  • Looking good now
I was going to say in the match thread yesterday how nice the stadium and pitch were looking on TV.
  • Was it just me or were the lines brighter or had been re-painted yesterday?

Been watching a lot off the reruns of "The Big Match Revisited" - firstly what a commentator Brian Moore was. And then those old pitches! Quagmires !! - shows you how far they have come. Think The Valley pitch for the time of year is amazing.

    Or the new floodlights?

Interesting that Frank Lampard commented on how difficult our pitch was to play on. Looked fine on TV.

don't think he meant pitch - think he meant stadium generally as in tough place to come to type thing

I thought he meant the pitch itself to be fair.

Posted this on the other thread, more appropriate on here:
Sorry to go over old ground, but noticed Lampards comment about the pitch and then sort of stopped, any ideas what that was about? Always see it as a good sign when an opposing manager finds it difficult to give any credit, he managed to squeeze out, we were good at what we do which always feels like a back handed comment to me. I have enjoyed how we’ve got under other clubs skins at times though, shows we are doing some things right😂

i'd be amazed if he could use the quality of the pitch as a factor - think its been great this season

They certainly seem to have got over the teething problems from last season

It did look on the TV like it had a few bare / roughed up patches around the JS end. I assumed it was prep work ahead of laying the beach to greet Chelsea.

On TV it looked dry and bobbly. I think Lampard was definitely referring to the state of the pitch.

It didn’t seem to get watered before kick off at half time

I have been told - by someone who gets to stroll around on it - that the pitch is rock hard. And that the watering makes little difference. The same person suggested that the Liverpool pitch has the same problem.

I assume the pitch will be covered pretty much permanently for the next week ahead of Chelsea given the forecast temperatures.

The pitch is considetably better than this time last season but it's not in A1 condition. I wasn't surprised to hear Lampard mention it.

I’d get some sand on it for them. See how they like it.

They were mowing the pitch with fancy new mowers about 30 odd mins after the game finished on the 1st
