To me that sounds like they’ve run out of the initial targets they agreed they’d be happy with (at this stage) and waiting until someone better becomes available later in the window.
Maybe a Jed Steer / Declan Rudd type loan late in the window?
Is it really worrying? We currently have three goalkeepers and whilst an upgrade would be most welcome, there really isn’t any urgency. Plenty of good goalkeepers will also become available for loans etc as squads get finalised. I would much prefer we concentrate on getting an attacking midfielder.
If we start the season without a new top quality #1 then I'll be massively disappointed. It will cost us. That and the CBs was the clearest area in need of improvement.
What about creativity? Who is going to actually create anything for the strikers we are signing?
This is my big concern - we relied heavily on CBT last season not just for direct goal assists but also opening up space for others as the opposition was forced to double up on him as he was such a potential threat - whilst Campbell shows promise, we are going to rely very heavily on our wing backs for crosses and I think we really need a creative central midfielder and a couple of dead ball specialists as we have no real threat from corners and free kicks.
Could Dr Will Abbott prove to be the best signing for our forward line? If he works magic and gets Miles and Chuks more available then I think we’ll be ok up top
A fully fit Chuks is not only our best striker, but the best striker in the league. You talk about players coming back from injury being a new signing, but getting Chuks available for the majority of the season would be the best signing of the season.
BIG IF. Chuks and Miles together would be terrifying for most defences at this level.
If the option is Joe Lumley or to wait id rather wait. Have a good mate who's a Boro fan so saw them play a couple of times when he was there and was dogshit in the couple of games I saw, but he did go on to receive Reading player of the year the season after so shows how much I know!
Think I’d rather sign no one than sign Lumley. Don’t rate him at all
Interesting to see people's responses to the projected Ahadme fee. Lots of concern that £1m is too high but surely that should also put to bed some posters' fears that the owners aren't willing to pay what they need to? At the very least it should tell people that Nathan Jones is being properly backed by these owners to a pretty extensive degree, which can only be a good thing
But then what would people have to moan about 😀
I wouldn’t worry about that, this is Charlton and to keep us happy they never fail to give us something to moan about.
More like our fans always find something to moan about.

"Spend the money"
"No not on him!"
No one has said that on this occasion? So the quotations are quite ironic.
There is just a discussion over the price tag as it is a lot for a player who hasn't scored for the club that has just sold him for over 3x what they bought him for, potentially.
I imagine most posters on here are happy the club have spent a fee, and actually want to see what's best for Charlton, especially seeing as it isn't any of our money.
You're right, my sincere apologies as those are not direct quotes from anyone, however there are multiple comments across a multitude of threads on here that allude to the same thing, moaning about a lack of investment and financial firepower, and a general feeling that the current owners aren't willing to spend anything, then when we're rumoured to be spending money on a player, many people then complaining that the fee is too high, the player in question is unfit or past their prime or don't have a good enough scoring record, and therefore paint a doom and gloom picture no matter what the club do
I am sensing some sarcasm haha.
That does happen on here, and tbh when it does, it's warranted a lot of the time. There's no denying we have had a few bad transfer windows for the most part, so fans have become skeptical.
This time it seems a bit different. Jones seems to be building a very big, physical side. Ahadme, Edwards and Mitchell are all big lads who will enjoy the physical side. There is a clear direction it seems and it is nice to see. Whether or not it works is another matter.
I find people who are skeptical credit the club where it's due, I know I certainly do and am quite looking forward to seeing Ahadme play for us based on his reviews.
In terms of an attacking midfielder/10, I'd love us to look at Ethan Chislett. Was really impressed by him with Port Vale last season. Seemed fairly quick, covered a number of positions, took his goal at the Valley very well and scored a pen against us at their place.
43 apps last season notching up 9 goals and 7 assists. Will be surprised if Port Vale keep him.
It will be nice to have someone decent with their head in and around the box but I just hope we have players that can deliver the quality passes needed.
Our crossing, corners and set piece delivery just hasn’t been good enough for a number of years.

Don't think many sides will fancy marking Ahadme and Leaburn as a front pair. Just hope we've got the delivery from wide areas to take advantage of it.

Like you said, a big if.
