Will stay up for the afternoon session as I like to see the ball crashing into & over the boundary. Once these 2 are out I'll probably go to bed.

Hoping we can get to tea with some wickets intact.

Shame they didn't feel they had the money to pay for the rights. Dont seem to like overseas Series.

And now they are lauding the fact they will have the rights to show Europa League football in 3 years time. Note.....not Champions League though.

Seems like I'm the only 1 up now.......

Only 23 overs bowled in the morning session.......and the afternoon session starts at 4 minutes past the hour.

NOT the way to make up for a slow over rate.

For those that are interested, my eldest (the sports trader and not the player/coach) thinks that Starc at 12/1 to be crowned the Player of the Series (Compton-Miller Medal) is a bit of value. He's almost certain, bar injury, to play four of the five Tests and if the ball does dominate the Series then he has to have every chance of being not just the top wicket taker for both sides but picking up this award too.

    POTS best prices:

    Smith (S) - 15/2
    Root - 8/1
    Brook - 10/1
    Stokes - 11/1
    Starc - 12/1
    Khawaja - 14/1
    Head - 14/1
    Duckett - 14/1
    Labuschagne - 16/1
    Boland - 16/1
    Lyon - 16/1
    Archer - 18/1
    Crawley - 20/1
    Green - 22/1
    Hazlewood - 22/1
    Atkinson - 25/1
    Cummins - 25/1
    Weatherald - 25/1
    Smith (J) - 28/1
    Pope - 28/1
    Carey - 33/1
    Carse - 33/1
    Wood - 33/1
    Tongue - 50/1
    Bethell - 50/1
    Webster - 50/1
    Bashir - 66/1
    Abbott - 80/1
    Jacks - 80/1
    Potts - 80/1
    Inglis - 100/1

That 12/1 on Starc is looking quite big at the moment.

Can’t be dealing with the negative predictions
they are ageing and yes at home but I believe with the correct attitude and belief they are for the taking.
Root to wipe their smiles off
We are due a win so I’m going 1-3

I admire your positivity but I'm not quite sure why you (and so many other people) are jumping on the age factor? Australia haven't been defeated in a Test series for almost three years and haven't lost one at home for five years. Since then they've won 27 and lost 8 Tests home and away and it was only ten months ago that they beat India 3-1. There will come a time when, individually and as a group, age will catch up with them but I'm not sure that they've quite reached that point yet.

Much of the criticism of Australia is based on their underperforming batters and a batting order in total disarray, albeit that one or two of their big guns appear to be finding form at the right time and in home conditions too. Ours are at the complete opposite end of the spectrum, so far as experience is concerned, with Duckett, Bethell, Brook and Smith never having played red ball cricket at anything higher than club grade out there. Of the others, only Root (35.68) has an OK average in away Ashes with Crawley (27.66), Pope (11.16) and Stokes (28.61) hardly enjoying the sort of record to frighten the Aussie bowlers on their home turf.

Cummins is a big loss for them but we really can't afford to dismiss Boland's record at home - 49 wickets at 12.31 apiece with 18 of those wickets coming against us over there and another 21 in a series against India at the turn of this year. Equally, Doggett has taken 13 wickets at 14.69 this summer in the Sheffield Shield.

I hope I'm totally wrong and we thrash them but I do think that 3-1 to the Aussies is about right. That First Test will set the tone for the series and for that reason it is vital that we get out of the blocks running. At least we are blessed with not having Steve Harmison bowling the very first ball of the series.

Aside from Ashes predictions, it is great to hear that Ollie Robinson hasn't reacted like a scorned lover in not being in the England set up in taking time off from playing club cricket to bowl in the nets at Steve Smith. That's sure to mend broken bridges. With the Aussies anyway.

We have to find some hope from somewhere mate! Let us have a little bit at least before the series starts, deep down we all know that come lunch on the first day it'll all be over but until then lets believe!
Not quite "all over" but never a truer word said in jest!

The legside trap has been set for Brook. He's still going to take it on because that's the way he plays.

The irony is that he's out actually pulling out of taking it on.

We're scoring at more than five an over which is highly commendable as long as we aren't all out in a couple of sessions because Australia will look to bat for two days and run our bowlers into the ground. That's Bazball for you and the only way of stopping that is bowling them out cheaply too.

It'll be a lower score for both sides because the boundaries are massive and the pitch is heavy but we've been poor.
