Think he is a very good player and we will miss him if true.

As it stands we don't have a single center back under contract besides youth/reserve players.

    Rio Ferdinand in as replacement?

A good player but certainly not irreplaceable .
The question is will we replace him or will RD promote a youngster ?

Disappointing. He's a tough player who formed a very decent partnership with Morro, who may be the next to leave. Neither of them will be easy to replace.

Dorian was very good for us, when he was given a chance. However he is not irreplaceable in the way that Poyet is. I want to know which youngsters are expected to come through next season. Patience is going to be a virtue (wish I had some) over the coming weeks. Keep the faith everybody.

Hugely disappointing, seems he was a major reason we collected so many clean sheets in the second half of the season. Should have been signed up much earlier.

Hardly bodes well that we'll be seeing significant investment this summer.

He's had a good end to the season and established himself with Cort out of the equation with injuries to both him and Wood but was not first choice until Riga arrived. I liked him and I'm sorry to see him go if Crawley is on the money but we move on as the decks are being cleared for the new Manager / Coach to build on. When CP signed 23 players in the summer of 2011 that didn't turn out too bad did it :-) Onwards and upwards COYRs

My concern is that I was told by a very good source that the factors influencing Poyet's decision over whether to stay or go were the manager and evidence of squad strengthening.

We all know there is a long way to go but right now there are two big question marks over both areas. We can wait (we have to) but Diego may decide not to.

Glad i have held off from purchasing my season ticket, until i see what our squad is looking like. So far there has been no rumours, no contract extensions, no news on who is leaving except Hughes. Every other club seems to have released their lists of players that are leaving. Begs the question is anyone actually doing anything there at the minute? Or has everyone gone on holiday at a pretty critical time!

Sorry to see him go, thought he has been excellent recently, and until the final few games was one of our top scorers ;)
In all seriousness he's got a knack of being in the right place for a headed goal and has been good playing out from the back.

Powell inherited a basket case and did a superb job of transforming the playing squad on a minimal budget. Duchatelet inherited the core of a good squad that required minimal strengthening - so far he has removed some of our strongest players and replaced then with rubbish.

If this is the case then it is a blow, but the trouble is we don't know what's going on in the background. It may be that RD is not willing to pay huge wages in the face of players and/or agents effectively holding a gun to his head. "Pay me what I want our I will leave". We know RD has an eye to FFP and the wage costs and is looking to the long term rather than the short term.
Note, I'm not saying I agree or disagree with that approach - just that I think this is where we are at, like it or not.

Funny move, but then we've only given him 2 one year contracts, so it's not as if shown great enthusiasm for him in the past.

Yes, it's hard to expect loyalty when we've been unsure about committing to him. We did pretty much rescue his career from obscurity though.

For L1 Powell had a very good budget, the likes of Wiggins, Morro, Taylor, Stephens. Hollands etc didn't join because they'd always dreamed of playing for Charlton...

No manager, loads of contract uncertainty around key players. I'd probably go too. If we see a continuation of Roland's January management we're in for a very long summer.

I'm sure I remember him saying in an interview he liked 1 year contracts and actually preferred them.
More than likely just saying that as it was what he got but maybe the 1 year thing was always his choice.

Although he said recently he wanted a long term deal at cafc, did he not?

I hope this is journalistic rumour rather than substance.

Poyet, Morrison, Hamer and Dervite are the out of contract players I'd like to keep.

    Very disappointing.
Hopefully not the start of the mass exodus that many are predicting.

    Thanks Tony and Michael,

Your brilliant "strategy" of not signing up players is reaping its rewards

    : - (

This of course but their exit strategy by then was to get out. There were few players that they judged had a value and so were trying to clear the decks.

You asked when they took over what was their exit strategy. When Cash pulled his cash out, it left them bailing out the very leaky ship that was sinking fast.

It is why we should be circumspect about takeovers imho.

I am respectful to RD and thus far, by design or by luck, he has steadied the ship. The next few weeks and months will be a litmus test as to his stewardship.

With a goal difference of -20 (MINUS TWENTY) I would have thought any defensive player would be under scrutiny.

FFS, reading the Evina thread you would have thought he was Roberto Carlos....

DD was alright, but not much more than that.

Hopefully it's because we are confident Gomez will sign/step up.

Either way it's a blow, but always likely to happen when you have players OOC. The thing that's disappointing is that with their financial problems I doubt Bolton will have offered him big money that we simply couldn't match.

I wish someone would explain to me why we are letting this happen. Dervite says he wants to stay, we (the fans) want him to stay, and he's a decent, champ player... Why let him leave for free?

We will have to wait and see whether Dervite, Morrison, Hamer, Gomez, Sordell and Ajdarevic are wearing a CAFC shirt or not next season. I doubt all of them will and at the same time it is unlikely none of them are.
It makes sense that Poyet who was man of the match virtually every game wants to play in a top half team and not another relegation scrap. So his decision might rest on the shape of next seasons squad.
One can blame the previous owners but to balance that we will also see ten players depart this summer who are nowhere near the first team.
This summer is an opportunity which comes up once every three years to rebuild the squad. If CAFC and its representatives are unable to re-sign any of the first team regulars then one would have to question whether it is lack of budget and/or experience.
For this reason alone I believe the club would be wise to put out a statement advising fans of the general direction they wish to go in.
The less they say, the more people will speculate.
In summary I'm not worried if Dervite goes elsewhere but I will be livid if we don't see a step up overall for the squad! Why would Poyet and Gomez sign up for a club that doesn't want to compete in the top half?

The same reason as Kermorgant. We've probably offered a deal, Bolton have offered more, we can't match the offer, so he leaves.

I agree D. but there were plenty on here making excuses for and repeating TJ and MS's spin of the great "let your valuable players contracts run down strategy". The obvious flaws were pointed out then but dismissed as "agendas" : - (

because he is out of contract, and has most definitely has either been offered a better deal with Bolton, or has the certainty of knowing there is a manager there that rates and wants him, when he doesn't know who the manager will be here.
