The Mail are normally very pro Charlton and have a decent contacts at the club. Most of that comes down to the Collins connection, while i appreciate the fact Patrick has now retired. I'd trust the Mail on all things CAFC ahead of all the other nationals.16

Of course it's true. They had about 5 days to get him to sign on the dotted line, before Sheffield began sniffing around. If you want someone that badly you get the deal done. Roland and Katrien should have had the contract drafted before flying him over to Belgium. Amendments could then have been made over the next couple of days.2

I really cannot see how anyone with current employment could now consider the Charlton job, regardless of the cash on offer. How to screw up your cv......join Charlton for three months. Having said that there are probably some greedy sods out there after a quick wage rise.

I suspect that really Wilder knew of the interest from the Blades and either withdrew his interest in CAFC or made unreasonable demands .. we'll never know until the memoirs are written and even then the stories might be a load of old bollocks ((:>)
Wilder is a northerner, lives up north, the Blades job offer would have been a no brainer for him and Knill, another with extensive 'northern' managerial experience3 -

Let's face it, Charlton nowadays is not exactly a plum job. Whatever happened, I'm sure he was very attracted to the Sheff Utd job. Didn't he play for them and also, isn't he from up North? I wouldn't take too much notice on the spin put on it by the Daily mail.0

If you deep freeze shit to close to absolute zero? Is it possible to then polish a turd?
(Note for foreign readers this is not a racist joke relating to people from Poland but rather a querie regarding the polishing process and whether this can also be achieved at sub zero temperatures.
I did a degree in materials science and technology and am considering applying for a doctorate.
My view is you can reliably polish a turd but the expense involved and the effort means you are better off not bothering and rather throwing the ties away and getting a stone, which is easier to polish if you fancy that sort of thing.
(Have better uses for liquid nitrogen.)

They not sold players behind the managers back or brought players without relegation release clauses in them ...which again put the club on the brink of disaster ...like our friend Murray . But at the moment they are all we have as no one else despite a lot of chat have come forward , if they do and have the backing to take the club forward then fine I will welcome them with open arms.

There may be some element of the Mail's general anti EU politics at play. Wilder may have preferred the Sheffield Utd job and Charlton may have not exactly ripped the contract up. But the contract may have not included the guarantees that WIlder was seeking that was agreed verbally. Meire said that WIlder had signed a contract and that doesn't stack up either.
Lennie Lawrence did not get far with Duchatelet in outlining the control he wanted. Given the general dissembling of Meire, I think it is likely that the when Wilder pressed the issue that the guarantees he wanted were not there. Having the back of the Sheffield Utd interest, likely made it easier for Wilder to press home the question of control.That would fit in with Duchatelet finding it impossible to loosen control. Its Ochams Razor - that the most likely explanation is the one that is mostly going to be true.
We will find out if and when a half decent manager comes along and wants the same level of control that WIlder asked for. With all the story right accross the media, it is surely one of the things that will be asked.
Charlton are approaching the the first week without a manager and a huge amount of unfilled positions whilst the time ticks by and the days pass puts Charlton further behind. What a shambles.6 -
