Big western fan. Ask me tomorrow, there'll probably be a couple of changes as so many good films

Rio Bravo (basically the same movie)
    El Dorado (              "                         )
    Support Your Local Sheriff
    Blazing Saddles
    True Grit   (old one)

  • High Noon
    The Searchers
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
    High Plains Drifter
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

That's off the top of my head, there will be many more.
  • The Man who shot Liberty Valance
    Bad Day at Black Rock
    The Searchers
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
    High Plains Drifter
  • How can you limit it to 5? Good to see bangers like Unforgiven, The Wild Bunch, The True Grit remake and Hostiles on lists so far. Of ones not listed already I'd say 3:10 to Yuma (the remake), Hell or High Water, Slow West, First Cow, and The Good The Bad The Weird are some brilliant revisionist Westerns. Got a soft spot for Seraphim Falls and Desperado as well.
  • 1 Once Upon A Time In The West
2 For A Few Dollars More
3 No Country For Old Men
4 The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
    5 Unforgiven

Hadn't thought of it as a Western but you're right, it is.
  • 1.Outlaw Josey Wales
    2, Unforgiven
3, The Assinanation of Jessie James
    4, Blazing Saddles
    5, Magnificent Seven

Hell or High Water was fantastic. "Boy, you'd think there were 10 of me"

I haven't seen as many of the classics but the first that come to mind for me are No Country for Old Men, True Grit, 3:10 to Yuma, The Hateful Eight, Tombstone and an outlier as more of a neo Western like No Country but one of my favourites would be Brokeback Mountain.
  • Tombstone should make every list just for that Val Kilmer performance
  • 1 Once Upon A Time In The West
2 For A Few Dollars More
3 No Country For Old Men
4 The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
    5 Unforgiven

The bad guy in this film is one scary f#£#er

  • Outlaw Josey Wales
    The Searchers
    She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
    Red River
    Shane
    Some great choices.
  • Dances with Wolves
    The Outlaw Josey Wales
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
    Jeremiah Johnson
    Unforgiven

But, I could probably rustle another 5 of their equal (apart from top 2 which are favourites amongst any genre)
  • Unforgiven
    Tombstone
    Butch Cassidy
    The assassination of Jessie James
    High Noon
  • Really enjoyed the recent tv westerns Yellowstone 1883 1923 and Lawman Bass Reeves

    Shane
    High Noon
    Unforgiven
Once Upon a Time in the West
    The Wild Bunch

But, like so many lists, it’s impossible to pick just five!
  • In no particular order:
Shane, but the book is better
    The Searchers
Rio Bravo (or the other one with essentially the same story, I can never remember which is which)
The Alamo, the John Wayne one, even though the subtext is Better Dead than Red rather than Better Tex than Mex
    Blazing Saddles

next five: the one with Elvis as half Native American, and four Clint spaghetti Westerns.
  • The Good, the bad and the ugly
Butch Cassidy and the sundance kid
Once upon a time in the west
    Hud
    McCabe and Mrs Miller
