From the Dutch top flight as well. That's what billionaire owners do.
What’s the implication here? Do you have issues with the money our owners have spent so far?
Post comes across like a kid having a moan that another kid a few doors down got their Christmas presents a few days early. You have no idea if he’s any good!
Maybe let’s wait until Feb 1 to see how much we do or don’t spend ourselves.
Rewind a year and the same post was about Carlisle doing their business early. The same Carlisle that are heading towards non league
Sign good, fit, motivated players who improve our squad.
Where they come from, the level they are at or how much of a fee is paid and whether perm or loan is secondary to "will they help us win more games?"
While the ideal maybe a free or cheap permanant signing who is young and with potential for development/resale, it would be foolish to limit ourselves to such a narrow selection if there are others available to make us better.
Well that's disappointing! I woke up to 47 unread posts on this thread and thought there must be some rumours. Sadly no rumours whatsoever just people arguing about an unheard of Dutch player and who our owners should be looking buy, but not one rumour!

And we went on to make 6 permanent signings and brought in 3 loans.

I think fair play to Braziliance for having a strong view, and be willing to actually name names, and have alternative solutions and ideas - instead of just moaning.
As ever personally I think football is not as black and white as people think, and within every transfer policy and process there will be players that end up performing well and players that don’t.
I do feel like it’s a lot more difficult to get it ‘right’ in the lower leagues, because the difference in talent between players is smaller and so many different variables have to be taken into account.
As I said in the last post match thread, the position of Rotherham and Peterborough in the league shows that this league, as ‘crap’ as it is compared to premier league, is not easy, and no one has a divine right just to do well.
It’s very easy as fans for us to moan, and say we should sign player ‘A’ or player ‘B’ - but the reality is it’s not as simple as that - and we’ve seen plenty of examples of players performing well at one club but not an other - and vice versa.
In the past I’ve been critical of us not really signing players to be able to play a certain formation - but then this year we kinda went all in on a 3-5-2 and now lack any width. But there’s only a finite amount of money and it’s very difficult to assemble a squad who can play various formations perfectly.
Whoever we buy in this window, for me they have to be able to go straight into the first squad. But at this time of year it’s very difficult to get people of that kinds of quality, unless you want to spend massively - and then if you do that and the player turns out to be a dud or makes no real difference you get crucified for it.
for me, whoever we sign, whether wingers or more central players, they have to have pace and be able to go past people / create / offer an outlet - we don't need any more ball winners

Exactly this. I’m not massive fans of the ownership but they have spent money. The players brought in this summer like Berry, Doc and Godden will be on good wages. Spent fees on Gas and Mitchell.
Getting angry at the transfer before it even starts is laughable 😂

Agree, though the only exception I’d make to that is a better left sided CB would be a very good addition. Gillesphey is fairly average and Potts doesn’t seem likely to take his place.
I had a ramble about it on the Charlton podcast, Charlton Chronicles, the one thing I don't want to see is us signing championship players. Unless it's a loan who is hungry to break into the team to be acknowledged by his parent club.
Whenever we sign these championship rejects, they usually fail to deliver. All our best business in league1 recently, has mainly been picking up standout players for a cheap fee from clubs around us or below.
Alfie May, CBT, the snake, Lloyd Jones, Ricky Holmes, Dobson.
I don't know what these scouts and recruitment specialists are paid to do, but I question their experience and football knowledge. Cause if we have one of the highest budgets in the league, and we can't identify the best players in this league then we have some serious issues.
Far too much cash splunked on has beens and players who don't have the character to play for this club.
And yet signing Championship rejects seems to be Andy Scott’s only strategy, leading to two of the most disappointing seasons in our recent history.
Scott does not chose the players we sign thars 100% down to Jones now
Utter rubbish. If you’re right this SMT have offloaded all accountability onto Jones. That is extremely weak leadership and smacks of self preservation above success of the club. That is so damaging, taking big salaries but having no accountability. Shameful!

Yes, agree re Gillesphey but that position would be further down my priority list - assuming Ramsey comes back soon, i think our best defence set up is edwards - mitchell - jones - ramsey. 5 at the back puts pressure on small, edwards, ramsey to get forward and beat a man but i don't think they can do that with any ease - they've had a go but rarely happens - small was 'locked up' after the first 25 minutes against cambridge. Ramsey is a super player but like edwards, should concentrate on a full back role - not sure what small's best role is if i'm honest - useful squad player for me atm.

Agreed. The reality is that they work as a team. Scott or others might suggest x. Jones might say, no thanks I don’t think he will improve is.
Jones might say I would like another 35 year old ex Luton player and Scott says, okay!!!
I would be surprised if there wasn’t regular scouting meetings where potential players are discussed. Jones might have more input than Appleton and one person might have a final say or deciding vote if needed but to keep saying Scott doesn’t decide, it’s down to jones is laughable.

Plus Scott wouldn't have enough of a job left to actually stay in full time employment would he.

To be fair, If a kid a few doors down has got their Christmas presents a few days early I would have absolutely furious and rightly so.
LCB I wouldn't be against using a loan slot on. Not a fan of Gillesphey and I doubt we extend Potts although he looked solid in that Orient debacle.
Surprised we havent seen Potts since
Unless there is some appearance clause where if he appaears again, his contract gets extended
I would have expected him involved either Boxing Day or today even if it was on the bench. Weird situation that NJ refusing to talk about injuries doesn't help with.

A Colin Powell or John Robinson type would be a great idea. But we don’t make them like that anymore.

And this is exactly how I think it works. Otherwise Scott is surplus to requirements. Scott should still have been hoofed out six months ago.
Given how we're playing at the moment it would be nice to find upgrades on Berry and Allan Campbell with the latter sent back - Hopefully the fact that Campbell hasnt been involved in the last two matches is a sign that might happen.
But its also damning on him that we've needed to see out games, and havent called upon him.
Berry is doing damn well, but does feel like Age is catching up on him, and would be better in the impact role a bit like Anderson at the moment, as we saw how Berry can change things... e.g. vs. Barnsley.

I don’t disagree. I bit to a certain poster saying it’s jones and only jones

The exact two positions we need (to give us more creativity).
Just hope we bring them in early whilst we’re still within touching distance of the playoffs.

Out of contract this summer I think so Posh will definitely want to shift him on.
