  • For those who want more attacking football manager, I hear Ruud van Nistelrooy is looking for a job 😏
  • We need some stability not another manager sacked
Stable and crap and bad to watch ?
  • 100% in support of stability that what I’ve yearned for but I just can’t see a way that Jones is the one to commit to, he’s not growing or learning or improving or attempting to

  • I'm coming more and more to the conclusion that Jones N is a crank. His touchline antics, erratic interviews, odd team selections .. he's had a couple of good seasons elsewhere along with several bad ones. Like many many managers who build a career and reputation on the 'good' he is living on past results that went his way.
Mark Robins has been replaced by a Welshman at Coventry, I'd love him to take over at the Valley replacing another Welshman. However, I wonder if after seven turbulent years managing Coventry, he is looking for some r&r for a while and doesn't need another semi basket case managerial role.
To sum up, Jones is yet another bad appointment by whoever is holding the Charlton power and purse strings at the time
I agree, Jones is a crank but with Methven and Scott in charge we’re only going to attract the unhinged (Jones) or the below average (Appleton). It won’t improve until they go.

I don't want him sacked but I'm so disappointed. He has been set up for success. We did a lot of our business early, he had the whole summer to work with the squad and lay down how we were going to play, and within 10 games he's had to rip that whole plan up, and will likely have to rip up the latest system soon.

He has been allowed to spearhead recruitment and sell a popular player to fund people he wanted. He's been given a top-class sports scientist and I'm not sure I've seen such a fit team in a long time (you can tell by the way we dominate the last 10 mins of every game). And, according to former players, the training ground is better than it has ever been, including the prem days.

The guy has been set up for success but he's failing. Once again we're looking like our season might be over by Christmas, and we're going to have to use Jan to put things right that were obvious in July.
Agree totally with this. I'm just hoping that something will "click" with NJ and the players and we'll see an improvement in the second half of the season. If he goes I dread to think of who might replace him. We wont attract anyone with a genuine reputation so it'll either be a hopeful punt on a young relative unknown (think Des Buckingham) or a lower league journeyman (think Appleton). I still favour giving Jones more time over these scenarios.

It's obviously not great but that stat is slightly misleading because he came in after the January window to a team very low on confidence that hadn't won for months and was heading for relegation. He was working with players that he didn't sign and did a pretty reasonable job in getting us to safety with games to spare.

7 defeats in 30 isn't bad at all. The issue is we don't have any creative spark to turn those draws into wins.
This post sums it up. Make no mistake about it, we were drifting towards relegation last season before he took over. As things stand, we have moved from being relegation candidates to mid table candidates. It’s disappointing, but before we ditch Jones we ought to be pretty certain that any replacement is going to do better with the resources given to him.
I think the real disappointment is that he had moved us from performing like relegation candidates to performing like a mid table team by the end of last season. So this season should have seen further progression from there but it hasn’t, we aren’t any better now than we were at the end of last season

We have just got to give him time though, and hope he can get us to take another step forward from mid table into promotion material
  • I’m still pissed off about the time and money spent going to Exeter.
An awful low point of the weekend.
    I don’t mind a defeat. I’m used to them.
But it was just a pathetic display.

Having said that, changing manager feels like a disaster. I agree that 3 or 4 years is needed by anyone to revive a club dying on its arse.
  • Next few comments will be about getting sent off in a dud game in a rubbish cup.

  • I sat fairly close to the dugout tonight, he’s pretty hyper ain’t he?
Looked on edge all the time, kept glancing at the crowd as if looking for some sort of acknowledgement or checking reactions, very strange.

    Jones is moody and stubborn.

    I doubt he’s here next season and i bet he is touting his next club now;

Problem is the dross he leaves behind.

    Outlook is grim
And exactly with what currency is Jones touting ? It isn’t the roaring success he’s currently enjoying

I've said it before and I'll say it again, any new manager would have kept us up last season. We just needed a change from Appleton.
  • Bring. Back. Powell.
  • To me you got to question the players commitment.we can’t keep blaming manager after manager how can they play like that against Birmingham then not be able to string a pass together since.
Then injuries why are all our players injured season after season.
you used to have half the team present in every squad and 2/3 would play every game nowadays your lucky to see 1 player be present in every match.

Slightly controversial, but I don’t think the injury situation is as bad as is being made out. I think we’re probably missing ~3 players that would make the first team which, at this stage of the season, doesn’t feel horrific.

Feels like we always have injuries and we’ve been through worse.
  • He should be sacked just for not signing a creative midfielder which every person could see we needed
