  • It’s honestly impressive how good Wrexham’s marketing has been, leading to knock on effects like this at a League One away game.
Alternatively you could say the same about our marketing. Set aside a huge amount of tickets for Red White and Black Day, start publicising the game early and saying tickets are ‘going fast’ (particularly after a huge chunk of freebies have been set aside), the early publicity and talk of big crowds creates interest and FOMO, momentum builds and you can put out extra things like ‘20k tickets passed’ (not sold).

No idea if that’s what happened but I suspect it’s played a big part. No denying though Wrexham are providing a wider interest premium this season, Orient had a 200 bigger crowd v them than they did for the Boxing Day game v us, and Rotherham just had their clear biggest home of the season v them.
A lot of that is surely down to Wrexham having a large away following, partly because they're a club on the up, but also because they're playing at this level for the first time in 20 years.

I'd imagine that for most teams this season two of their biggest home gates will be against Wrexham and Birmingham. Especially when more than half the division don't even average 1k away fans.
Yeah I think Wrexham have sold about 2k so far for what is probably one of the biggest and best away days since their owners have taken over, so whilst that'll help not sure it can be put down to that.

    It’s only Wrexham FFS!

If we don’t beat them I’ll certainly be a bit miffed. 🤓

Seriously? Check the table, it doesn't lie.  We've played well in two games so far this season plus we'll be without Jones and Ramsey.

Early on in the season i know but Wrexham have the 2nd highest average away following behind (obviously) Birmingham.

I don’t get the Wrexham love in . They have a good record at home sure but their squad is ageing .Three ex Addicks , two who didn’t particularly impress while with us  . I’ve seen them twice on the box this season and their best player by far has been their keeper Arthur Okonkwo.
Their attacking players in Fletcher , McClean , Lee , Palmer and Mullin have a combined age of 163.
I expect us to win .

Birmingham have a bigger away following (biggest in league), are the biggest club in the league this season, yet we saw 400 LESS home ticket numbers in comparison to the Blackpool game.

Saturday home numbers (ST’s, match sales, comps) minus away sales this season have been:

    Orient - 13,207
    Bolton - 13,028
    Rotherham - 12,953
    Blackpool - 13,474
    Birmingham - 13,095
    Stockport - 12,469

So for the Wrexham game (despite premium pricing that probably hurt Birmingham sales), we are already 5,000 tickets plus on every other game this season, will probably end up about +7-9,000.

    It’s almost impossible to comprehend.

Just shows that fomo (fear of missing out) and advertising are powerful tools. A lot of people have taken an interest in Wrexham, and I suspect a lot of these tickets being sold will be neutrals saying to friends that they're going to watch the Wrexham game, rather than the Charlton game.

It's very sobering seeing us appear like the B side to Wrexham. More or less all my mates (not many mind) have referred to this as a big game for us.

The good news is, if we stuff them, it will draw a lot of positive attention to us. The downside of course, is if we are on the wrong end of said stuffing.

I am not surprised in the slightest.
The interest Wrexham bring can’t be underestimated. As an example I was abroad on holiday in June and as it was the Euros got chatting to some Americans about football. They knew nothing apart from what they had seen on Wrexham, they hadn’t heard of Man United, Liverpool or Man City but only knew football through Wrexham. Also as soon as the fixtures were out fans of other clubs I knew were asking about coming to watch Wrexham. I am not sure how Charlton have sold tickets in home areas but they will undoubtedly be many fans bringing friends, lapsed supporters and football tourists.

This is pretty wild considering those sides play in the US almost every summer and 2 of them have American owners. Surely even if you don't like football you've at least heard of them.

A lot of the world won't like baseball but they've surely heard of the Yankees and the Red Sox.

    Hollywood glamour.
  • I couldn’t believe it either Chris if I hadn’t heard it myself. The reach that series gave Wrexham is unbelievable, wonder if they’ll be filming at the Valley for new material.

They will be filming every game as they usually have clips from big moments that happen. Wouldn't be surprised to see an owner or two over too given that it's London

Millwall are away. They'll be thousands of them.
  • This thread has proper made me laugh, Wrexham was always ging to generate the most interest this season, even with what Bormingham have spent this was always going to generate the biggest crowd, it is the away game that most people want to go to and we will take very big numbers even people going without tickets. I have no problem with the crowd whoever they are, but be mindful if there are Wrexham fans in the home area albeit neutrals taking a interest it won't end well.

Genuine Wrexham fans can still buy tickets in the away end.

Agreed its given me a good laugh, either whingers complaining we may get too many people or that young people enjoy youtube and a mix of snowflakes have a fit because people like having a beer at the football "oh no i had to stand up for a sum total of 45 seconds to let people out"

Would that have anything to do with three straight defeats leading up to the Birmingham game ? not sure if it was but the third of those defeats, at Bristol, the team and Manager put in a performance that would put even the most hardy off, there was also the 'we are gonna get stuffed' factor leading up to the Birmingham game.
  • Sales currently at 20700 I'm told.  Should be a good atmosphere and would be lovely to put one over the Hollywood mob but also make a statement of intent
