  • Why are people rattled by Wycombe fans singing? It was standard back and forth. We were in the premier league and we definitely did fuck it up.
Wasn't rattled, just thought it funny the only thing they could "banter" us with was our status 17 years ago, before a lot of our fans were born!  As I said next verse "FA Cup winners and you fucked it up".

"You're shirt and you know you are" would have been more appropriate :)

Some proper laugh out loud moments in this one, nice work mate!
  • Very good performance today. Think we need reinforcements to make play offs.

Two good finishes by Leaburn. Second one is very tough for a tall player to get ball out of feet quickly but was a very composed finish. Showed real class. Unusual to see a 6,6 player who is so athletically built and has an element of abiity on the ball. He is a long way from a finished article. Almost every part of his game can be improved but the potential is huge for a guy with his physique and athleticism.

Defence looked very well organised and we look so hard to break down at the moment. On the ball, still lacking quality in open play for the most part but TC's pace gives us an out and Small adding to the attack.

On a side note, that Kone looks the real deal. Think he'll be playing in Premier League within a couple of years. He's a cut above strikers I've seen in this division.
Kone is being linked with Luton! I'm sure Nathan can give them a match report on him.
Phil Chapple was there yesterday in the directors box (oooooerrrr) taking notes (Luton scout now and Ex Addick )

It was mentioned that Luton were interested in Richard Kone which shows what a six months he's had since playing in the Essex league.
  • Wycombe were singing something about chairboys and some wanderers chant but may have been the same one .
From halfway line they were louder than us until we started winning and the contest got feisty !

It doesn’t bother me but I don’t understand why the response isnt 🎶 premier league, you’ve never been there 🎶 or even 🎶 championship, you’ve never been there 🎶 depending on the opponent

We thrashed them yesterday and I left wondering how we didn't score more. Their goal came out of nothing - Mitchell & Coventry having a brief mix-up and both following the runner, leaving Kone free to cut inside. That wasn't even really a 'chance' and they didn't create a genuine opportunity all game. It was a really good performance front to back.

NJ clearly didn't intend us to play this system before the season started, but it's worked better than his original plan, and credit to him for finding a way forward (or for stumbling upon it, depending on your perspective). The problem is, I can't see how some of the players fit into this new-look team. Godden, for instance - can't play TC's role offering width and he can't offer Leaburn's presence. We could probably play him as a 10 but that could end up leaving some holes defensively, and it hasn't worked before.

I like this new team and it's done the impossible and given me some hope. But it does feel paper thin, both the hope, and the team. One injury to a wide player and we lose our shape and threat. We don't have another striker who can do what TC does. And Ramsey is a great defensive wingback but can't offer Small's dynamism.

NJ will surely be forced to rotate sooner or later, and it will be interesting to see how the plan adapts.

For now, I'm actually enjoying watching us again. That's a massive bonus because I thought it was going to be another season of endless misery.
Godden is a goalscorer, his role can be to come on from the bench when we need a goal. He’s done it a few times this season. Him and Aneke to come off the bench would be ideal and we saw that early in the season
Except I'm not convinced Chuks still has that trick.

  • TBF Wycombe Wanderers isn't a name that lends itself to song.
  • At least with that we might be able to bolster the team in Jan… with Miles probably heading for the door as well
It’s objectively impossible for both of those things to happen at the same time.
    Sell Miles, sign Salah.

Haven’t read this thread. But what a nasty, horrible little team they are. They targeted Miles early on and he got no protection from the ref. Their number 2 was a disgrace, always in the refs ear, constantly moaning, fouling etc. Their number 3 was the worst, he nearly snapped Miles’ wrist (well that’s what it looked like from the north lower). Horrible team who got everything they deserved today. We stood up well to them, didn’t allow their bullying tactics to work. Although miles did go after that no. 3 after the incident and got a yellow!
"Nearly snapped his wrist". LOL. Hilarious.
It was a bad and dangerous foul. Right in front of me so I could see just how bad.

Where's the lino when you need him?...oh yeah, hiding under the refs skirt...🙄
  • Credit where it is due to Jones and the players. They’re turning round a pretty bleak period and it was great to see them all celebrating together when we scored. It did feel to me like Jones was losing the dressing room so happy to see o was maybe wrong about that.

