  • If anyone would have a tip for how to watch Viktoria Plzen v Man U tonight, I'd be very much obliged. Behind the wrong kind of paywall in both countries 😡
  • Looks like a pretty boring match between Benfica vs Barcelona

Bet it had none of the drama at the Toughsheet Stadium

  • Mad ending
  • A slightly better Golfie than ours.
  • PSG v Man City - crazy start to second half city get 2 in about 3 minutes, then PSG do something similar.
  • PSG celebrating like they’ve won the champions league when all they’ve done is look slightly more likely to finish above 24th in a 36 team league. Whoopee-doo.
I’ve got to say that this new large league table format - although it leaves a lot of places up for grabs, which is good I guess - it essentially means teams like PSG and Man City can have an absolute stinker in the early matches, yet still sneak through. That’s not good.
Also, the way the presenters on TNT are talking about how all these games are “so, so important” is getting a bit old. At the end of the day, you’d expect City to beat Brugge in the last match to go through, then they’ll be amongst the favourites again. Doesn’t seem right.

Give me the old European Cup where you could get Nottingham Forest v Malmo in the final.
The football these days may be more entertaining, but fuck the big teams bullying everyone else out of it.
Or to look at it another way, with teams like Bayern, Madrid, City, PSG, Juventus, none of them in the top 8 surely shows this format is more interesting with less 'dead' games.

The previous format quite often had 2 decent teams and 2 shit teams and the groups were dead after 4-5 games. Next Wednesday with 18 games all kicking off at the same time will be a big night.

Also City won't really be 'going through', if they finish in 23rd/24th they'll have to face a play off against the side in 9/10th which could be someone like Bayern or Madrid.

No, I do get what you mean, but all of the teams you’ve mentioned have underperformed so far yet are still in with a realistic chance of winning the trophy. Yes there are less ‘dead’ games, but giving teams multiple chances to atone for bad performances/results means the same 10 or so teams will almost always make it through. Underdogs have to punch above their weight so many times just to have a sniff of the latter stages. There may be one or two surprises, but the tournament is so rigged towards the big boys it just seems wrong.

I know. It’s about money. It always is.
  • Celtic into the ko stages with a game to spare, oh Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger!

Hadn't seen that Barcola guy for PSG before, looks a real prospect, very quick.
  • As Alan Hansen once said " You can't win anything with kids!" In a league of 36, Young Boys are 36th. With 0 points!
  • I’m still a bit confused about PSGs last goal and nobody seems to be talking about it.
Before the ball landed at the “offside” player’s feet, the ball definitely hit both the PSG player and Gvardiol, right? What’s the reason that it’s not offside?
BBC seems to be saying something about a deliberate play or something. Is this a thing? I thought if it had come off their player, then it’d be offside and that would be that. Obviously not. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Whilst i do love the new format, this is probably the one negative of it. I don't specifically mean Celtic as it's not their fault but i mean in terms of the draw. You're all competing in one league, but you don't all face the same teams.

Celtic have faced: Bratislava, Dortmund, Atalanta, Leipzig, Club Brugge, Zagreb, Young Boys.
Atalanta are probably the only decent side there.

Compare that to PSG who have played: Girona, Arsenal, PSV, Atletico, Bayern, Salzburg, Man City.
They've had to play 4 of the best teams in Europe, and PSV are no mugs either.

And consider also that when the draw was made PSG were in pot 1, with Celtic in pot 3!

I'm enjoying the slight randomness of the draw. It's pretty unique really, I can't think of any other competition which works like this.

Next Wednesday, when all games take place at the same time, will be a cracking night.
  • Decent start by Villa against Celtic with two crackers by Rodgers in the 1st 4 minutes. 2-0
  • City still not winning yet, it'll get tenser and tenser there until they score!
  • So I subscribed to TNT for the month last week so I could watch the United v Rangers match so I’m watching the Goals Show Extra for the first time and it’s bloody brilliant. A bit like Red Zone (for NFL fans) but for Champions League football!!
  • What was the Arsenal keeper doing so far out of his Neto?

  • PSG have woken up in this competition now. From looking like they could go out, they're now looking like a team you wouldn't want to meet.
  • Decent start by Villa against Celtic with two crackers by Rodgers in the 1st 4 minutes. 2-0
Desmond now, two goals from Idah.
  • Fair play to Celtic, looked like they were going to get thumped after 10 minutes but they have come back brilliantly.
  • City losing  :D
  • Whoops... that wasnt part of the Man City script

Watkins had a clear chance to make it 3-0 but didn't put enough on the shot and it was cleared off the line.
2-2 and villa may rue that miss.

First Irish player to score two goals in the Champions League/European Cup for 40 years apparently.
  • Goal worthy of an equaliser that from Kovacic

Looked a bit dodge to me. Multiple players didn’t close him and the keeper didn’t even try and save it!
  • Some shocking keeping on show tonight.
