great result - missed the 1st goal along with everyone else waiting to be served in the fans bar - but who cares - brilliant display and made a good team look poor
"Asked NJ about Small at RWB:
NJ: "Someone sent me a nice little Christmas card asking me not to play TC at right wing back. We don't want to play TC at right wing back but we haven't got an option there. We've asked Thierry, he's been wonderful and I'm proud of the kid.""
A great idea to pester managers via the medium of Christmas Cards
Dear Nathan
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Please have Kanu on the bench to stretch tiring defences.
Excellent performance. Workrate and pressing was phenomenal from the front two and midfield. Back five solid oke but thought Jones and Edwards were exceptional. Leaburn's second was a thing of beauty, outstanding finish. And thought Miles did well to keep his head in the face of some provocation, was worried he might have got himself sent off. Should of been more emphatic had TC shown a bit more composure. However, that's nitpicking. Credit NJ for turning things around. Need to keep up that level of performance now. Woke up this morning feeling shit but so glad I dragged myself down to The Valley. COYA.
Would I be right in thinking we haven't dropped a single point all season when in a winning position? That ability to see out games when we are winning is definitely a massive improvement this season.
First half was a yawnfest. Second was great entertainment. Not the greatest quality but I think the terrible pitch played a part in that. 10 out of 10 for endeavour from our whole team today. Why have we not seen more of that? Wycombe were a disappointment. Just shows that this league is generally poor. We have been pants for the most part but the playoffs suddenly seem possible. Funny old game.
People say AMB should’ve done better for their goal in the players marks.
Am I the only one who thinks he had no chance of saving that?
No you are not. He had no chance at all. Sitting in the AC stand Kone used the defender as a shield to curl it round and into the corner. Excellent strike. No blame at all on AMB.

Sometimes you just have to say "good goal, that"...
First half was very dull, just kept it tight and stifled Wycombe successfully.
two great goals from leaburn and after that we looked great, should’ve tied it up, until the scored and after that we played poorly tbh, kept giving possession and set pieces away and made it more nervous than the previous 70 minutes of them not laying a glove on us suggested it needed to be.
Wonderful goals from leaburn especially the 2nd, 2 days before January!
Very bizarre, we’ve been rubbish 85% of the season, but beaten both Wycombe and Birmingham and suddenly back in the play off mixer. The next couple are crucial; the Birmingham win preceded an absolutely appalling run of results and performances. We need to now back this up with a controlled win against Crawley otherwise it’s a waste of time.
i think Jones has stumbled slightly fortuitously upon the system with small on the offensive at RWB which makes such an enormous difference; our CMs offered little attacking threat but who knew that having a player or two who actually want to try and create something, try and get to the byline, try and cross, try and shoot, makes us harder to defend against. Let’s hope he learns from this and keeps working on the offensive side of things so we are going after 3 points in every game.
Wycombe arrived at the Valley this festive season having only lost one on the road all campaign, full of confidence and sitting second in the table. But Charlton have been performing well over the holiday period themselves, starting with the same eleven that have won back-to-back victories. The two sides pushed and pulled for the first half hour with Charlton having the better of the opportunities and Wycombe looking organised but contained. Luke Berry had a couple of chances in that period, one of which he should have done better with, but it was Miles Leaburn who picked up where he left off to open the scoring*. Another Josh Edward’s long throw caused issues and Leaburn stuck his leg out past his man to drive in his first goal of the afternoon on forty six minutes to take the Addicks into the lead going into halftime.
The second half started with the Addicks building in confidence. On fifty-two minutes Leaburn struck again as he broke free into the Wycombe half and, seeing the keeper in no-man’s land, skillfully lobbed the ball over and down into the back of the net to put Charlton two to the good.
Charlton were in complete control and Wycombe looked devoid of ideas. Leaburn, tired and on a yellow, was taken off for Ahadme, with Karoy Anderson also coming on to refresh the centre of the pitch. Wycombe had made quite a few changes themselves at that point looking for a bit of inspiration. That came from Richard Kone, Wycombe’s top scorer, who found himself with space in the box and curled a shot past Maynard-Brewer to set up a tense final fifteen minutes. In hindsight, Wanderer’s supporters will surely be asking why he had been rested. While Wycombe gained confidence from the goal, it proved only a consolation as Charlton were determined to see out the good performance with all three points.
We’ve returned to being well organised at the back and difficult to beat. And we’re now scoring more freely. The squad should have a bit of confidence going into the back end of the season, poised to make a playoff push. Three wins on the bounce take us up into seventh place in the table, up from eleventh before kickoff. So, all in all, the Addicks are finally pointed in the right direction. Will we be in a position to strengthen in January to ensure things stay that way?
Charlton 2 Wycombe 1
Over to you.
*Editor’s note: Leaburn’s goal to open scoring occurred at the beginning of the second half, not in the first! It was level at halftime.
Who's this Miles chap? What's happened to Marcus Leaburn?! Another season-ending injury?

Good, they were only off it because we set up to stop them yet still counter attacked. The starting 11 for WW, may become clear when the window opens. I disagree the 1st half was a yawn fest. I was so impressed with our shape and the way we limited Wycombe. Excellent 2nd half where we played with nous and gave passes for Leaburn and Campbell to run on to.
Very good win. The return of Jones and Miles has made all the difference. And it shows what you can do if you use the width! Plus, 3rd game in a row that we’ve had the same starting 11. Are things starting to settle down! Hope so. Now, don’t mess with it Jones. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

Well we had 46% possession in first half and 1 shot on goal each. In second half we had only 25 to 30% possession, but we had more shots on target than them.
I've watched it and he is placed to expect a shot straight at him, it's a very good shot and even if he takes on step to his left in anticipation, I doubt if he would have saved it.
Difficult to use a past tense in a prior post to refer to events that haven’t happened yet but, given the goals since the post, I am happy to change the original post to
crawley were doing rather well themselves today but in the end only managed a 4-4 away draw.
Great performance, TC really needed taking off around 80 mins as he had run himself into the ground, but with no DK on the bench there were no options. Hopefully he can recover in time for Crawley
Leaburn got a snarky snide elbow from their 3. Got him on the wrist but was aimed at him at his guts. No wonder he lost his head (like his dad famously did in the '88 Battle of Stamford Bridge).
Very happy with that performance - apart from a spell of 15-20 minutes we completely nullified them. It wasn’t until Kone came on then they looked dangerous.
Everyone played well today but special mentions for Edward’s, Leaburn and Coventry they were my stand outs. Doc is also progressing nicely in a position more well suited to him.
The atmosphere in there isn’t toxic when we play with effort and try to play on the deck - I said the other week after Northampton, beat Crawley and we are right back chasing that pack. We also then have Reading who are 6th at home and aren’t on the best of runs currently.
Don’t muck around now Jones stick with what works, the season isn’t over yet!
Probably our best performence this season. Now time to see if Charlie and whoever else owns us want to try and kick on. I'm not apologising to Nathan Jones just yet as he still has a loads to do, but we have improved last few games so well played the boys and Nathan. Glad were not playing hoof shit anymore but we need more players with pace and an attacking midfielder big time.
If we do however sell Leaburn in January they can all fuck off and so can everyone on here who try and justify it
Fantastic result and more importantly part of a decent run. It takes guts to admit your tactics aren't working and a lot of ability as a coach to suddenly change what you're training the players to do without it all going horribly wrong. So credit to NJ from me. More of this, please.

It's mandatory to criticise something even when we win !
You can see he had defenders in his way from the excellent strike by Kone.
