  • I'd still fancy Liverpool to go through, but that's a great result for Spurs just a couple of weeks after conceding 6 to them. Looked to me as though Ange "i'll never change, it's who we are mate" actually did change his tactics for once, the full backs didn't seem to invert as much and as a team they sat back and dug in a bit, rather than continuing to pour forward.

I'm not so sure.  I think it was more the fact that Liverpool has us under the pump for a large proportion of the second half.

Even at 1-0, in injury time, Dragusin the CB ended up being the most advanced man forward.

A couple of questions come to mind though...

    1) Why cant we defend like that every week?!  I gues it helps that the new keeper is a massive upgrade on Forster.

    2) Why was Conte and Ange so quick to write off Djed Spence?!  Granted his attitude was a problem and he needed a mighty kick up the backside but he finally looks like the excellent full back we thought we'd bought a couple of seasons ago.

Many positives to take from last night after a really testing couple of months.

BTW, Bentancur is ok apparently, nothing serious according to his instsgram post.

Looking forward to the next two nights games.

Got a feeling Arsenal will beat Newcastle tonight, 2-4.
Then Liverpool will beat Spurs by 4 or 5 tomorrow night, sadly.

Gutted van der Venn hasn't made the squad, he may have made the difference.

Yeah he'd have kept it down to 3 or 4.

cant deny I think we'd still lose but it would be much closer...

Pretty good 1st 21 mins of the Toon game.  Even if Spurs did somehow win tomorrow, I think they'd get battered by Arsenal or Newcastle in the final.

The current version of Timo Werner makes them both look world class

Mostly likely Newcastle and they would only need a draw tomorrow.

How can anyone take Arsenal seriously as contenders for anything. That second goal is absolutely hilarious.

Absolutely love seeing those tossers lose. Worst fan base on social media, they have to be.

Arsenal have played Newcastle this season three times, have lost all three and failed to score in any of those games. In fact, Newcastle have been responsible for three of Arsenal's five defeats in all competitions.

Could it be that Arsenal beat Man City 5-1 just a few days ago ! I don't expect them to catch Liverpool but Arteta wanted a central striker to replace Jesus and nothing happened in the window.

Chris waddle and other pundits thought Arsenal might boss this game but the 3 training sessions when Eddie Howe wanted Burns, Schar and Botman to push up and pressure the Arsenal midfielders which was a surprise.
Man marking was great to see and Rice got really frustrated by Schar invading his space !

It was a supreme tactical plan by Howe and Tindall to consolidate on the 2-0 lead from the away leg.

    He’s totally unlikable isn’t he?

He tore Saliba apart and made him look like a Championship level defender.

Arsenal and possibly Liverpool will be in the market for a central striker this summer. If i'm the owner of those clubs i'm blowing my entire summer budget on Isak. Offer 130m, 140m, 150m, just get him in. Other strikers around will be far cheaper, Osimhen, Gyokeres, Sesko etc but with Isak you know he is already proven at this level and won't need time to adjust.

I would add Man U to the list but i think they have so much to sort out with their team, that they wouldn't spend that on 1 player. Plus they won't be in the Champions league.

Should Newcastle face Liverpool in the final then they will have had probably the hardest draw in attempting to win the League Cup ever - they will have played in the competition all bar City of the top seven in the PL.

I want Spurs to reach the final so either the Geordies or Spurs win a trophy.

Unfortunately I can't see Liverpool not scoring at least 3 goals.

I will go 3-1 but hope I'm wrong.

I have no great love for Spurs.
But other than Millwall and palace it's Liverpool I hate the most.
Almost feel dirty saying it but
    Come on Spurs

I'd like that, as it would make a really good final between 2 teams DESPERATE for the trophy, which won't be the case for Liverpool.

Basically the team that relegated Charlton (from the Premier League)
vs the team we had the deadrubber against
  • Dreadful first half from Spurs, Ange has to change something. They're losing possession far too easily and getting run all over the place.
