales and always played in the Championship. I was gutted to see Matthews go but based on experience and stats/ appearances and managers views he is behind Gunter.
The rest of the stuff, its still only fresh we have a new owner give him a chance, we have another week and half to get signings done, judge at the end of the transfer window.
We have brought in: Norwich Defender (sorry i cant spell it)
Maddison - Proven at this level assists and goals from midfield
Watson- Experience and quality wasn't out of place in the prem, granted a while ago but still there is no doubting his quality.
Gunter - Experience for club/country
Lets see how we get on and not judge people instantly, once the squad is assembled and then start playing together we will see what we are looking at. I am quietly confident in that regard top 6, maybe top 3 if we can get some form going and striker who scores.7 -

Out of contract so agent will be working hard to get him a gig for the season. Wrong side of 30 but a good right footed CH. No doubting he could do a job for us though.ValleyGary said:Was we looking at Ryan Shotton a while back? His names appeared a few times on social media lately.0 -

Gunter is first choice international right back, picked ahead of Matthews.0 -

I'm relieved that Gunter isn't starting tonight. I can't stand it when our players get long injuries in International matches.
Plenty of Charlton games he could pick

No none of the names mentioned so far are the one I was thinking of. Have a feeling he was being released by Wolves (maybe) but my memory is fuzzy.

I don't want to sound harsh but I can't see why we'd be interested in signing your friend.Ferryman said:

Obviously he was one who went down the pecking order after the takeover.10 -
Really ??? We have one senior striker who has scored 54 goals in 8 years. While we definitely need a CB I would have thought a striker or 2 who were slightly more prolific than Washington would be the priority.Lazy_eye_metaphor said:

This season we've signed so far:
FW - Washington
CM - Gilbey
CM - Levitt
CM - Watson
CB - Famewo
LM - Maddison
RB - Gunter
We still need another centre back, another left back and two more forwards, but all things considered we're shaping up well even if it's yet to convert on the pitch...

N Williams will probably take a Championship or even Premiership loan unless Klopp wants him around. He'd never come to L1 alas2
