He’s well and truly crap. I cannot tell you what he offers. Hard work is not something a player should offer, it should be an expectation. If we are to go with Kanu up top, play Godden instead. At least they’ve shown they can work together.
Thankfully, Leaburn is back next week and with completing 60 minutes for the U21s, there is no reason why he can’t do the same for the first team and Chuks comes on for the final 20-30 minutes.
I don’t want to see Ahadme anywhere near the team again if we have everyone fit.
He gave far more yesterday than Kanu. Idiotic defending for his own goal, but won loads of headers up front.
Wing backs that couldn’t cross and a midfield that has no creative spark and was outplayed even by Albie Morgan was the issue.
Everything goes up to him which makes him look more involved. He can’t hold the ball, he’s not strong, not quick, got no presence, doesn’t run in behind, is useless with the ball at his feet, but he wins a couple of headers that flicks on to nobody. Kanu didn’t play well either but he’s done more in the time he’s played in all games this season than Ahadme.
There was no need for him to even go for the header for the own goal. If he had anything about him he would have used his body and let the ball go out of play.
People will say give him time etc. sure, but you don’t go from this useless to a decent player. He’s shown his clear lack of quality, that won’t suddenly change.
Apart from pace from what I saw he did all those things yesterday, especially in the first half. He put the defenders under pressure, he won headers where he looked for our players before and found them, he held the ball up and battled for the ball on the ground.
He’s not a threat in front of goal because there are no creative players. The wingbacks are abysmal going forward and everyone knows how poor the midfield has been for years now. There are no chances!
And until Leaburn is fit there is no one else that can play that role in Jones long ball style.
We clearly see things very differently and that’s absolutely fine.
For me, you just cannot excuse his piss poor performances and how he brings nothing to the team.
As has been said, he runs about a lot but that should always be the minimum.
It’s amazing how we always look much better when he’s not on the pitch, and that’s not always down to Aneke’s ability, just others offer something to the team. Even Jones up top offered us more in presence and that wasn’t just down to the gung-ho approach. We could’ve been gung-ho with Ahadme but it wouldn’t have been as effective.
I don’t think Jones will do it, but as Leaburn came through 60 minutes on Friday with no issues, and as long as he gets through full training this week, why can’t he start against Stevenage? He doesn’t need to build minutes by playing the odd 20 or so when he’s already got through an hour. I’d start Leaburn at Stevenage and I think we’ll immediately see a dramatic improvement to the team. I don’t think that’s putting pressure on Miles to perform, it’s that I don’t believe he can ever be as bas as Ahadme has been.
I know Gas hasn’t looked great in fact he’s looked pretty shite but if we are to see the best of him we have to give him a service from wide not have our centre backs lumping 40 yard balls up to him when he has no support. I’m not sure any league one strikers would look good with the service he’s receiving.

To be honest, if our tactics are just to lump the bloody football.. Any forward going to look shite!! For me our bigger issue is the way we are playing football, it is woeful!!!
I think that OG is a product of a player trying really hard to impress. He scored last week and there was a noticeable spring in his step at the start of this game. That ‘spring’ carried over into trying to be all things, including Alex Mitchell for the own goal.
I think there’s a player in there but this system and playing up front with an inexperienced striker who is really a winger hasn’t helped him imo.
Hopefully he gets to sit out and reflect when Leaburn returns, then comes back stronger later in the season when inevitable injuries and fatigue kick in for others.

Except when Chuks comes on. He gets the same long balls as Ahadme yet he causes panic, creates assists and scores. I know it’s hard to accept but at the moment Ahadme is a very ineffective striker. Perhaps NJ can develop and improve him but at the moment it’s looking like a very long term project.
I have been unsure about him from the off but he has improved. Even on Saturday he was better than he was initially. I agree that the goal was him trying too hard. I don't see him linking up though so he is pretty isolated. Probably not entirely his fault. Too early to write him off but looks like a sub to bring on at this stage and we probably have too many of those.

