  • Gordon is the footballing equivalent of a duracell bunny but a bit faster
  • Arteta has lost the plot a bit here. 2 goals down at home and he's got Sterling on the bench but he's moved Havertz out to the right wing who i can't remember ever playing there. You might as well cancel his loan if you won't play him in this situation.

2 of his 3 subs have been a like for like defensive midfielder and a left back.
  • Also think this might come back to bite Arsenal soon. They've got a few injuries, are having to go full strength for 90 minutes here, they've got Man U in the cup at the weekend so will need to be full strength again, then 2 tough home PL games and then CL games. No real chance to rest anyone so they're going to be knackered by February.
  • That Man U game suddenly starts looking very tough. No chance to rest players, a slight loss in form and confidence and opponents who are at their best against the big teams
  • In a world when defenders are picked for their passing and attacking skills, it's refreshing to see an old fashioned defensive rearguard display.
  • Why is Arteta allowed to continuously wander right up to the touchline, why doesn’t the ref, 4th official do something.

Can’t stand the bloke, he is a complete …..
yep, this with knobs on.  He gets away with murder.  Leaving the technical area without permission of the referee is a yellow card offence yet he has never been pulled up on it.

Agreed. Newcastle getting Botman back is very timely for them after missing the entire season so far.

    Talking Lego Head...

Mwahahahahahahahaha, its the balls fault they lost, of course it is!
He's got a point. Surely it's not fair that Newcastle were allowed to shoot with a normal football but the Arsenal players could only use one of those flyaway balls we had when we were kids?

Arsenal always get treated so unfairly ........

Conveniently ignoring the fact they've already come through 3 rounds scoring 11 goals to get to this stage.
  • 'It's tricky, they fly a lot' - Arteta on EFL Cup balls

Tbf that Birmingham player was quite lucky in the first round. Shame we didn't pick up on that sooner.
  • Spurs new 12.5m goalkeeper is thrown straight in for his debut tonight. They're as full strength as can be given their injuries and suspensions.

Liverpool make changes, Trent, Robertson, Konate and Diaz all benched.
  • Spurs are absolutely cursed with injuries. Lengthy stoppage as Bentancur goes down injured and is then stretchered off. Looked really bad from the way he fell/landed.
  • It was weird the way he went down - it was almost like his legs gave way under him.

Thats horrible... looks like a puppet who has had his strings cut

Especially the way the legs continue to move whilst he's laying there.

How long did it take to get noticed by the referee? - It looks strange from the off, and the referee has a clear view, but doesnt seemingly do anything about it whilst the clip finishes
  • Hardly any time at all. It was about 10 seconds from the corner coming in to the ball going out for another corner. One of his team mates came charging in from the right wing almost immediately to check on him, Dragusin and others followed suit and Allison signaled to the bench there was a problem. The ref then went over, and the physios came charging on within seconds.

  • How did Spurs miss that!!

    P.S. Thanks Ali
  • Are refs only miked up in the Carabao cup, or have they been in the Prem and I've just not noticed?
  • Great strength from Solanke in the build up to that goal.
  • First one wasn't a yellow but cannot for the life of me work out how Bergvall didn't get a second yellow just before that goal

Just this round of the League Cup (not sure if the Final is as well) as a trial
  • Many positives for Spurs tonight and not just the 1-0 win which may not be enough in a month's time on 6/2/25 but they go there ahead.
Top Debut by 21 year old keeper Kinsky.
18 year old stand in CB Gray had a strong performance and 18 year old road runner Lucas Bergvall scored the winner despite getting a yellow card which was slightly harsh and a 2nd foul should've been a yellow card but got away with it.

Spurs at last had some luck, as earlier Solanke had a well taken finish ruled off for offside when it was in line other than a cigarette paper !

Spurs yet again showed fantastic spirit.
  • Really hope Spurs and Newcastle finish the job in the second legs, would be good to see two teams going for a first trophy in ages, would be a nice change to the usual Liverpool, City, Chelsea etc.
Agreed, 2 clubs DESPERATE to win the cup would really make for a really interesting final, and a real pressure occasion, as the losers would be devastated.

The article says  both legs though if there is no problem with it then (I assume) it will be implemented in the final (as a final test).
