Leaburn got a snarky snide elbow from their 3. Got him on the wrist but was aimed at him at his guts. No wonder he lost his head (like his dad famously did in the '88 Battle of Stamford Bridge).
Wycombe really go out of their way to be annoying, I got great pleasure from that win. The points were secondary. The FB Grimmer was wingeing first half and in the "ref's assistant" face. Then 2nd half that black haired defender pulled a snide foul on Leaburn that enraged him, and I thought when he gave some back he was going to lose his head and the game for us. Outstanding performance from Leaburn he took the brunt of heavy treatment from their defence.
All in all Wycombe's attitude didn't help them with the ref- I think we got the best of his erratic decisions on the big moments.
Miles Leaburn has been a godsend for Berry(and charlton). If Berry played that ball through 100 times and it was Ahadme chasing it it would result in a goal zero times.50 times the defender would have caught him up and taken the ball. The other 50 Ahadme would have stopped and passed backwards.Berry (and charlton)had no chance early in the season with that donkey up front
Credit where it is due to Jones and the players. They’re turning round a pretty bleak period and it was great to see them all celebrating together when we scored. It did feel to me like Jones was losing the dressing room so happy to see o was maybe wrong about that.
Just one thing re Jones. I get that he wants to protect the team publicly and feels he is the right person for this job. Hopefully that will prove to be the case but some of his comments regarding the fans- ‘vilified’, ‘catastrophic’ need tempering. The fan base was perfectly within its rights to question tactics, effort and results which went against us before Christmas. I don’t think he should be creating a ‘them and us’ culture by using hyperbole.
Jones is without doubt cranky but then so is Mourinho.
At least with that we might be able to bolster the team in Jan… with Miles probably heading for the door as well
It’s objectively impossible for both of those things to happen at the same time.
Really! Miles played very well today..in the second half ..but don’t believe for a second he’s not replaceable… and I think he wants out and up… so time to deal with reality … what matters is how much get’s reinvested… performances like today will help that price at least… I still think he is limited receiving the ball to his feet..
I struggle to see the truth in that idea mate. The fact he's been out injured for so long is what makes him seem replaceable. You can't replace a 6'7 striker who can hold up play, run in behind, take men on, score with their head, score with both feet and also drop deep, turn and play precision through balls (like he did for TC's first against Northampton. That's why he's so highly rated.
Replaceable? We would more likely replace him with another Stockley.
100% . Leaburn will be on the radar of all the top sides because his potential ceiling is very high. Does he have lots to learn still? Yes. But if he manages to learn it all he will be an almost complete striker and they are very rare, even at the top of the game. Such players are also highly prized when most top flight sides play with a maximum of one centre forward these days.
Utterly fanciful to suggest we’ll be able to easily pickup someone with his broad range of physical and technical strengths, especially so when we are stuck at this level. If by some miracle we did then, at the very least, we would have to expect they will be even more raw than Leaburn is.
Our best hope is that he sees the value of seeing out this season to get plenty of game time to get over his injury and continue to learn how to deal with clogging centre halves. IF we can get promoted with him, then we might be able to get another year from him at Championship level, or maybe a loan back deal from whichever bigger team eventually picks him up.
I seriously question the judgement of anyone who can’t see that this boy is well on course for a Premier League gig within the next year or so (and maybe much sooner).
The only thing that stops Leaburn making it to the top is injuries. If he has more luck with injuries he will be a premier league footballer

Fair play to both Berry and Leaburn, in the stadium I thought Leaburn was offside but watching the highlights on YouTube he’s definitely on. Really well timed pass from Berry, well timed run from Leaburn and the finish is sensational. That goal should add another half mil onto his price tag!
Was thinking of going today but I did my back in a couple of days ago so gave it a miss. Serves me right for being a wuss. Hopefully this will continue for the Crawley game and I can enjoy being in attendance for a win for the first time since Birmingham.
Also some of their lot seem to have let their high position go to their head. Don't think I've ever read such crap about why they lost from any other team.
I've seen a lot worse on here when we have lost. Lots of comments that we deserved to win. Also agree with them that our pitch is awful in the modern day game.
During the game their response to "Top of the league, your having a laugh" being "Premier League and you fucked it up"" was laughable, presumably the next verse would be " FA Cup winners and you fucked it up".
Wonder what their history is with NJ. A few comments calling him the Rev. and Reverend.
Could it be a rivalry between Wycombe and Luton? Not quite sure of the geography. Luton would have played Wycombe on their way up so maybe he pissed them off in a specific game
It is what it is, but it comes to something when beating Wycombe Wanderers at home is seen as a scalp!
But that’s classic League One. There always seem to be a couple of teams that get it right, whether it’s recruitment, coaching or tactics, or a combination of all three. It’s net easy to buy your way out of this league, as many clubs have found, so being well run and well managed is key. Perhaps Wycombe fall into that category more than we do. The fact that we were in the Premier League 17 years ago and have a relatively large stadium doesn’t really mean that much. In fact at times it feels like it paints a target on our backs that motivates the smaller clubs more than the bigger clubs when they come to the Valley - hence we beat Birmingham, but lose to Crawley.
Docherty and Coventry work rate yesterday was incredible. We are beginning to play a way of football that gets our midfield involved and it’s no surprise they look better players.
My only concern with the Crawley game is that we haven’t rotated in this festive run. Leaburn looked knackered at the end, can he go again on Wednesday? Ideally we can just keep the same team but I do just worry that with Leaburn especially we don’t injure him by playing him too much
Should be ok though, we’ll be playing our 4th game in 11 days but for Crawley it will be their 4th in 9 days and their second half collapse yesterday might show that it is already catching up with them
Very good performance today. Think we need reinforcements to make play offs.
Two good finishes by Leaburn. Second one is very tough for a tall player to get ball out of feet quickly but was a very composed finish. Showed real class. Unusual to see a 6,6 player who is so athletically built and has an element of abiity on the ball. He is a long way from a finished article. Almost every part of his game can be improved but the potential is huge for a guy with his physique and athleticism.
Defence looked very well organised and we look so hard to break down at the moment. On the ball, still lacking quality in open play for the most part but TC's pace gives us an out and Small adding to the attack.
On a side note, that Kone looks the real deal. Think he'll be playing in Premier League within a couple of years. He's a cut above strikers I've seen in this division.
Kone is being linked with Luton! I'm sure Nathan can give them a match report on him.
Phil Chapple was there yesterday in the directors box (oooooerrrr) taking notes (Luton scout now and Ex Addick )

