  • Can we get anything for Chuks?
I went into Halfords and asked if I could get a windscreen wiper for a Lada. The assistant said “that sounds like a fair swap“.
  • Bromley would be a good shout for Dixon maybe, if we loan him out. Or a non league team so we can recall him if he's shithot

Bromley (or any club) would have to really need him. No point him going there and getting 5 mins here and there. Send him to Hendon....we've just lost our 15 goal left winger and I have no doubt Dixon would get masses of game time.

Dixon is still probably settling into the UK. Training with the first team and playing for the U21 will be much better for his development than shipping him out to non-league. He isn’t physically ready for it yet
You say that, but he is pretty much walking that league with his goals.

He is 20, so still has time to develop. Only thing is he is competing with academy players such as Kanu.

So it would be only logical to go on loan to somewhere like Welling. Local, but gives him experience for a league in the lower tiers.

We brought him for the future not the present.
I think next year that could be an option. The club will obviously know better than us where he is at, but I’d think there would be a risk of him being bullied in non-league and losing confidence. Its probably already been quite a daunting experience for him moving across the world at a young age, putting him in a non-league dressing room where he knows no one before he’s probably fully settled in the UK could be quite a risk.

I think I’d keep him around the first team and playing for the 21s this season, with a full pre-season this summer to get him ready for league football. He could then go straight into our squad though, as Scoham says he might not need a loan if he is really that talented but I think this next pre-season will be the one that gets him ready

Let’s see how he gets on in the Annual pre-season Welling kick about then.
Why so impatient? As Scoham said, he might not need the loan at all. He may appear before the end of the season in the league for all we know.

I trust the coaches and staff that have been handling young pros development for years to get this right.

When was the last time we sent a promising young kid with first team appearances to Welling?

I meant like Welling, or maybe league two. He seems too good for the un 21 and we are out of (most of) the cups. Maybe I misjudged the room when suggesting loaning him out for the final half of the season.

Look if we are honest we have just won 2 games, going for a play off push, and expectations are high. I would be worried about putting that pressure on him (plus Kanu is pushing up through the team as well and has scored a goal this season) while he is still developing.

If we are writing off this season then 🤷🏻 I retract what I said before.

I don't mean to discredit our development team with that comment (though I would defend the fact Danny Hylton is a player/coach and don't like comments that say Hylton should go)
  • Maybe a loan would be best, none of us really know how he’s settling, how he’s looking in training etc.

You say it’s only logical that a loan is the next step but there’s no guarantees he plays even if he did go on loan to L2 - look at Zach Mitchell last season at Colchester.

Attacking players often thrive off confidence so what’s the problem with having him banging them in regularly for the U21s and slowly integrate him into our first team?
  • I am one who is very mindful of the route forward for our academy products.
If the right loan out can be sorted for a player not quite ready yet, but is still a good prospect then fair enough. It certainly helped with Scott Parker and Karlan Grant. However a curious factor is to what extent Parker or Grant or whoever would be getting in the way of a player at that club.
Turn that around and consider loans in. To my mind they have to be obviously and significantly better than the players we already have here, including and especially those in the academy. I mean Fiorini as a recent example, or Lua Lua another, simply took the place of better players we already had at the club
This business of only getting a loan if you guarantee minutes to the parent club is one I don't like at all. Maybe that is de rigueur these days and it is something Nathan Jones doesn't like.
I frequently find myself returning to the question of why have an academy if it isn't to produce players for us?

I mean there were 3 academy players starting yesterday and another on the bench so I don't think it's a case of not producing the players. The route is still there to make it into the squad.

Kids had enough change as it is, moved from Jamaica less than 6 months ago and is getting used to a more professional environment. Even a local loan would confuse him as Welling/Dartford would be a totally different beast

Agree, can’t see getting kicked about by a 35 year old non league journeyman doing him any favours. I think the U21s is the best place for him at the minute.

Bloke on Reddit saying we are looking at Ali Al-Hamadi. Can’t see it as he’s played in the Prem this year.
Came on as sub against Arsenal, so that'll quash that rumour.

Or Ipswich might be looking to bring a couple of strikers in, in which case they'll want to ship Al-Hamadi out until June.
