He won promotion last year with a team that won their title by a mile. I doubt any manager could fluke that.
Both Wigan and Barnsley were bottom 4 this time last year, but both won promotion.
I should imagine there's a fair bit of team rebuilding and transition going on at Sheff Utd. They've not made the best of starts, obviously but I have it on good authority from East Stand Mike that Sheff Utd will come good - at least he's been saying that for nearly 5 years!

EDIT: And then I saw your smiley thingy .......
Not in comparison to many other teams, notably us. I imagine Bolton will have had a lot of changes as well, while teams like Walsall lost many players in the summer
The reason Wilder never joined was due to personal reasons nothing more. The fact that all his family come from Sheffield and due to what is currently going on in his life was the reason.

Please don't start this crap again we know it wasn't true. He wanted to come back to London.

He wanted to come to Charlton. He stood up for his beliefs and the way he wanted control over the club and I applaud him for that. Where Sheff Utd find themselves now is no gauge as to where we'd be if he'd have joined us and to state otherwise is comical.

Has Colin got another account...?
Looks that way, he keeps saying he has over on ITTV.

No just happen to know people within the game. They are personal reasons to Wilder.

Wilder comes from Sheffield and is a Sheffield Utd fan. All of Wilders family still live in Sheffield.

Probably a good reason to NOT become manager of sheff Utd...
Ah the mysterious contacts in the game. We all have those to a greater or lesser degree. Unless you were part and parcel of the deal and or the related conversation it is speculation upon speculation even by those "in the game".
Any such "information" is always second, third or fourth hand.
That Wilder has family in Sheffield and is a northern man but who was a journey man with 13 clubs are all factors. That the club tried to recruit him and failed is however indisputable. It comes within the competence of negotiation and the compelling pitch made to secure the main person you have targeted.
If the job offer was compelling enough domestic issues are readily put aside. Ask anyone who has worked overseas.
The delay in appointing a head coach/ manager was at best unfortunate.
We will all see how the season unfolds for both clubs and managers. As Slade has commented - the results within the first 12 games means little in respect of the season as a whole.
I'm starting to think... maybe they won't come good afterall?
Funnily enough Sheffield United haven't lost in the League since this posting back in August. They've also only managed to score 26 goals in their last 6 games whereas we have managed 22 goals in all competitions from 21 matches this season.
Good job we tore up Wilder's contract and refused to meet his ridiculous demands.

A decision that will surely come back to haunt Wilder.
A shocking 4 defeats in the last 47 League matches by sides under his management with Sheffield United top of the League by just one point and the team only playing in front of crowds of almost 25,000 - you've got to feel so sorry for those Blades' fans.
Total justification by Roly and Katy for not bending to the demands of this "pot hunter". No manager should have total control of the playing side of things - you only have to look at the lack of success by the likes Fergie, Pep, Mourinho, Klopp and Conte to realise that.
I'm happy to knock RD and KM all day long but I don't believe that Wilder was ever going to choose us over Sheff Utd. They are a much, much bigger club than us and it was no secret last summer that we are a basket case.
All our involvement did was establish that Northampton would let him leave and secure his salary a at United - I read everywhere that we pay well over the odds and he probably took our written offer straight to Bramell Lane.
His family had lived in Sheffield while he was managing at Northampton. He was never going to come to us. This is before we consider how difficult it would be for an employment contract to establish exactly who has the right to sign players. At the end of the day RD has to stump up the money and can (and does) sack managers more than any other Chairman in the league.

To be honest there are a few big clubs, there are quite a few small clubs and then there's a big chunk in the middle who are all pretty much the same - have had some limited success in their past and will get decent crowds when things are going well or for big matches. Teams like Charlton and Sheffield Utd are both comfortably in that middle bracket.

But he does seem to be struggling a little.
He's down as bexleyboy.

Disputable somewhat
Whether we could have got him over the line faster is a different discussion and one we will never know the answer to.
