Well, he tries to forget it! A great win albeit against a very poor Blackburn side indeed .. our 'troubles' look as nothing compared to theirs. Church has found confidence through his international form, Stephens is playing out of his skin alongside Cousins, Wood has improved the defence massively .. just a few examples .. Powell has found the personnel, shape and tactics to suit us .. our season starts here .0

A poor side who have been doing well at home of late! To accumulate points in this tough league you need to be able to find a bit of quality when needed offensively and be solid at the back. Apart form Burnley, we have been in every game and it is sometimes the lack of concentration that has cost us.
On paper, defensively we are strong and hopefully we can build on this. If we can get th ebalance in our favour,m we will start to pick up wins. What concerns me is at home to the sides who play like we did against Blackburn. I am not convinced we have cracked that element.
No way we should even be thinking about relegation though!0 -

I don't think you can say he 100% used his arm or 100% didn't. I look at the defenders and keeper - they didn't seem to complain much!0

Exactly, Muttley - after the game the manager sees the film footage shot from a high angle well behind the ball, and makes an assumption.
If there had been even a hint of handball at the time, their defenders would have surrounded the ref.
Not a whisper of protest.

But isnt it the same shape that got us on a good run last March after the Scumwall debacle with Stewart in for Harriott? It's a balanced back four with all players playing in the correct postitions. Probably Powell was trying to find the optimum set up for the team in terms of both players and tactics. You can't blame him for trying new things even if he was a little slow in going 'back to basics' when his experiments went haywire.JonnyK said:

The dynamism of Cousins has to my mind allowed him to play Stephens in a defined attacking role and to use Harriott/Stewart as a potent attacking force with two strikers. So perhaps the experimentations have brought new and unexpected bonuses in the shape of new players but contained within, as you have said, a reversal back to tried and tested successful tactics.
Also, as has been said by a few of us, Wood's emergence as a reliable and consistent defender has had a very positive impact on the team, not least on Hamer. When all is said and done, the coherence between central defenders and goalkeeper is one of the most important aspects in the genesis of a successful team.0 -

Looks like their fans are more realistic than their manager, with some sensible comments and praise for us as well. Just reading down those comments, it looks like I missed a bit of a nasty story about Colin Hendry. Bowyer picked the team and came up with the game-plan, which clearly didn't work. So the result is he's responsibility. Their midfield was easily contained, their pattern of play nullified and Rhodes had no service. He was outdone.
Blackburn would have had us watched in the last two games, in which we used the 4-4-2 Diamond. Prior to that, we lined up in a 5-3-2. He was caught out by our change of tactics and is trying to deflect attention away from that. With the owners he's got, I don't blame him.0 -