Fair shout on Leaburn, but you have to hope that the new head of medical fella is all over him like a bad smell in terms of monitoring his breaking point. I can't believe (although conversely it wouldn't surprise me at all being Charlton) that they'd run him in to the ground and risk another injury

Given the opposition fans for a few of our games this season, I dont think there are many clubs that Nathan Jones hasnt pissed off lol!
Feel much more positive after that than the Cambridge game . Yesterday felt like a real meaningful match , stomach churning , the aggyness factor and hanging on at the end I loved it . Also big reward for those fans who have the ability to not need to eat , drink, smoke, sniff or wank round the back at half time . They’re all possible from your own seat and you get to see the early goal as well . Not forgetting a miserable effort at the crossbar challenge and his mate had nominated him 🙄

Personally, I think keeping the same starting eleven is reaping the rewards for the players. They are getting used to each other being there, literally from the kick off, instead of having to work out where everyone is for 45 minutes and where they should be because of constant chopping and changing of line ups.
as for Leaburn, I thought he looked a lot fitter yesterday. He’s been playing like he came back too soon from injury. That he’s scored in 3 consecutive matches is remarkable. Yesterday was a turning point in his fitness imo.

Sore throat, hacking cough( and you know what that invariably leads to...thank you Tena Lady) meant the Fanackapans watching the stream today...lightweights.
I have now been reduced to an over the moon, but blubbering wreck.
Well done to those who braved the chilly morning to cheer on our lads and were the 12th man/woman. And apologies once again to our neighbours whose relaxing, quiet day was disturbed by intermittent screams around the 50 minute mark. Even the dog put his paws over his ears....
What a brilliant performance! THIS is why football has been called The Beautiful Game.
Just what has transformed the hoofers into brave, ball playing maestros ? And what a controversial but successful team selection by the gaffer ! Brickbats have been aimed in his direction of late including those from East Sussex but it seemed that man was NOT for turning...until the 2nd half of the Mansfield match showed us a glimpse of what was to come.
We now look a like a TEAM. Everyone playing for each other...and reaping the benefits.
Eleven MOTM awards should be given today. Plus a cheeky one for NJ. All SO deserved.
And an Oscar for Alex M for his Jason Pearce impression which gave us a well deserved breather !
Thank you, Charlton. You've made an old gal very happy. Long may it last.
Is it too premature to state with some confidence that " We have OUR Charlton back " ?
Blimey. Talk about going over the top, Fanny. I doubt you’ve been drinking or on drugs so I can only conclude that it’s due to watching so much shit recently.
I watched my first match on Charlton TV for a few months. I thought the first half was pretty average from both teams. Then in the second half there were périods where we were entertaining, almost all of which involved Tyreece Campbell, and other times when we passed the ball well from défense and around the midfield. For the first time in ages I felt that the entire 11 played well. The problem is seeing this squad beyond those 11 as promotion contenders. Anderson had bad ball control and Adehme was a lazy sod. I don’t know if he has the ability but he didn’t do the running to press their defenders as required from an attacking sub.

They were an odd bunch, I dont think I heard a chant from them all game that was actually about them, or supporting their team. They spent most of the game trotting out the usual "football in a library", "<insert score here> and you still dont sing" etc, generic away fan bravado bollocks.

Unless he's feeling something (there's the joke bullet, anyone firing the gun? ) I'd imagine given his own scoring steak and the team performances he'll be gagging to play both games? If he does, I'd think his minutes would be more useful against Reading and as a sub for the Crawley game? Personally, I do hope he's good for both.
Driving home yesterday, hearing Crawley were in Exeter and their second half collapse back to 4-4 I was glad they had a long journey home to negotiate. Not charitable for this time of the year I know, but I want 5 wins in a row and we're already more than half way there!
I agree with everyone on here who has called out the whole team and some noted individuals for their performances........ I just wanted to call out Gillesphey though as I've not been his greatest fan since he joined....... but I thought he had a stonking all-round game yesterday and I will definitely feel better next time I see his name on the team sheet!