Just one thing re Jones. I get that he wants to protect the team publicly and feels he is the right person for this job. Hopefully that will prove to be the case but some of his comments regarding the fans- ‘vilified’, ‘catastrophic’ need tempering. The fan base was perfectly within its rights to question tactics, effort and results which went against us before Christmas. I don’t think he should be creating a ‘them and us’ culture by using hyperbole.
Jones is without doubt cranky but then so is Mourinho.
Ian and Janette Tough are Crankie's too
Ian and Janette Tough (the Crankies) were staying in the same hotel in Tenerife as me in April.

I think its more that they only seemed to sing about us. I didn't hear much about their own team to be honest?
They seemed pretty vocal early on and after they got one back.

They weren't the loudest, but it is Wycombe so I wouldn't really expect them to be.

  • Ahadme did have a couple of good defensive headers in our own box late on tbf. Not really what you’re looking for in a striker, but played his part in defending our lead

    Cheers matey!
  • Sore throat, hacking cough( and you know what that invariably leads to...thank you Tena Lady) meant the Fanackapans watching the stream today...lightweights.

I have now been reduced to an over the moon, but blubbering wreck.

Well done to those who braved the chilly morning to cheer on our lads and were the 12th man/woman. And apologies once again to our neighbours whose relaxing, quiet day was disturbed by intermittent screams around the 50 minute mark. Even the dog put his paws over his ears....

What a brilliant performance! THIS is why football has been called The Beautiful Game.

Just what has transformed the hoofers into brave, ball playing maestros ? And what a controversial but successful team selection by the gaffer ! Brickbats have been aimed in his direction of late including those from East Sussex but it seemed that man was NOT for turning...until the 2nd half of the Mansfield match showed us a glimpse of what was to come.

We now look a like a TEAM. Everyone playing for each other...and reaping the benefits.

Eleven MOTM awards should be given today. Plus a cheeky one for NJ. All SO deserved.

And an Oscar for Alex M for his Jason Pearce impression which gave us a well deserved breather !

Thank you, Charlton. You've made an old gal very happy. Long may it last.

Is it too premature to state with some confidence that " We have OUR Charlton back " ? <3
Blimey. Talk about going over the top, Fanny. I doubt you’ve been drinking or on drugs so I can only conclude that it’s due to watching so much shit recently.

I watched my first match on Charlton TV for a few months. I thought the first half was pretty average from both teams. Then in the second half there were périods where we were entertaining, almost all of which involved Tyreece Campbell,  and other times when we passed the ball well from défense and around the midfield.  For the first time in ages I felt that the entire 11 played well. The problem is seeing this squad beyond those 11 as promotion contenders. Anderson had bad ball control and Adehme was a lazy sod. I don’t know if he has the ability but he didn’t do the running to press their defenders as required from an attacking sub.

Ahadme was all over them like a rash.
I don't see it. I think for how much his fitness was credited when we signed him, and that he's a machine, his press is awful and he looks tired when he comes in.

I can't imagine any centre back of any quality would feel much pressure with Gas closing you down. He's so slow at it.

Still hoping he miraculously gets good, but he's a total dud so far. Only thing he's ok for is when Leaburn is subbed off, he replaces his physicality in the air slightly, being generous.

'Ally Pally at The Valley' was quite the event... Not one person in fancy dress and those 'dart boards' at the end of the fans bar looked like they cost a pound each.
    Probably BOGOF...

Remember when we were in our prime off_ it ?

When watching the game live on Sky and seeing the normally quiet Miles so animated I thought it was what we used to call a "Chinese burn"  Apologies to anyone with Chinese heritage or anyone married to anyone with Chinese heritage but I'm not sure the correct term in 2024.
I assume that's why Ducktape went with "snapped Mile's wrist 🤔

Etymology is a minefield and one has to tread carefully.
Please don't say housemaids knee or tennis elbow 🤦🏻‍♂️

Doesn't read the game, just chases the ball, never in the right place to receive it. Like me when I played and I was useless. It's not laziness.

Big shoutout for the ref, who in the last 10 minutes gave everything to them. Also restarted the game with a free kick to them when the ball went out for a throw, during the Leaburn incident.
The foul given against Jones was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen. Literally right in front of him, perfectly timed.
If anyone wants to see it again, Jones' reaction says it all 😂
