  • I liked someone’s quote of Bambi.
  • he got lucky today, he fell over in our box and managed to set up their first chance after 90 seconds. He is so ineffective as a forward I thought I’d highlight he’s also crap defending set plays
  • Lucky if he scores five all season.  Woeful.
Not terrible in the air.  No pace  No strikers instinct.  His only goal was already going in.  Anybody thinking he'll suddenly become excellent will be sadly disappointed.
  • His Rugby tackle on the Bristol CB was pretty comical though. Completely mistimed his challenge.
  • Ahadme is up there with Akpo and Abbott

Had shown glimpses of what he could bring but offered nothing last night other than comedy value.

A victim of Jones' team building trying to turn him into Danny Hylton the younger, having to play a role he isnt used too alongside a strike partner who is also being asked to step outside his natural game in Campbell the winger.

The awkwardness and ineffectiveness shows. Pointless front paring.
  • Luckily we have a large budget so can afford to write off this investment and replace in January….

This is NJs biggest problem. He keeps trying to convert players instead of just playing them in their rightful positions.

Ahadme, Docherty & Campbell have all been asked to play in different roles this season (to where they have played the rest of their career) & unsurprisingly none of them have worked out.

As poor as he’s been he’s another who I think would look better if we tried to play more football - he scored 11 even with a period out injured for Cambridge last season. That’s 10 more than he’ll score for us if we keep playing this way.
Have you seen him when we’ve played the ball to his feet? He can’t play football, Cambridge weren’t exactly free flowing last season. All he can do is run and attempt to win headers
I’ve looked out for it in recent games and he’s had moments when he’s held up the ball and laid it off well. It doesn’t get noticed because we inevitably lose the ball soon after.

Funnily enough Leaburn and Aneke have always looked better when we try to play football too.

None of them are going to dominate L1 CBs when the ball is constantly pumped in their vague direction.

Ipswich didn’t sign him off performances like this and neither did we.
He didn't do this once all match this eve. It's total madness that a player doing the absolute bare minumum a few times over the course of 9 matches gets him praise.
What I’m meaning is although he’s clearly been one of our worse players this season our style isn’t helping.

@supaclive made a point on the post match thread that ties in with this - an analyst on a podcast said a centre forward who scores goals should be having 3-5 shots a game. Our strikers get scraps spread out over several games.

Now Ahadme is part of the reason we don’t create enough, but the biggest reason for me is the style. We try to create from long balls and opposition mistakes. Not by being brave and creative in possession, running at the opposition or picking out good passes and crosses. We don’t need to go full Garner tippy tappy but we’re going more direct than we need to with this squad.

We don’t come across as having been coached in passing and movement other than knock it into the channel and chase it, or battle for a second ball.

The criticism of Ahadme is on his all round play, he’s not missing hatfuls of chances because we don’t create enough.

This is true. We don’t really know if he’s a good finisher or not!
  • So poor again. A mate of mine checked and he won 1 out of 10 aerial duals. For someone who was signed for pretty much that purpose alone, not good enough.

I don't like hearing him getting pelters, end of the day, he's on a 4 year contract, we need to pray he can turn it around. Getting on his back will probably just make it worse.

After this though, we need to blacklist Ipswich, cause we seem to be cursed when making signings from them.
  • What are his blinkers for?

His stats across the board are poor yesterday, 2/10 aerial duels (according to Fotmob), 11 touches of the ball, 1 in the box, 2/4 accurate passes and 0 shots.

Another in a long long list of players that look good then come to Charlton and look like they've never played football before.

Luke Berry is another, only at Charlton can you get a player who played 17 times in the PREMIER LEAGUE last season, put a red shirt on and look awful in league one.

This club is broken/cursed at its core.

Is he?  Cambridge fans I read said they wouldn't miss him and they couldn't believe we were spending money on him.
In isolation, 11 goals for a poor Cambridge team looked good but I believe he scored just 7 in open play all season. All from crosses, none more than about 5 yards out.  It wasn't prolific and those stats are actually pretty poor, especially when you think one of those in open play was against our pathetic defense.
Wouldn't surprise me to see Mitchell get 7 for us this season for example.
He wasn't good enough and still isn't good enough.  He has time on his side but I generally don't see anything to his game that is stand out.
He looks a really poor acquisition so far. Hopefully he turns it around, I don't expect it.  4.5 years! Feck me.
Genuine question, has he even had 1 shot on target in a Charlton shirt?

He’s technically no where near the level of Leaburn or Aneke. We need to play the ball to feet more 100%, but Ahadme just needs to be left out of the side

A good job Ahadme's four year contract will give him time to settle in.
  • Someone must've seen something about him?
But who was it and when did they see it?
As far as I can see, he's always been a run of the mill nothing special kind of chap.
When was the light bulb moment??

As bad as he's been I'm not sure what more he can do last night. He spent the entire night hoping to get on the end of Gillesphey's mishit long balls and he had next to no service in any decent position. It then gets excerbated as when he gets taken off for Aneke in games, we generally need a goal and we attack a bit more.

If Jones is going to play him then play him in a system where we actually cross the ball into the box.
  • It won't happen for a while but I think if he was coming on for 30 mins at the end of the game it would look different, he'd have balls in the box to attack

  • He did two good things yesterday. Once he harried the defender by their end and forced him into making a mistake which earned us a corner. The other thing was he won a header and flicked it on but TC ran across to try and win it as well instead of reading where the flick on would go, which was into a decent bit of space. He also would have most likely put that header in from Anderson's cross if Jones hadn't come flying across him but we'll never know. Two good things isn't enough, he needs to be harrying defenders far more than he does across a game. He gives the impression sometimes of being someone who would be a nightmare to play against because he's always chasing and limiting the time defenders have, which he did against Bolton to good effect, but he just isn't doing it anymore and he's not offered enough else yet. The one area where I do feel a bit bad for him is he must look at the chances Mitchell and Godden got and wonder why we can't do that any other time in a game. He gets so few crosses across the face of goal to try and connect with, we only really start bothering in the last ten and he's long since been subbed by then.

For a target man, he is so poor at using his body. As soon as Leaburn and Chuks came on, the long balls suddenly were more effective because they block the CB off and make it awkward. Ahadme frequently lets the CB come around him, and is so off balance he doesn't even challenge.

I understand we're not creating a lot of chances but did we really sign a Bonne-style striker who offers nothing unless you're putting them on a plate?
  • Looked good in his promotional vids, surely a lesson that reality all too often does not match up to the promise in expensive advertising

Everyone looks good in their promotional vids. We would have had the same videos with Makienok, Reza, Ronnie the Gunslinger etc too.
