    Last month, the Daily Mail reported Charlton had made an approach to sign Fukuda, who is out of contract this upcoming January, on loan with an option to buy.

    However, Kyoto Sanga are believed to prefer a full sale of their player this summer.

    News on the Japanese right-wing back had gone quiet, with Jones renowned for not being keen on answering questions on ongoing transfer pursuits in his press conferences.

    However, EFL Analysis football correspondent Graeme Bailey understands the Addicks are still ‘looking’ at the Kyoto star, who reportedly needs to be playing regularly in Europe to push for selection ahead of Japan’s World Cup campaign.

    “He’s literally out of contract in less than six months, that’s the thing,” Bailey said. “So, unless Kyoto drops their valuation or forgo the release clause, I think it’s possible Charlton will just wait until January and get him for nothing then.

    “It is possible before deadline day, and Charlton are looking, but Kyoto needs to change their mind first.”

    Its an odd stance from Kyoto, as surely they know that we can talk to the player now? - So we'll have a bloody strong indication whether he wants to join us at all.

    No skin off our back, as the saying goes... if he doesn't join until January... We wont be the ones losing out on a transfer fee.

    Ah that makes sense... I didnt realise they were top of the J-League, they've almost got a Wycombe / Kone stance then.

    It must be challenging to conduct business between England and Japan, they have their own way of doing business. It's easy to trample through cultural norms that you didn't know where there.

    I was once working with a Japanese director (filming an ad). And after a few conversations, they refused to speak to me for the rest of the three day shoot. I'm still not sure what I did.

    Cawley said they're probably working through an intermediary so you'd hope they'd be sensitive to anything like that

    If Fukada needs to be playing regularly, why would he join us where he would be backup on the right hand side?

    He would get his share of starts. Maybe 20 plus 20 off the bench.

    I can guarantee Ramsay and Apter won't be able to stay fit all season, and when Ramsay is unavailable I'm not sure the system works as well, and when Apter is unavailable there's no natural replacement on the right either and suddenly it looks quite one paced and not very creative. From what I've seen of Fukuda's highlights he's more defensive than Apter but more attacking than Ramsay, so could be a good fit

    Not sure if it’s worth dropping 800k now on a player who’s not going to exactly change the outcome of our season for 6 months. Not exactly desperate for him especially since we have Apter we have TC who can do hybrid role whilst also having JRC and Ramsay who brings more defensive stability in that position as well. Way I look at it that’s an extra 15k a week for a year that we should be putting in for a new Ramsay contract. Not to mention we always have Asiimwe who’s smashing it for the dons as well

    Simply offering him the money is no guarantee. Can offering him all the money in the world but if he has aspirations to play prem then it’s not going to matter

    Also who's to say Fukuda will be on 15k a week? The whole point of signing players from abroad is usually because it's cheaper to do so, and as they are unproven they usually get lower wages and more of it based on performance bonuses

    800k for the transfer fee = 15-16k a week for a year. Just thinking there’s probably a better to way to use 800,000 for a player we could get for free in 6 months time who isn’t going to be a guaranteed starter in this side

    Looking at it they're currently having the best season in their history. Generally a side who jump between the J2 league and the J league and after spending a decade in the league below have finished 16th, 13th and 14th since winning promotion. So for them to be top of the league with 12 games to go is unheard of, so i can totally see why they'd probably want to keep their squad together.

    Fukuda also scored the winner in their game last week.

    Agree, unless we buy another CB which seems unlikely to me

    I really like Alex and bit sad that he's gone.

    I get that he needs games and that he's back up at best but he was a solid enough player for us and always gave 100%

    Plymouth are in a mess so I'm sure he'll play every week.

    I would guess so.  With Burke injured we don't have much cover at CB and Zak can play in midfield too.
