Charlie says squad size to be cut, only a few new players in
“Both the technical director and first-team manager say we have too many first-team professionals at the moment. There is only one main training pitch and the maximum number of players you can get on to it at any one time is 22 – at the moment I think we have 27 first-team professionals. And then another 12 to 13 U21s, several of whom have played first-team as well.
“The vast majority of the squad, touch wood and god willing, are fit. So there are too many players. Nathan wants the right kind of competitive tension, on the one hand, but, on the other hand, that everyone feels they have got a chance of making the first team.
“There is the need for a bit of pruning. Is there a desire to make a couple of tweaks in the right areas? Again, that is the advice we’ve been given by our football professionals – that they would like to see one or two new players come in. But it is very much in that type of realm as opposed to more of a wholesale change.”
Worst thing that'll happen to Hylton I think, is he'll retire and just become a coach.
Be a nice way for him to sign off now, didnt have the best of times at Northampton, one last hurrah with the Manager he's had the most success with, and it ended with getting a bit of "revenge" on Northampton in the first place.
Didnt really matter in the end as he scored against them, but think the only real inclusion of Hylton in a match day squad that I've not overly liked was Saturday where he seemingly got on the bench ahead of Kanu, who was out doing sprint drills with Potts so not one of those out with a sickness bug. Unless of course Daniel had been unwell earlier in the week, felt better by Saturday and just wasnt risked.
So even if he stays on as a Player-Coach till the end of the season, I dont care, unless as well he's taking up the budget... Which I equally doubt, as dont think Jones would genuinely put "mates" above things like that if push came to shove.
No thanks on Cornick, we don’t need another squad striker.
He can play out wide but if we’re going to bring in a winger or two I’d rather we went for younger energetic players with pace. I know Northampton were awful but playing a mobile front two in TC and Leaburn, with Small pushing forward to make a front three made a real difference.

Agreed - more pace out wide and up top has to be the priority - we might even find some of our existing midfielders become half decent playmakers
dartford boy, now bumming around in Fulham’s u23s after a decent season at Wigan last year.
We could have signed him when he was at Dartford but, as always, we “knew best and had better in the academy.”
he can play anywhere up. Front as a wide man or a second striker. He has pace and trickery as well as confidence to take a man on. Has all the attributes we lack and him an TC as the wide forwards would be a handful
Interesting shout: No top 4 tier team had taken a chance on Godo as it was the month of his 19th birthday when Fulham signed him after seeing him play for Margate.
Wigan rated Martial Godo enough to play him when ever he was fit and he played 35 odd games on loan including two assists against Charlton in our 3-2 win !
Aribo was a late developer and only came to Charlton after his academy football had finished and playing men's football at Staines Town.
I have seen so many young black 'wingers' in either youth or lower down in the Pyramid and Kwadro Baah is still the most impressive as similar to CBT he has two good feet, pace and strength. Playing regular for Watford now after a set back in training when an over zealous team mate broke his ankle with a bad tackle.
I understand CAFC saying we had similar but who can progress and has the mentality to overcome adversity or gain the strength and stamina to succeed is tough.
Tyreece Campbell is getting there but every quiet game and some 'expert' will say he's shit.

Hylton has to stay at least for Northampton at home in April, guaranteed a goal!
That’s worrying ! If they are planning on offloading that many players I can’t see how that will happen as apart from Jones, Small and Leaburn I can’t see many options for anyone else and if we lose those 3 we are bang in trouble
The window opens 2 weeks today! So not long to wait to see what, if any, recruitment work has taken place. I'd like to think that we hit the ground running and don't wait until 1/2 way through the window to change things! However with Scott in charge, I'll not hold my breath!!
Scott not in charge of recruitment Jones is.…. one if our targetsis Daniel Crowley Notts Co and a perm striker on loan
If Scott is not in charge of recruitment as you allude to....why is he still here and being paid? He does fuck all else!
Edun and Potts will surely go. Who else? Assuming we bring two in I suspect there would need to be 3-4 others.
For money? Small. Jones
For loan? Asiimwe Dixon
Others? REG? Hylton and A Campbell are both pony but Jones seems to like them.
Jones wont be leaving, Hylton will go back to coaching once we have enough strikers fit to fill the bench... But the players really like him as we saw when he scored

If we sell Lloyd Jones then we deserve everything we get. Without him this is a squad that will do well to avoid relegation.
And to think there was a not a too insignificant number of fans claiming he was nowhere near League 1 quality because he misjudged a bounce last season.
Not a dig at anyone, just pointing out how quickly players can fall in and out of favour with the fanbase.

never has an “else” been more superfluous
Because once Jones identifys his targets.. Scott does the talking to agent and club… .. Rodwell looks after the financial side of transfers
I have no issue with Hylton remaining part of the squad. Seems to me that he is a coach registered to play...he's played more than planned because of the injuries to the front line.
my personal take is that Cornick was the one player I wished was one of ours, BUT that was at the time when playing for Luton a few years back. However, what is he like now? Is he the same player?
Not against signing Cornick, but I always looked at Luton's side and thought "they have an eye for a player", the likes of Cornick, Berry, Potts, were good signings for Luton signed when they were early to mid 20's.
My hope for Jones was that he would go and look for the next generation of those players, rather than just signing them all when their in the 30's hoping to recreate Luton from 4/5 years ago.
Less of the Berry/Potts type signings and more of the Kayne Ramsay & Alex Mitchell types.

I really hope not.
Plus Edun moved on.
Potts will be probably not get his contract renewed.
It wouldn't shock me if both Taylor and Ashley are offered out. Both have had the opportunity to be put in the shop window.
That's 5 players that would trim the squad. Ideally, both REG and Gilleshpey would be sold and Allan Campbell sent home.
A new striker, a new keeper, a left sided CB and an Attacking midfielder.
Not a dig at anyone, just pointing out how quickly players can fall in and out of favour with the fanbase.
Godden too when in the right set up.
Let's no pretend none are good because most have been poor
