First half was a yawnfest. Second was great entertainment. Not the greatest quality but I think the terrible pitch played a part in that. 10 out of 10 for endeavour from our whole team today. Why have we not seen more of that? Wycombe were a disappointment. Just shows that this league is generally poor. We have been pants for the most part but the playoffs suddenly seem possible. Funny old game.
Good, they were only off it because we set up to stop them yet still counter attacked. The starting 11 for WW, may become clear when the window opens. I disagree the 1st half was a yawn fest. I was so impressed with our shape and the way we limited Wycombe. Excellent 2nd half where we played with nous and gave passes for Leaburn and Campbell to run on to.
I thought we were excellent from the start and said so to my mates. I thoroughly enjoyed the first half and loved the second half.
Haven’t read this thread. But what a nasty, horrible little team they are. They targeted Miles early on and he got no protection from the ref. Their number 2 was a disgrace, always in the refs ear, constantly moaning, fouling etc. Their number 3 was the worst, he nearly snapped Miles’ wrist (well that’s what it looked like from the north lower). Horrible team who got everything they deserved today. We stood up well to them, didn’t allow their bullying tactics to work. Although miles did go after that no. 3 after the incident and got a yellow!
"Nearly snapped his wrist". LOL. Hilarious.
You laugh, Off_it, but I had to watch from home today and you could see Leaburn holding his hand and when he got up and lost his head a little he was screaming at the ref “he’s tried to break my arm, is he mad?!”. When you watch it back, the 3 had clamped miles’ arm between his own body and arm and yanked sidewards whilst Miles’ arm was the other way. It was naughty and I thought the 3 was a sly little tosspot
I haven’t watched it back, but don’t let your opinion get in the way of Off_it ‘s sly dig at me … LOL. hilarious man he is
I like the look of Kone worth a cheeky high bid... With Ahadme as a swap on top.
Changed the game completely. He looks a real player. Shame we didn't notice him before they did, as he's exactly what we need up top to compliment what we have.
Carries on the way he is, and he is destined for the championship, minimum.
Also thought Caleb Taylor was really good for them today who I think we were linked with before? Those two stood out for me.
I’ve seen Taylor play a few times against us and in other games and he’s looked class everytime. Today was his first loss of the season! Good chance he gets recalled as I’ve heard West Brom have a bit of an injury crisis at CB. Wycombe will lose Morley as well. Based on what I saw today and them losing 2 key players, I think they will be in the play offs rather than top 2
Terrific patient team performance and two great goals by leaburn. How some people want him to leave is beyond me.
Can't remember the last time we won two home games back to back. And typical couldn't make either due to transport and work commitments but managed to watch on a stream.
Keep it going 7th now.
I don't know where you seen anyone wanting Leaburn to leave because I haven't. I've only read/heard the complete opposite.
@Chippycafc is correct on this one. More than one poster here, especially in post match threads after games where he was struggling. And plenty of others asserting that his departure during this window is all but inevitable.
Yes, I've seen plenty thinking he will be sold and wouldn't rule it out myself. But I missed the posts of people wanting Leaburn to leave.
Hugely enjoyable game. Decent performance in the first half, very good in the second half and a good atmosphere throughout. The improving trend in both performances and results continues.

"Sly dig"?
You said he'd nearly snapped his wrist, which you've since admitted was over the top.
If we are to have any chance of the play offs, which still seems unlikely but possible, we have to keep Leaburn, Small , Jones (especially), Ramsay (don't know what Ramsay's contract is). Extend their contracts and pay them !!

