  • Orient run continues. 15 points from last 5 games. 23 points from last 10 games (same as Birmingham and Wrexham).
Not to diminish their achievements or anything as you can only beat what's put in front of you but they have literally played the entire bottom 5 in their last 6 games I think most teams in the top half would have a similar record with that run of games (*probably not us though!!)

They did do Barnsley 4-0 away in that 1 other game to be fair.

Going through a period in League 1 when the bottom are really struggling. Think it’s been 5 seasons or so since the points to stay up was close to 50 points. Can’t see any of the bottom 4 getting close to the points needed to be competitive.

Assuming that in turn will increase the points needed for top 2, top 6 etc.

Captained by young Darren Pratley yesterday, who's started 4 of the last 6 games.
  • Automatic promotion has opened up a bit tonight as Wycombe were beaten at home 1-0 by Huddersfield. Just 1 win in 4 for them now.

Huddersfield now just 4 points behind them with a game in a hand.
  • Good win for Huddersfield but not really relevant for us as we aren't catching the top 4. We could still snatch 5th or 6th however.
  • Thought they would’ve won with Sonny Bradley playing…

If Kone and their other CB leave it will be intesting to see if Wycombe drop away badly or whether they can bring in adequate replacements.

It's a mini league between 7 of us for two spots. I've not included Lincoln as I think they're having a bit of an off season and don't score enough.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Orient finish 5th the form they're in, it's ridiculous.

As long as we get 6th, I don't care as you say, 4th well out of our grasp I'd say. I think this will go right down to the final two games.

Looking at the table tonight I noticed that there is only 1 team in the top half of the table that have scored fewer goals than us. However, there are only 3 teams that have conceded fewer goals than us, and they are all in the top 4.

We will fail to get promoted this season due to one thing.......the lack of goals.
  • Just read Hudders are unbeaten in 15 games, will they still be unbeaten when we play them on 29 March?

But your stats don't back that up golife. The 3 teams conceding less goals are above us in the league. Anyway, from what I can see we have the lowest goals scored in the top half anyway with 27, Lincoln in 12th have scored 28. We do need to score more goals no doubt but the fact that the 3 teams with the least conceded goals are sitting 1st, 3rd & 4th backs up that the foundation of a good side is the defensive shape and structure

I still think a Championship team are going to take a risk on Bloomfield as manager as well. Potentially Luton?

I think they will fall away, won't get automatic promotion and might even end up in a battle to get top 6.

Wheels are already starting to come off, a couple of their loans have gone back and they've got 1 win in 4 which was only thanks to a 94th minute penalty

Or because we concede too many? Scoring goals doesn't count for much if the opposition outscore you.

You do seem to struggle with how football works.
  • Great win for Shrewsbury over Wrexham tonight
  • We are so getting Ainsworth’d next weekend.
1-0 defeat where we have about 80% possession
  • Love seeing McClean get wound up

    Oh the irony.....

You state " scoring goals doesn't count for much if the opposition outscored you"

So......why dont we just score more goals than the opposition. Like the top 4 are doing.

I don't think it's me who struggles with how football works.

But but but.....Shrewsbury conceded a goal. Surely that means they shouldn't have won 🤔.

I think it's pretty clear that you need a combination of both a good attack and decent defence. There's no point scoring lots of goals if you also concede a lot as well. If a team leaks goals and needs to score 3 every week just to win a game then they probably aren't going to win many. But whilst you need a combination of both, it is generally a good defence that is the foundation of successful teams.

Look at Spurs, they're the second highest scorers in the Premier league, but they're sat in 14th because they can't keep a clean sheet. 12 teams have scored more than Forest, but they are 3rd because they have a solid defence that enables them to nick games. They've kept 9 clean sheets and won 5 games 1-0. Burnley don't score many but they have an amazing defence that has kept 17 clean sheets which means invariably if they score they will win.

There will occasionally be exceptions (Stevenage are a perfect example) of teams with a good defence who are not up the top, but generally you will find the best defences are teams in the top 3 of a league. However it's far more common to see high scoring sides (Spurs, Norwich, Middlesbrough, Peterborough, Notts County, Chesterfield) not at the top.

As far as I understand it if you don't concede a goal you can't lose a game and if you score more than the opposition you win. Having a solid defence is a key part of football.

Presumably we can agree on this?
