Charlton Athletic have rejected a bid from Huddersfield Town for League One’s Golden Boot winner Alfie May.
The South London Press understands that the Terriers are set to return with an improved offer for the striker, who scored 23 League One goals last season.
Losing our best 2 players in a single transfer window is crap no matter how you spin it.
I don’t see Mitchell being released by Millwall, as in ‘if he is any good Millwall would keep him’ as any reason not to be very hopeful. I think Mitchell came through the ranks and maybe played a minor cup game for them. I suspect his progress at Millwall may have been slowed considerably because of the strength they already had in the area he played. I am hopeful this might be a Michael Turner (remember him?) kind of signing for us. He was a player who eventually moved on, not because he wasn’t a good player, but because at the time we thought we had better and couldn’t see a place opening up for him. Michael Turner went on to have an excellent career.

How many times has he played for the scum this Mitchell fella ? My scum mates never heard of him
Hasn't made his debut , been on loan for the past 3 years at Bromley,St Johnstone,Orient and Lincoln.
Probably says a lot about the standard of the CBs they have had ahead of him.
Or the standard of Mitchell himself. Don't forget Millwall were in a relegation battle just like us last season so their CB's couldn't have been that hot.
If promotion rivals have got £1m to spend on a single player then maybe we should be taking that £1m off them to have any chance of building a squad that can compete.

what a player
Don't forget what all those with West Ham mates said about Coventry & what a class act he was.
Nothing wrong with Coventry that a couple of decent CB's couldn't improve, last season the midfield was overrun far too easily because the defence was non existant at times...🙄
It all boils down to whether Jones gets what he wants and manages to put together a team that can achieve something. What is noticeable is over the past few years we've signed players just because they'd done well somewhere else or had good stats but didn't necessarily suit how we were playing. As a result we end up relying on the transfers that work out well for that system to carry more than their share because the team overall doesn't work. We were kept alive by Alfie last season, along with contributions from CBT in the first part of the season. The year before that we were totally reliant on JRS to drag us through games and make relegation only a brief concern. Before that we desperately needed Stockley under Jackson, before that we were totally reliant on Aneke (and still are when things aren't going well). The last time we had good defenders, a coherent midfield and a good striker we went up. Under Powell in 11/12 we managed to set a points record despite our 20 goal striker going on a 12 match goalless streak because the setup was so good.
Whether we keep May or not, I am looking forward to having a squad that the manager builds based on an overall profile that he needs rather than just the 'that one did goals. That one did tackles. Sign them up' technique we usually go for

what a player
He's almost 31, his value is at an all time high and the manager is not 100% keen on him.
Only 12 months left on his contract as well (although we do have the option to extend that I believe)