It wouldn’t take too long to find them, in the threads after the games pre-Northampton. But no point in going back and picking on individuals (except poor old Golfie of course😉).
What a piss poor pitch. I thought it was meant to be a state of the art pitch with this new stitch together grass. I know the ladies play on it as well but it shouldn’t look like that 5 months in. It’s only going to get worse. As for the game what a great battling display by everyone. That’s how we should try and play every week. I’m not sure we will be able to hang on to Lloyd Jones as his contract is up in June and today's opponents are looking to sign him. If they don’t offer him a decent contract he will be gone and we will be playing catch up in the transfer market. But you know what this board of directors are like. But well done Charlton let’s enjoy the moment.
If Jones is sold to Wycombe I’ll be more than surprised. There will loads of Championship clubs after him.
He is such a key member of the team I’ll be gutted if he goes, but if he does it’s vital he’s replaced by someone equally aerially dominant.
Was thinking of going today but I did my back in a couple of days ago so gave it a miss. Serves me right for being a wuss. Hopefully this will continue for the Crawley game and I can enjoy being in attendance for a win for the first time since Birmingham.
Also some of their lot seem to have let their high position go to their head. Don't think I've ever read such crap about why they lost from any other team.
I've seen a lot worse on here when we have lost. Lots of comments that we deserved to win. Also agree with them that our pitch is awful in the modern day game.
During the game their response to "Top of the league, your having a laugh" being "Premier League and you fucked it up"" was laughable, presumably the next verse would be " FA Cup winners and you fucked it up".
Wonder what their history is with NJ. A few comments calling him the Rev. and Reverend.
Wycombe arrived at the Valley this festive season having only lost one on the road all campaign, full of confidence and sitting second in the table. But Charlton have been performing well over the holiday period themselves, starting with the same eleven that have won back-to-back victories. The two sides pushed and pulled for the first half hour with Charlton having the better of the opportunities and Wycombe looking organised but contained. Luke Berry had a couple of chances in that period, one of which he should have done better with, but it was Miles Leaburn who picked up where he left off to open the scoring. Another Josh Edward’s long throw caused issues and Leaburn stuck his leg out past his man to drive in his first goal of the afternoon on forty six minutes to take the Addicks into the lead going into halftime.
The second half started with the Addicks building in confidence. On fifty-two minutes Leaburn struck again as he broke free into the Wycombe half and, seeing the keeper in no-man’s land, skillfully lobbed the ball over and down into the back of the net to put Charlton two to the good.
Charlton were in complete control and Wycombe looked devoid of ideas. Leaburn, tired and on a yellow, was taken off for Ahadme, with Karoy Anderson also coming on to refresh the centre of the pitch. Wycombe had made quite a few changes themselves at that point looking for a bit of inspiration. That came from Richard Kone, Wycombe’s top scorer, who found himself with space in the box and curled a shot past Maynard-Brewer to set up a tense final fifteen minutes. In hindsight, Wanderer’s supporters will surely be asking why he had been rested. While Wycombe gained confidence from the goal, it proved only a consolation as Charlton were determined to see out the good performance with all three points.
We’ve returned to being well organised at the back and difficult to beat. And we’re now scoring more freely. The squad should have a bit of confidence going into the back end of the season, poised to make a playoff push. Three wins on the bounce take us up into seventh place in the table, up from eleventh before kickoff. So, all in all, the Addicks are finally pointed in the right direction. Will we be in a position to strengthen in January to ensure things stay that way?
Charlton 2 Wycombe 1
Over to you.
I’m I the only one that thought it was 0-0 at half time and Leaburns first goal was at the start of the second half?
I missed the first 60 minutes as I thought it was a 3pm. Only when a mate messaged me at 2-0 did I switch on. Sadly I only saw their goal, but thought we looked solid and untroubled by a very in form team. I feel reinforcements are essential to get us on track for a play off spot. The owners know enough by now. Interesting and potentially exciting weeks to come.
At least with that we might be able to bolster the team in Jan… with Miles probably heading for the door as well
It’s objectively impossible for both of those things to happen at the same time.
Really! Miles played very well today..in the second half ..but don’t believe for a second he’s not replaceable… and I think he wants out and up… so time to deal with reality … what matters is how much get’s reinvested… performances like today will help that price at least… I still think he is limited receiving the ball to his feet..
I struggle to see the truth in that idea mate. The fact he's been out injured for so long is what makes him seem replaceable. You can't replace a 6'7 striker who can hold up play, run in behind, take men on, score with their head, score with both feet and also drop deep, turn and play precision through balls (like he did for TC's first against Northampton. That's why he's so highly rated.
Replaceable? We would more likely replace him with another Stockley.
100% . Leaburn will be on the radar of all the top sides because his potential ceiling is very high. Does he have lots to learn still? Yes. But if he manages to learn it all he will be an almost complete striker and they are very rare, even at the top of the game. Such players are also highly prized when most top flight sides play with a maximum of one centre forward these days.
Utterly fanciful to suggest we’ll be able to easily pickup someone with his broad range of physical and technical strengths, especially so when we are stuck at this level. If by some miracle we did then, at the very least, we would have to expect they will be even more raw than Leaburn is.
Our best hope is that he sees the value of seeing out this season to get plenty of game time to get over his injury and continue to learn how to deal with clogging centre halves. IF we can get promoted with him, then we might be able to get another year from him at Championship level, or maybe a loan back deal from whichever bigger team eventually picks him up.
I seriously question the judgement of anyone who can’t see that this boy is well on course for a Premier League gig within the next year or so (and maybe much sooner).
The big difference for me over the past few games has been Berry playing as the advanced midfielder. He should have scored today and put the lovely ball through to Leaburn. He's always looking to get in and around the box and looking to get shots away.
He's obviously also being a good influence on younger players, as Leaburn mentioned he went for the lob yesterday, as he see's Berry trying it all the time in training.

Could be why TC tried one in the first half (Although it didn't get off the ground!)

As Prague has said, there has been plenty of grumbles about his pre and post injury performances. You hear it in the stands/trains and forums etc. I even have a mate who thinks he is totally useless but finally had to admit "he took his goals well" yesterday. But he still wants him out in January.
I haven't read any of the previous pages. Back to back to back wins now and against a good team. Leaburn took his goals well, I thought the first one being the better, a strikers goal. There was a decent cross and then he has to get his body in there with a nice touch. Everyone always, including myself, likes goals like the second. Nice ball through, beats the offside, a sort of one on one with a defender and then lobs the keeper from the corner of the box. I'm sure that was not easy and Leaburn showed good skill and composure but what the heck was their keeper doing? He could not make a challenge and he certainly left a huge target behind him. I don't know if I'd say he was our best striker, I would probably say he is our only real striker. As its Monday morning and I feel like a moan, what the heck is wrong with that pitch? That company that was on the main site and posted on here back in the summer was supposed to be experts. They should have left the old one down and grown a few dandelions, at least the pitch would have been green.
And as the post match thread meanders to its usual close, in the bywaters and cul de sacs of pitch maintenance and interfan rivalry based on grudges going back to 2010 and references to players not seen since 1999, we say goodbye once again, eagerly awaiting the New Year and what must surely be a cracking match against Crawley.
People say AMB should’ve done better for their goal in the players marks.
Am I the only one who thinks he had no chance of saving that?
No, I agree. No chance - it was just a superb piece of play from Kone.
I feel for AMB. Playing behind a decent defence instead of that crock of rubbish we had last year he looks a perfectly decent keeper at this level. But sadly there are some who just seemingly want to continue to criticise no matter what he does.
Glad Kone wasn’t playing from the start.
What was the reason he was on the bench? Game losing decision potentially for Wycombe.

So where is the dig, sly or otherwise?
I think NJ is sufficiently irritated by us questioning him it may work in our favour.
Great win.
A great end to Christmas schedule.
