1086. The year the Doomsday Book was completed.
I'm sure there's a punchline, but I really can't be arsed...1 -
Nor me0

Not exactly a punchline but hopefully not an omen either but it took the new Norman 'owners' of England 20 years to complete their takeover ....Chizz said:1086. The year the Doomsday Book was completed.

from 1066 and the decisive battle at Hastings to 1086 when the due diligence was completed with the Domesday Book of England's assets compiled and signed off.7 -
That sounds better too “takeover abandoned as no complete version of the Domesday book of Charlton’s assets could be found. Only existing copy has several Expenditure pages obfuscated by what appears to be lipstick”0
-
There are remarkable similarities.
In 1086, Charlton had 13 villagers and two slaves. Today 13 players, and Bowyer and Jackson.
The tenant-in-chief was Bishop Odo. Now it's Roland Odd. Bishop Odo of Bayeux never visited either.
The Lord of the Manor was William, son of Oger. Now it's Tony Ogre.
Back then Charlton was worth £7. Now it's feck all.
BTW, it's a bit weird that William, son of Oger held only three properties, Footscray, our Charlton and another Charlton down near Dover.

I could have bought all of Charlton for £7......and that would have included The Valley Cafe.4

Hmmm, maybe there were no rules forbidding multiple ownership of manors until the Hundred Years War several centuries later!cafcfan said:There are remarkable similarities.

This whole Domesday thing has opened a new line of thought however, If William held three properties then which was his major holding?
If it wasn't our Charlton then did he install a member of his family at the Charlton (Greenwich) manor and could that have been his wife? Was there a Catherine de Meire who married William Fitzoger in Normandy sometime around 1050?
I'm off work today so this could run and run - it beats waiting for the inevitable disappointment of another day of no takeover news!

From a friend who works closely with the club:
Delay in takeover caused by one of Andrew Muirs investors not passing fit & proper test due to connections with a former club. Newcastle or Everton apparently.
Deal is now complete and is awaiting approval from the FA.
Won't be announced until after Norwich game.26 -

Yes I looked up the survey after I posted my question. Very useful.castrust said:50% of 928 respondents said they were likely to buy a season ticket if there was a change of ownership

If I were the Aussies I might offer a discount for a couple of weeks after any takeover, although would anyone who had paid the higher price want a rebate?
That site is really cool, thanks for sharing (the slaves thing is a bit grim though!).cafcfan said:There are remarkable similarities.

'The Norwich Game' should be a gritty Netflix original set in the murky criminal underworld of North Norfolk.23

Any idea what The Valley Cafe were charging for a Full English back in 1086?0