This is very true. I’d like to see us change from 352 to 433 permanently (as we did after we went 2-0 down).
433 with wingers (Campbell skinning full backs & getting numerous crosses into the box) is far more entertaining to watch than 352 hoofball (which tends to only deliver 1-2 goalscoring chances each week)
Hopefully Dixon will be given a chance on the right flank….or move Campbell to the right wing and play Small further forward on the left.

We have all seen enough football in our lifetimes to judge whether a player is good enough. I didn't take long to work out he's rubbish. And been saying so all season.
I hoped last week he had turned the tide but it was back to usual again Saturday. He's a luxury we can't afford to have.
I am hoping my words will come back to haunt me but they won't.

I am in almost full agreement, 3-5-2 isn't working. We need to get supply into the box and with Dixon being a right winger and Campbell a left winger, it makes sense to switch to a 4-3-3 until we can sort out the middle a bit better. I would expect Small to play better more advanced too as he can cross, but his defending hasn't been good enough lately.
Maybe 3-5-2 will work better when we start two proper strikers, but Ahadme and Campbell isn't that pairing.

Ahadme and Leaburn might be an interesting pairing.
I have seen people especially on Facebook ( say no more ) who seen to think we signed Ahadme as a replacement for May … really the answer simple no we paid 400,000 for Godden who is straight replacement for May .. Ahadme completely diff player then May and is unfair to judge him as so .. but to many of our fans add 2+ 2 and get 5 at the best of times

It doesn’t matter whether he was a replacement for somebody or was bought to play in a newly invented position that nobody in football has ever played before, he’s doggy do do

We basically took the Moneyball approach, sold May for around 700k, and then rather than try to find one Striker to score 20+ goals... We've tried to sign two for that can potentially hit that figure combined.
im not convinced he will turn out to be the signing we need, however in my opinion, bar the OG which others are as much at fault as he is, Saturday's first half was the best ive seen from him. Won headers, held the ball up well. Shame Kanu was a mile away
As others have said thought Saturday was his best performance, held it well, won most of his headers but again, similarly to Rotherham where the sitter undid all the good in his performance, the own goal and sequence before it, he had a chance to just leave a cross to go out for a goal kick but decided to head it back into play which then led to his own goal (which was mental in itself)
think he needs a settled partner to actually build a partnership with and have jones have our fullbacks cross the ball consistently, or we'll never see the best of him in this setup

I can’t see two of our strikers getting the combined total the Alfie May did last season . Not on the showings so far anyway

But that does not matter, Alfie asked for a transfer, was argumentative, did not say goodbye to the neighbours, left the house untidy.

What a lucky boy that some are blaming his partners for his dreadful performances . Maybe he’s the issue .
Indeed. Alfie May still managed to perform when playing alongside Tedic et al last season… Lyle Taylor was superb when partnered by Josh Parker… and Le tissier didn’t suddenly turn into George Tucudean just because he was playing alongside Iain Dowie.

The best thing about our team has been our defence:
Jones - played well in a back 3 at Cambridge, poor in a back 4 at Charlton and then well in a back 3 again this season
Gillesphey - promoted with Plymouth as part of a back 3, didn’t make the side when they switched to a 4 in the championship
Mitchell - just had a brilliant season at Lincoln playing in a back 3, and a good start to this season playing in one for us
And then in reserve, Dan Potts and REG are both back 3 specialists that have been promoted in sides playing in back 3s. And Zak Mitchell is also more suited to a 3
Changing from a back 3 really doesn’t make sense at all. We’ve recruited specifically for it, spent the whole of pre-season training it so that we are organised defensively. The 4-3-3 or 4-diamond-2 are options to switch to in-game, but the back 3 is what we’ve built for and will keep using

He's pawel abbot mark 2..
Signings like this + Kirk & Fraser etc are the reason why we can’t get out of league one (complete waste of our transfer budget)

What I do know is that we ain’t gonna get promoted with our current attacking threat. Something needs to change.

Hopefully it transforms him into a top L1 striker.
