Three years ago, the pitch was dug up by foxes, how times have changed now they use fellas with tractors. Didnt realise what I was walking into but wouldn’t change what I did.
One thing that is noticebale in League One is the high number of decent pitches. There are still some challenging ones but it is to the credit of clubs who make the effort in this area.

Agreed.
Our pitch had become one of those in the middle of the League One pitch table. Lots of much better ones out there and a few that weren't as good.
The new pitch will take us to the top of the table and will make the viewing so much better.
Last season, pre Fleetwood away, Nathan Jones predicted their pitch would be ‘rustic’, which I thought was a charming choice of a word. Nathan Jones seems to be exercised about the importance of the condition of a pitch. Maybe that is why the Valley is being refurbished.

pot of available cash and the Women's team needing a WSL ready home ground were the drivers coming together at the right time

Sandgaard wanted to do the same but the length of the lease, 13 years, on the Valley, was less than the 20 years required by the FA to get the £750k grant.
That requirement was dropped to 10 years so as long as the Women's team play at the Valley for a decade it's free money. For an additional £400 to 500k we get an upgraded pitch and possibly lower maintenance costs over the next few years.
Jones also wanting a better pitch would also have been a factor but this would have been on the cards anyway IMHO.

To be honest, a crap pitch is a leveller. Especially when a team sets up to play according to their poor home pitch.

Quite.
I assume the pitch is of such superior quality it can support twice the volume of usage and still be better. Technology is a good thing in areas you don’t immediately think of.

Yes, our pitch helped bring a few of our opponents down to our level last season

Are those the original lower Covered End seats from 1992, as they've kept their colour so much better than the ones in the West Stand and Upper CE, despite getting plenty of sun on them!

one of the first things Roland did was change them.

Optical illusion when you look at the same Upper CE seats in the other photo...🤔

The car park is now clear of sand and soil.
