I voted Labour and hope we can now see the back of Corbyn but sadly I think his replacement will be even worse.
Curious to see what Johnson does given he doesn't seem to believe in anything other than his own ego.
First past the post voting system fails us again - 44% of the votes delivers a big majority. Can't really be said to be a mandate.4 -
@Southendaddick Might be fair to say that the left-wing voice seems louder on this board because they're more actively engaged in politics and in talking about it, whereas the Conservative vote isn't, but exists in larger numbers.7

Raith_C_Chattonell said:I didn't vote. I am a life long Labour voter who is now unrepresented by the party. My main concern now is that Momentum and the far left will push for another leader in Corbyn's image. Meanwhile the Tory lie of 'one nation' will continue as the rich get richer and the poor, poorer ... just as it's always been.

I think it's more the case the left are involved in shouting (and shouting down) about it, whereas Conservatives tend to rise above it, key case in point is look at how many people in these one off threads on the main board are Conservative as a proportion versus the House of Commoners subforum.4

You're right, @Huskaris. Conservatives have risen so far above it, they don't even need to engage. They have basically transcended.6 -

Agreed. In 1997, New Labour gor 43% of the vote and a majority of 186. And Liberal Democrats got 3 times the number of votes that the SNP got, yet 4.5 times fewer seats. Argument for proportional representation? (different thread).

I'm not playing a victim. I just can't see the point in arguing with 5 or 6 faceless people on a forum, because the discussion gets twisted within about 2 or 3 quotes and the point is lost. But what I'm saying us essentially Factual and anyone is free to have a browse to confirm it for themselves.
Anyway, I can't spend the next 3 hours arguing with you and your chums mate, I need to get on with some graft

Stuck to my common sense Remain principle and voted tactically to try to unseat the loathsome gravy train arselicking public school hard right whore that’s been openly self serving for a generation. His majority was dented but he remains in Westminster fellating the evil party animals as they drag our once proud nation ever more rapidly into economic disaster ruining the lives of all but the already hugely privileged.Bye bye NHS bye bye overseas trade bye bye foreign owned industries bye bye welfare state
Eat drink and be merry for come February you won’t be able to afford to
merry Christmas make the most of it cos if you ain’t at Boris’s top table it’ll be the last one
just wait and see who the Tory paymasters now manoeuvre in to replace the floppy haired shagging fuckwit5 -

I voted Labour, we lost heavily, so congratulations to the Conservative Party and those who supported them, that's the way it goes. However, Johnson said in his speech he thanks those voters who have 'lent' them their vote, and so lets see what happens. I've never supported any party getting a 'landslide' victory, even when Blair did in 97, it means there is no-one to put checks and balances on anything the sitting government want to do. Remember the 'Poll Tax' under Thatcher, she brought that in unopposed (she had a majority of 102 seats), and it eventually led to rioting in the streets and her eventual downfall.
Johnson will deliver some kind of BREXIT eventually I guess, but in 5 years time those that 'lent' him their vote will want to see if he delivered on-:
40 new hospitals,
20000 more Police (still 1000 less than 2010)
31000 NEW nurses
etc etc
If he hasn't delivered on the above, he will have only him and his party to blame for not delivering, he cant blame parliament this time. So Johnson is now either good for his word or not.....the buck stops with him. If he fails, then I suspect that'll be the end of 'lending' him votes.4 -

I don't want another election but I would like a vote on the Brexit deal as that would serve democracy.0 -
Johnson absolutely does not have to deliver on any promise.
He won.1 -

Didn’t want Brexit but couldn’t bring myself to vote for Corbyn or the Liberal UnDemocrats. It wasn’t all about Brexit or the NHS or Education or everything else for me. I just think we’ll be better off in the long term with the party that can best manage the economy. Corbyn’s spending plans would have bankrupt the country within a couple of years. Just my opinion ...
And that's just one if their mad ideas. We wont talk about wanting all employees to only work 32 hours a week. .....and increase the minimum wage at the same time. It's like the policy was drawn up by an 8 year old child. Can I have more money for less hours please.....
I do agree with the government having control over the market. I do not believe that the market should control all aspects of our society including environmental policy which is the most important policy of all in my opinion.
Although I disagree with the 32 hour week, the minimum wage is clearly too low, overwise why is there a collection for food banks at tonight's match, for example?! It's you and other Tories that need to wake up and take a look at the society that's developing around you. Once you are at home with the curtains closed and the heating on, eating takaways and watching Sky, it's very easy to ignore. Just ask yourself what future you are really voting for for your children. Will they be able to afford a home? In 20-30 years, will they be able to live a life withstanding all the disastrous effects of climate change, something that the Tories have no clear policies on at all.
I want clear positive environmental policies and I want fair workers rights.
If all that negatively affects my investments then I accept that. I do not think that money is the most important thing. I want a fair life and a clean planet for my children.
I remember saying to you nearly twenty years ago that I was concerned about the companies I invest in and that I would rather take smaller returns for investing in responsible companies.
I am looking at the following at this time (sorry that it's in French -whether in or out of the EU by the way, Europe in still nearby, and will affect Britain whether you like it or not)): https://www.lendopolis.com/comment-investir/energies-renouvelables
Just finally: I'd like to know how far you would like things to go along current policy lines. When we watched Oliver Twist, for example, did you think it unreasonable that he asked for more and that he was just a naive 8 year old child? When we listened to John Lennon, did you not, like me, believe?10 -
As a green Conservative with a small c, with a wish for a more egalitarian society i struggled to see anyone to vote for but unless David Milaband or someone of that ilk becomes Labour Leader they will remain a London and north west party as the rest of the Country including some ex mining northern areas feel no empathy with the far left.
Corbyn, a disciple of Tony Benn has been stanch anti European union since the 70's But could only say I'm Brexit neutral !
That is the reason that Traditional Labour areas didn't vote Labour this time as they voted to leave the EU.
If you learn anything from History, the far left get hammered in an election. Corbyn has emulated Michael Foot's far left Labour leadership.
Boris may be bonkers but he can deliver short sharp sound bites and now needs to deliver his many promises, hopefully someone wrote them all down in case he forgets !

If you learn anything from history you will know the Irish issue will always be a problem for the English.3

Then London is predominantly a Labour area so that might skew it from the national norm if most CL posters are Londoners. I have no idea where the majority of CL poster live so this is just me attempting to rationalise the latest score.0
